This snippet is for your index.php only.

In the code you pasted I cannot see the snippet anywhere plus the if ($this->countModules('left') > 0) {
is not closing right after the module. This means if you don't have a module in that position you won't be able to see the component as well.

You can use the gallery tags inside the item
{gallery} {/gallery} to see how it works, but the Pro version has more options to work with so I would advise you to use the Pro version from the start.

K2 Items Not Displaying

Category: English K2 Community

Gantry Framework K2 Component Joomla Template #39234 (Template Monster)
Joomla 2.5

All of my K2 items are not displaying on front-end.

Under the projects tab I have two menu items:
- Residential
- Commercial

K2 Items are then tagged Residential and Commercial. There is a total of 18 items in the project category 15 residential and 3 commercial, BUT only 7 for the residential are displaying.

I've cleared the cache, and also enabled system cache...articles won't display.

PLEASE HELP!

I will have to redirect you to another answer => getk2.org/community/New-to-K2-Ask-here-first/6472-K2-SEO-issue---Can-it-be-fixed?limit=30&start=30

The last post only. (No need to read the entire thread obviously, although I think you are familiar with that thread.)

As you will notice you have two options. Finally are you using a plugin for canonical URLs or Joomla! 3.0 canonical tag? My personal suggestion is to use an extension if you already know of one.

These URLS are generated from your menu items. You can either map every subcategory as a seperate menu item or use an SEO extension which will provide you with a "canonical" meta tag.

I have same problem here.

How to "map subcategories" ?
I made a separate menu item (not shown at the front-published) and it didnt help.

Are you saying we cannot have menus with dropdown submenus !!??
All K2 categories have to be only one menu item, and nothing under it ?

I've got a similar problem. My K2 Tools tag cloud module automatically assigns the Itemid of the page that contains it, which may have some use in other scenarios, but my issue is that K2 requires an Itemid of type component -> tag in order to display the tag list results. The module isn't using the Itemid of a known menu item for tag list, and thus nothing displays.

A bad hack is to insert Itemid=whatever after the <?php echo $tag->link; ?> in the module template, but a hardcoded Itemid is hardly a solution and will make the module useless for other pages.

SEF is even worse. I'm hoping there's some procedural solution to this to stay within the K2 code expectations.

adding custom dropdown menu to comments

Category: English K2 Community

Hi, I have a site of reviews. Until now I've used K2 as component for my reviews. Anyway, I'm thinking to let's write reviews even to my guests, and let's appears them under mine reviews. For that goal, I need to modify the comments form of K2.
So, It's possible to make a custom field in the form comments of K2? I only need to add a drop down list field named "ratings" and the numbers from "1" to "10" as options of this drop down field.
Once that peoples have send their comments/reviews with their rating, the number that they have choosen as rating should appear over the comments and in H1 tags.

Is it possible?

TAGS and Multilanguage sites

Category: English K2 Community

Hi there.

I'm new to K2 and this is my first time here.

So..., I'm going to deploy a new developed website based on Joomla 2.5 where I used K2 as product catalog container (Jewels). In the next few weeks I wanna add e-commerce capability to this website, but before I have some questions about multi language combined with tags in K2.

The website will be deployed in 6 languages (en-GB for all, it-IT, de-DE, fr-FR, es-ES and pt-PT) and therefore I created 6 language main categories with sub categories, and tags for 6 languages (about 25 tags for each language).

Since at time it is very difficult to add the correct tags and you spend a lot of time, my question is, if it is possible to filter tags in the article edit step on backend, as it can be done with categories. If yes, how can I do it. If not, I wanna know if there are some news about a feature like that. A suggestion filter during tag typing will be also a good solution.

Thanks.
Bye Robin.

Hello David,

If you are using any introtext limits, then all of your HMTL tags will be stripped.
You can change this through your category settings. Also make sure you are not using any global rules (they are defined in K2's parameters).

To have complete control over your content you need to specify the introtext either by using your editor's read more button or using two seperate editors. One for intro and one for full text.

You enable this feature from K2's parameters (Use one editor window for introtext & fulltext - Advanced Tab)

K2 SEO issue - Can it be fixed?

Category: English K2 Community

Hello there,

K2 uses the default Joomla! router for its URLs.
You have two options either use Joomla!'s default router, map your content in menu items and try K2's advanved SEF (Read this blog post. getk2.org/blog/1169-k2-v265-released)

If you are still having issues with duplicate content you can always develop or use a canonical tag K2 plugin.
This way even if you have similar content it two pages Google will always 'look at' the original content and disregard any other URLs.

The second option is to bypass and not use Joomla!'s router altogether. For this solution you will need an SEO extension (it has already been stated in this thread) and use the extension's router to handle all URLs, canonical tags and 301 redirects. Make sure though your SEO/SEF extension supports K2 or has a K2 integration. From that point it is up to extension to have clean urls and good SEO.

I have personally tried both solutions (even a hybrid one) and I have to say both worked in production sites with a lot of traffic.

I have been building my site for months now using K2 and today - when I almost finished - to my surprise I realized that K2 has been building a lot of duplicated URLs. The guys over at anything-digital said that it's a K2 issue and not a sh404SEF issue, which is cleary true.

First the damn tags are producing a duplicated URL every time an article has been posted with already an existend tag. This describes it pretty well.

This issue is not new to K2, related threads has been posted in the past with not so useful solutions.

It seems to me sh404sef developers blame k2, who blame Joomla in the meantime nothing changes, it seems the ball is squarely in k2's court, why not get together with anythingdigital to make & sell a plugin that works gets rid of this duplicate content problem once & for all instead of passing the buck.. The way i see it it's in every bodies best interest to get this sorted.

Peter I 100% agree! I'm still waiting on a solution to this issue.

I must agree as well.

I will be happy to pay for a solution to this problem - as K2 is the best CCK i know for Joomla, but afcourse with this SEO problem t's not possible to use on sites that actually want to have alot of traffic.

[SOLVED] K2 and CKeditor

Category: English K2 Community

Hi, I've installed K2 in a site which uses CKEditor and I've noticed that there is a conflict with k2.js and doesn't load the extrafields when adding/editing an item which uses textarea with editor.

The error is:
Uncaught ReferenceError: K2SitePath is not defined (k2.js)

Is there any way to fix it and make k2 compatible with ckeditor or use another without changing it in the articles editor? Anyone had the same problem?

Thanks in advantage!

Yes,

Do not delete the entire hidden menu just the menu items towards all categories (the ones described in the K2 blog post).
I don't see why you can't map each category to a specific menu item (you can even assign some items to your hidden menu).

I think if you follow these steps your problem will be solved.

First, thanks for the responde. unfortunatly I use them like static pages so I can delete the Hidden Menu (no problem at all) but I can't do the first item on the list so I can't "Map all yo categories in menus". So is there another solution in your opinion?

but if I delete the menu structure (so item>>item>>item) all of my site blow up and the information for these two days gone...also use the K2's advanced feature...it means to tell sh404sef don't use the link only in the tag component of K2? How can I achieve it? And how to tell K2 to use the www.domain.com/tag/tagname.html rewrite condition?

You don't have to tell K2 anything, sh404sef does all the work. All the URLs will go through the sh404 router.

I think there might be an issue with your setup. There is no need to map your all your items in menus (item>>item>>item) except if you need them to act like static pages.

So my proposed solution would be:
  • Map all you categories in menus
  • DO NOT map any items unless you really need to
  • Do not use the hidden menu technic with sh404sef
  • Fill in the sh404SEF Integration fields that K2 has

Yes, now it's more clear also to me. I suppose that adding the hidding menu should not make the situation worst. Anyway I can easily delete it.

Krikor Boghossian wrote: Indeed your URLs look like old Joomla! SEF I have to agree on this one.

I think that too but I really don't figure out where they come out from...I mean in the site everything has the tag www.fresconaturale.com/tag/tagname as for settings

Krikor Boghossian wrote: I cannot figure the problem but I think I can help you.

Thanks so much.

Krikor Boghossian wrote: Using sh404sef means you are bypassing the Joomla! router alltogether, therefore there is no need to use K2's hidden menus method. I think that particular menu structure and the sh404sef router might be causing these issues.

Try disabling these menus and stick with the sh404sef router (in order to keep all your URLs intact) or use only K2's advanced SEF features (thus using the standard Joomla! router).

Sorry I really don't understand. I can easily delete the Hidden menu (no problem for that) but if I delete the menu structure (so item>>item>>item) all of my site blow up and the information for these two days gone...also use the K2's advanced feature...it means to tell sh404sef don't use the link only in the tag component of K2? Krikor Boghossian wrote: jimie is correct on search engine caching, that might also be the issue. Try one the two methods, give it a couple of days and see if you still have new 404 errors.

Hope that helps.

I know what jiimie says but, believe me, the eproblem is not that Google cached the 404 url but how (and where) these urls appears in first place.
