I currently run a site with Jooms 2.5, publishing articles and stories

K2 will import your exisitng content. Sometimes if you have a large number of articles you may run into problems with the import. There are other commercial solutions for importing items into k2 (search here for csv import)

With K2 I would like to change this and make it possible for users to comment on posts.

With k2 the build in commenting system will either work for all users or registared only. Recaptua is a good idea if setting comments to all users to prevent spam

I have heard that K2 makes some extensions incompatible, so that might be a concern, as I plan to implement a for pay / membership section in the future.

K2 does not "make" any extension incompatiable, although the extension "may itslelf be incompatiable"

Also, I wonder if the change is reversible, can I go back to standard Joomla if I experience problems that I cannot solve with K2?

The joomla articles you import into k2 will still be there along with their categories and will not be deleted. i do not know of a system to put your new k2 items back into articles unless you do it manually

instead of have to cobble it together with tons of different extensions

That is really what k2 is for. At minimum you will need k2, sigpro, and all videos, which are all from joomlaworks.

I would suggest you put up a test site and test all your extnesions, plugins, and the import process to make the choice from actual tests !

Hi,

I would like to be able to edit the way that tag results and tag page menu items are displayed.

I would like the results to be displayed in much the same way as the K2 catorgories menu item.

How do I go about changing the layout so the tags are displayed in two columns? I would also like the images to display their caption which they currently do not.

use Mod_k2_content with Enhanced subcategory first
Use mod_k2_content with Normal subcategory second
Use modules anywhere from nonumber.nl to insert both of the modules into one k2 item or joomla article...

I just updated to 2.6.1 to test the OG support and it seems the og tags are defined wrongly.

For example, it's defined as this at the moment.
That's wrong, it should be
So technically speaking, the og tags in K2 at the moment aren't working. Now to figure how to disable those faulty tags in K2...

I would think that the headline of an article should always be H1 if possible.

Why is K2 setting this to H2? I thought this would be bad SEO?

I know changing this would need thousands of websites to fix styling, but at some point, there should be a change...

Maybe there could be a setting that you could turn on that would revert K2 back to using H2 for those that really do not want to use H1? So with a new version, you automatically get H1, but you can change back with a setting...

 Thanks a lot for your answer . ModelCpanel is not the main issue. According to your words I have uninstalled and installed k2 again. But tags still not works in back-end. After typing process ends and tag doesn't add. I have tried saving and then check but still same. I saw firebug console but no error. Please help . If you want I can pm you admin details

There are several posts here about the ModelCpanel, search for it and you will find posts from Lefteris that suggest deleting a file, that was left over from a previous version. Also, the latest 2.6.1 or the svn should have a routine in it to automatically delete the file on install

In my test 2.5 k22.6.1 site the tags function properly by typing a tag and pressing enter.
Back up first and try reinstalling

Hi after searching a lot I,m posting this question. When trying to add a tag in k2 item in joomla 2.5 backend, nothing happens. I have pressed enter and also tried with comma. I have tried with updating k2 latest version. But still same problem. I,m using ja_wall template, joomla 2.5. Also I,m getting this error after k2 upgrade

I installed K2 and set up some contents on localhost to learn how to work on it and it worked fine. The only issue was the tag cloud.

So, I decided to do the same job online and it didn't show the contents. The module tools were ok but not the contents.

Because I installed the latest version online and previous version (k2_v2.6.0 ) in the localhost I thought it could be an issue. I uninstalled everything and installed the same version as localhost but nothing change.

I have worked many hours and didn't find any mistake, any reason for the missing contents.

I checked all parameters to the localhost website and everything is ok. The website are identical. The only difference on both is the users, nothing else.

What could be the reason? and what can I do?

The path should be /templates/YOURJOOMLATEMPLATE/html/com_k2/

It's better to upgrade to K2 2.6.x (latest version) as it already comes with OGP meta tags.

Hmm.. depending on your template the file could be in a different folder, but it should be something like com_k2\template_name\item.php You can put the code near the top of the file, say after line 17.

Anyway, for anyone still looking to use this code, I have modified it to be as dynamic as possible so the field values are pulled from joomla instead of a static value. Note: Make sure you check the 2nd logo path though, it's picking logo.jpg from the root image folder but you can change it yourself to read from any folder or file.

Can you please also check if your tags and extra fields are working? If they appear on the article you save... only new articles, not old ones.

The item .php error was confirmed by a moderador of this forum in this topic

The extra-fields (and tags!) issue:

When creating an article, you fill your extra-fields and tags. But when the article is saved (and gives the php error), the information of tags and extra fields is not saved, and the item is published as you had write nothing on extra fields and tags.

I commented out the foreach block of code that begins on line 719 in

administrator > components > com_k2 > models > item.php

That solved my problem. But I don't know what the repercussions are for commenting out that code. It solved my immediate problem, but may create more.

Here's the code block as it is now, with my change:

In the K2 Parameters, Content Tab has a field to enter "Item Introtext word limit". Can we also have "Item Introtext word limit on Layout & view options for user (author) pages, Layout & view options for tag listings, Layout & view options for Search & Date listings as well please?

This worked a treat, but I've been trying to figure out how to use my template module styling with it. I've tried a few things and obviously copy code from the template.php file isn't working. I've tried code I found http://www.gavick.com/forums/general-discussion/gk-module-position-in-a-k2-template-12214.html on the Gavick forum but it screws up the page.

I could hardcode the styling but I thought I'd try and learn something in the process to keep the flexibility.

I'm using a Yootheme template.

It seems how the code in the template.php file pulls the styling from Joomla doesn't work inside K2.

Any help or leading to the right direction would be appreciated.

I've been working on this for a few days and finally got to the point where I thought I'd ask :)
