Can someone from K2 dev team tell us when the K2 is going to work with recently released Joomla 1.6 RC1

 

I am about to transfer content from my Wordpress blog to Joomla + K2 and I would love to know if new the K2 is just around the corner or not.

That will help me greatly in developement process. Maybe there will be easy upgrade option, if so I can start work with 1.5 and migrate to 1.6 once K2 is ready for it.

 

I am a big fan of K2. All my projects are based on that extension as it is probably best from what is on offer in CCK for Joomla right now.

@ Linda I agree these options would be great. Also is there a way to change search parameters on the search page? One of the check boxes is labeled K2 items. No one will understand what that means, so I would like to change that to say search directory only or something along those lines. I'll take a look at the php file, but if anyone has a suggestion, I'm all eyes..:-) I do hope there will be an upgrade on the search tool soon though. It would also be nice if we get ad search parameters on the back end as well other than tags. I would like users to be able to search directory advertisers by age, height, weight, gender etc...

The search module definitely needs some upgrade. This is my wish-list:

To be able to actually search the tags, today it's not working.

To be able to search selected categories

Advanced search

To search with boolean and to search like *something

I am using K2 articles to hold video data for a video library.

 

I also use bitsontherun.com's video hosting, and they have a Joomla plugin to embed their videos in content.

 

This was working fine until I recently upgraded the plugin, and now K2 category listings are blank - clearly there are some issues with the plugin. I'm trying to get support from BOTR but no joy yet.

 

Wondered is anyone else had found a similar issue and solved it?

I finally figured out the problem. I had upgraded my system to Mootools 1.2 but was still running K2 V2.3. After upgrading to K2 V2.4.1 the problem was fixed.

if u see my kidzme.com store, there is 2 links in the main comp area desember 2010 and september 2010 - this item links appeared today, when I upgraded the K2 to last version, and I also try out some different menu item links (K2 latest ) I need and want to remove that links, Im looking all over menu items, variables etc etc, but I cant find it. please assist me.brgds Thomas

If you take a look at your phpmyadmin you will find that k2 has a table jos_k2_extrafieldsgroups and jos-K2_extrafields. This is where the actual definiition of the xtra fields are stored.
Please backup your site before upgrading. I recommend akeeba backup Pro which is paid component.
Most of the time upgrading K2 will effectively "toast" any changes you have made to the core of the component (as it will if you upgrade any other Joomla component that you have modified), so if youve hacked it, upgrading can be painfull. Making all your changes as overrides is the best way. See Here. Plugins are another way to make changes that will withstand upgrades, see Here.
There is a one line upgrade instruction in this blog post .
All of the above comes from extensive reading, and searching over time.
As you next discussion asks, are there paid solutions. Yes, Many extensions exist for k2 on the joomla extension directory, and there are many dev's that will help you with k2. IMHO, If i get a "paid" extension, it comes with some sort of support, but usually doenst do exactly what i want and has to be changed, K2 and others are free, and you just get right to the changing part. JOOblogs now update with new layout. I have also upgraded all 3rd ext to latest version. What' am i using ?

Please take care, you are modifying a core file. Consider that when you upgrade k2, this will need to be updated.

One thing I notice on comment submission is that it does not refresh the page, instead, the page refresh just shows a static white page.
This would lead me to think you have a JS conflict.
I am also curious to know which version of K2 is being used by you all as I cant reproduce this on 2.4.1 when logged in.

Okay, found this so far:
The user should get an K2 id number;
The user should get added to a group;
The user could get his avatar copied from cb to k2;

All this is in the table jos_k2_users . Users are identified by their userID (jos_users).

CB Queries lets me perform an query on, e.g., first login. At first login, users are listed in the k2 users table, without the idnumber and the groupnumber.
So: BeforeFirstLogin I should
* select the current userID, compare it to jos_k2_users;
* find out the latest k2 id, add 1 and assign it to the userID;
* assign the userID to group 3 (because it has the lowest K2-rights and if an upgrade is needed I'll do it manually);
How do I put this in a MYSQL-query?

1. How do i control the potential end screen / 'thankyou' aspect of someone submitting stuff ?
2. How do I customise the form display for front end submissions

I have just looked at 2.
UNortunately thre is no template overide for form display for submissions front end and my quick hack attempts to add one produced no result.

IF you follow the logic of 2 above then you can get to a solution.
In components/com_k2/views/item/tmpl/form.php is where the front end submission is rendered.

So a potential solution for a project I have concerns the extrafields - the people submitting to this site we're building dont knwo what extrafields mean. They are coming to submit specific data and thats what I want to give them - a custom form that just has what they need to see. Likewise for preventing massive lists of categories which have nothing to do with them you can adjust the category output and posibly hardcode the category id of the logged in user. To do this you need to get the logged in user id, look up their permissions and grab the category id form the parameter field. Its a lot of work really for something that should be so user friendly to the submitter. What we really need is another template view for forms and more global parameters to read into the templates.

I will definitely be hardocoding a category id for specific user groups so will share this back once done. It will be in the next two weeks AND it will break your upgrade path ;-)

I set up a module on the homepage that displays the introtext of a new article. Every day there's a new article, and have been scheduling them to start publishing at 8am the day they "premiere" so to speak. However, I've been having trouble getting them to publish correctly. Setting the order in the category does not work, and using "date ascending" doesn't reliably work either. Previously I suspected it was a version issue, but I've upgraded both Joomla! and K2 without any effect. Also, since upgrading, items in K2 don't refresh/apply changes as soon as they're made. (Does K2 have its own cache, and where is it?)This is getting really annoying because I've still got the whole month of November to deal with this issue...

I no longer have the issue with the uploading of zip archives and all displays as it should.

I am using the latest version of the SIG plugin as of todays date.

I had this same problem. When uploading to the gallery, the mime type is checked and it appears that it was checking the path for the mime type and not the name of the file. There are several checks for mime type prior to the code I edited below, and even some after. It keeps trying different ones until it gets a hit. Unfortunately until I fixed the code, it was trying to call it a text file and not a zip file. Anyway, this is what I did:

File: \administrator\components\com_k2\lib\class.upload.php
Line: ~2231
Change...
$this->file_src_mime = mime_content_type($this->file_src_pathname);
...to...
$this->file_src_mime = mime_content_type($this->file_src_name);

There was no need for my hosting company to get involved.
My directories are back to 755 and working fine.
I have Mootols upgrade plug in working take sit to version 1.4
