The site.com/item-name and site.com/id-item-name pattern can only be accessed with three ways.

a) By enabling K2's advanced SEF from K2's params
b) By using an SEO extension (which you are using to the best of my knowledge)
c) By mapping the K2 item into a menu item.

If you have not done either a nor c then, you need to check the extension you are using for such a setting.

Finally if your extension handles properly canonical tags (eg: all these links point to the same URL), then you can safely disregard this issue.

To be honest I think this is a 'hack' . K2 Content did not have this functionality in an 'official' package. I have seen implementation like this but they where all additions to the standard module.

In your position I would backup the module in order not to lose this functionality.

Its understandable y'all are going through rebranding with the launch of v3 and a lot goes into that so the process takes time.

Right now I am feeling very disappointed with delays as I keep pushing my projects back (something I probably should be doing) in order to take advantage of the new k2 (i just feel its going to be worth waiting).... & most likely I am not the only one doing this.

V3 was presented in Joomla Day Brazil... How about just posting a V3 download link?... it would make a lot of us happy!

I think it would be fair to at least provide us with a link to k2 v3 standard (even if marked as RC), so we can get going on our projects with that version...

Thanks for getting back to me. On the dev site I'm working on, I am also running K2 2.6.9. I will need to consult with my colleagues, but I don't imagine we'll want to go to 2.7.0, simply for the sanity of upgrading in the future. If you or Krikor can tell me when v3 will be available and whether it will contain this functionality, that'll help me a lot. And you've been an immense amount of help to me so far. I see what your saying now. I checked my live site in which i am using K2 v2.6.9 and indeed i do not see that functionality in the K2 Content Module for filtering by tags. I do however have a development site i am working on in which I am playing around with K2 v2.7.0 and in that version it looks like the tag filter option is available in the K2 Content Module. K2 v2.7.0 is located here - github.com/joomlaworks/k2 .

I haven't run into any real problems so far trying out v2.7.0 but at the same time v2.7.0 was never officially released so I'm not sure just how safe it is to use it on a live site.

With v3 coming soon I'm not sure if v2.7.0 will get officially released or not.

Hopefully Krikor will see your post and have a better answer for you. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, the tag cloud isn't what I'm looking for. It was a module called "mod_k2_content_tag". I'm not the owner of the 1.5 site, but from what I'm seeing here, it looks like it lists items from a category or several categories, but allow you to further filter what appears by the tags assigned to the items. I'm attaching what the configuration looks like.

I'm using the latest Joomla 3 with k2 and have a K2 Tag Cloud. Check out the "K2 Tools" module in your Joomla module manager, that might be what your looking for.

I am currently migrating a client from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 3. And have moved all of their K2-related content over. But in setting up the modules again, I noticed that the "K2 Content by Tag" module isn't there. During the setup, I didn't see a way to mimic the behavior through the "K2 Content" module provided. Am I missing a package to install or configuration for this functionality? Or is there a module you would recommend to get this feature back? Thank you for the help!

If Google indexed them, then you have to remove them from there.
You can do a quick search to see if you can remove patterns of URLS. This will save you a lot of time.

I don't use ads extensions.
Only pasted adsense code into the K2 - Tools module (Functionality : Custom Code).

but our site is a littlebit older and so we use round about 600 tags. Is is a many work to remove that with the Webmaster Tools ;)

This issue was caused in some sites by a K2 Ad extension.
Are you only using K2 Tools for your ads?

I don't use external seo/sef components.
Only activated standard Joomla SEO settings and advanced SEF for K2 URLs.

If Google indexed these feeds, you need to remove them from your Webmaster Tools dashboard.
As for sh404sef, I am sure there is a way to remove them from that component as well.

To answer your questions:

1. Yes, I am uploading through K2's image tab or directly via K2 media manager.
2. I'm sorry but I'm not sure what a word limit is. I can say that I am building a Chinese language learning & movie site, so when I insert an image into a K2 item, I go into the Joomla image manager and add an alternative text and (in advanced) a "title", which actually controls the "tool tip" upon hover, and in those two places I add Chinese script.

With all that said, at first I thought I had already ruled out sef and url rewriting as the culprit. However, I just turned them off again to double check today and the images seem to be appearing again. Therefore, it could be related to SEF and URL rewriting...

An online article that discusses this issue says:

As a rule, the URL rewriting on the page must happen after the content is generated on the website, and before the cache. This means that under Extensions – “Manage Plugins”, you need to make sure that the order of the Joomla SEF plugin is after all the content plugins, but before the Joomla Cache plugin.

So I checked my plugin manager and found that the order of plugins is:
Content
System Cache
System Sef

Where as the author indicates the order should be:
Content
System SEF
System Cache

I would "make sure the order is correct" but the author does not say how to reorder the plugins so they're "ordered correctly."

Appreciate your advice.

Are you uploading your images through K2's image tab? Are you using a word limit?

Thanks for your answer. In "Layout & view" we can disable 'to show' the tag feeds, but switch off? Your problem is we see google indexed there feeds and we don't like it. We found the tag feeds also in sh404SEF ...

Items with no specified meta description, contain script text in the generated meta tag description.

Directly after the image, the html meta description contain some adsense script that's supplied by a K2-Tools module.

Result in the HTML Source (and also in google search results).

When I go to a Tag View listing page, the intro text and images before read more appear fine. However, if I click out and immediately return to the same page, all the images disappear. This does not occur in K2 Category View pages.

My recommendation was NOT to hack the core.
The || $task == 'search' should be || $task == 'tag' in your case.

As for the tag.php file, please read this post on overrides. getk2.org/documentation/tutorials/174-templating-with-k2-and-the-concepts-of-sub-templates
