I got the solution. Just for anyone else that needs the answer..

1. create K2 template
www.kavdesign.net/blog/coding/modifying-the-tags-results-page-for-joomla-k2-creating-a-k2-template-over-ride/

2. go to templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/html/com_k2/templates/default/

3. edit category_item.php

3a. edit item.php

*. Edit whatever you like :)

ordering items in a catagory

Category: English K2 Community

Yes I beleive I have done that correctly. I only have one catagory selected on my menu page "class description". Then I went to my catagory page and set it to ordering. All of my k2 items are in the order I want on item control panel page but not when displayed in frontend.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,

Hi. Ensure that you are changing the correct option for ordering. If you are making a menu link to multiple K2 categories the ordering settings can be found in the menu settings. If you are making a menu link to a single K2 category the relevant setting is located in the category edit page.

I am not able to order my items in a catagory. I have the items listed in the order I want in the backecnd control panel but it does not matter what I set the parameters at (ordering, date published, latest modified etc) it still displays in the frontend in the same order without changing. (i did remember to refresh the page HaHa).
Any Ideas of what I can do to change the order. I use k2.5.7 and joomla 2.5.4
Thanks,

location of image gallery

Category: Simple Image Gallery PRO

I can't seem to find the location of the image gallery.

At first I used the default location (in the plug in) but it would not appear between my {gallery}{/gallery} tags.  I checked into the site through FTP and the folder doesn't appear to be there.  I have switched folder locations to meda/k2/galleries/NAME  but that doesn't work either.  Pretty frustrating, especially considering that I am sure this is easy to figure out.  I have spent about 3 hours trying different solutions but I'm stuck.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you

Mixing K2 and Joomla items

Category: English K2 Community

Is there a simple way to mix K2 and Joomla items on the front page? At the moment, I have an "About Us" item as a Joomla artical and a few as K2. And would like to have the About us at the top, with news catagory from K2 underneath in chronologican order (newest first).

Would it be easier to just have everything as K2? Can I order the front page like that in K2?

Not able to migrate content from 1.5 to 2.5

Category: English K2 Community

Your automatic upgrade will not work properly, you will have to face lots of problems in future.
Here are the steps:
1. Make a Fresh install of Joomla, your template, and your all extensions of J 2.5
1. Create K2 User Groups manually
2. Assign Super User to k2 group manually
3. Migrate your K2 Categories directly from PHPMyAdmin database
4. Create fresh Menus and menu items and assign k2 categories (It can be done automatically by migrating menus directly frm PHPMyAdmin but you need to be an expert as you will need to do a lot of modification in database).
5. Now Migrate your Joomla users directly from PHPMyAdmin database
6. Then Migrate your K2 users directly from PHPMyAdmin database
7. Then Migrate your K2 items directly from PHPMyAdmin database
8. Then Migrate your K2 tags directly from PHPMyAdmin database
9. Then Migrate your K2 Comments directly from PHPMyAdmin database
10. After migration of your all data you need to run some SQL queries on your new database.
Thats it!
Note: Just keep in mind that the Id of each item should be same as your previous database otherwise your most of the links will not work.

If you are not comfortable with PHPMyAdmin then you can take my or any other professional service.

hightslide thumbstrip

Category: Simple Image Gallery

Browsing around on your forums, i learnt a few things but did not get the exact answer i was looking for.

I created two galleries with your SigPro extension, which were inserted into two Easyblog(the extension) posts, the galleries appeared at which i was exceptionally happy - thought hey this is working. When i clicked on it highslide appeared with an awesome thumbstrip, where i suddenly see rather than 30 pictures i have 60.

After reading your posts, i realised that your extention is based on creating a collection of images, if the gallery tag is based in teh same content item - which it sort of isnt as its placed in two seperate blog posts but it SEEMS that since it is the Easyblog extension which is creating the posts it is countet as same content item.

So i tried with K2 where it works fine but k2 lacks remote publishing option - which easyblog has.

end of the the day there are two questions, Can i use SigPro with Easyblog + highslide, and solve it in some way?

OR can i use k2 with SigPro which has no problem except i cant find a remote publishing option.

Thanks in advance

Organising Item Images by displaying a groupname

Category: English K2 Community

Hi,

I wanted to create something similar that can be done with mini-k2. So, several item images on a page so people can click on those images to read the article. Problem is I am working with Joomla 1.5, and mini-k2 can't be used for J1.5.

I have several item images on my website like this, now. Building something similar with k2 instead of mini-k2:

My question is: Can I group them somehow? Like:

Group A:

Group B:

I have chosen a 'catagory type' in the menu settings. Problem is: I can display the name of this catagory type, but I can't do this twice.

Would be nice if I can split my item in two or something like that.

Maybe adding a sentence to display a name in a php file?

Far as I know, they need to be done manually. That way you can edit the tags under the "tags" tab in the k2 section.

Blank Text area

Category: English K2 Community

I've never really used K2 until I loaded it with a template from Joomlaxtc and it all looked great and worked fine but then at some stage ... and I don't know when this happened articles that I was writing just stoped appearing with the text. Images and attachments are no problem but zero text.

Whether I start a new item or whether I copy an existing article and edit the result is the same, I can see the preview text in a display module at the front of the category but when I link into the article the text is entirely blank!

Please can anyone guide me to what could possibly be wrong?

Thanks

I am having a problem after following these instructions (though upgrading to 2.5) with images and galleries not showing up. I get this error when trying to view articles with galleries:

There was a problem rendering your image gallery. Please make sure that the folder you are using in the Simple Image Gallery Pro plugin tags exists and contains valid image files. The plugin could not locate the folder: media/k2/galleries/3786

I have copied over all the media from the media/k2/ directory including "items" and "galleries" and I set the file path in the SIG manager but I don't see the images or galleries associated with my k2 articles.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be wrong?

Many thanks!

Category Listing Not Working

Category: English K2 Community

Hello,

I maintain the Joomla-based website for an engineering services firm. Our website is located at www.artanderson.com .

Our website includes descriptions of current and completed projects. For a few years, I had been using the basic Joomla article system, and after reading about K2, I was excited about the possibilities for our website. The image gallery, associated image, and tagging system are just what I need.

I installed K2 and imported my Joomla content. I went through all of our project items and set them up for use in K2 (uploaded the associated image, tagged articles, etc.). Upon completion, I added a new menu item to list the K2 items in the "Completed Projects" category, but when one clicks the menu item on the front end, it lists the category, but says there are no articles in it.

Interestingly enough, I am able to create a K2 menu item that links to a single article, but the category listing does not work.

I have some suspicions as to why it is happening, but do not know how to address them, and was wondering if the community can help.

One of my theories is that my htaccess rewriting is causing problems. I keep Joomla in a separate folder at the root of my webhost, and use htaccess to redirect everything to that folder. My guess is that when K2 tries to call the category list, it is screwing up the path. I have seen many other posts that have had errors related to their use of Joomla in a subfolder.

I also use HostGator as my web hosting provider, and have seen other posters that have had challenges with this web host.

Finally, another theory has to do with errors in publishing the item. I have seen other threads where the backend reports that the item is published, but the frontend doesn't see it. Not sure if this is part of the issue.

To see some of what is going on, please visit the website at www.artanderson.com . I have created two links under the "Projects" menu to illustrate. "K2 Category Listing" is a K2 menu item that lists all K2 items under the "Completed Projects" category. "K2 Item Display" is a K2 menu item for a specific K2 content item (neglect the formatting...what's important is that it's showing the info).

I appreciate any help the community can provide.

K2 Site Transfer Didn't Work - Need Advice

Category: English K2 Community

Hi,

Using phpmyadmin, I just transferred K2 content from my Joomla1.5/K2 site to a Joomla 2.5/K2 site.
  • In the J1.5 site, K2 version 2.4.1 is installed.
  • In the J2.5 site, K2 version 2.5.7 is installed.

Everything transferred well except for items. They llok okay, but the Access level field is blank.

If I try to change the Access Level to Public I get the following:-

TableK2Item: :store failed
Unknown column 'language' in 'field list' SQL=UPDATE `jos_k2_items` SET `title`='An Introduction To Felting',`alias`='an-introduction-to-felting',`catid`='24',`published`='1',`introtext`='

If I try to create a new article, when I save it I get a similar message.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this? I'm not a coder so layman terms would be brilliant.

Thanks,

Pagination = Duplicate Title Tags w/ SH404SEF

Category: English K2 Community

I think K2's paginated pages used to have unique meta title tags by including "Page #" in the browser title. But it doesn't seem to work any more, all paginated pages have identical title tags. Any suggestions on how to fix this programmatically?

Re: Featured items not showing up on home page

Category: English K2 Community

Featured articles do not work the same in K2 as it does in regular Joomla articles. There are several ways to avoid duplicating articles.

1. Create a K2 item and call it what ever you want. I used Home Page.
2. Create a menu item using K2 item and select the home page item created in #1.

Now,
1. you can write directly to the home page by editing the home page item,

2. you can create a "Custom Html" module. For position, give it any name you want. For example, say the module was going to be an article on roses. In the module title, give it a title such as North Carolina Roses. In the position box, type in ncroses (for NC Roses). There are many different types of modules. The Custom HTML will, among other things, allow you to create a psudo item. Here's what I mean by that. After you write your article about roses in the Custom Html module and save it. Go back to your homepage item. Lets say you want that article on NC Roses to appear after your third paragraph on the home page. You add that article by using loadposition in this manner {loadposition ncroses}.

You can use just about any module in the same manner. For example. I have a chess viewer on my site. I used the Flexi Custom Code module to put the script in for the viewer and called the position chessviewer. I then used {loadposition chessviewer} on my home page item to display it.

3. You can also you the K2 content module to display items on your home page. In this case, you create a new K2 content module and select the category(ies) you want associated with that module. I created a K2 category called featured and selected that category in the K2 content module. On my homepage I added {loadposition featured}. Any K2 item I save in that K2 category will now be displayed on my home page. You can use the "order" feature to arrange the order the items are displayed.

You may need to experiment with this a little. Each method has its advantages and disadvantages. Also, take a look at my recent post about the K2 content module (fonts are cramped) as you may run into the same problem I did and that post will clear up that problem should you encounter it. Cramped Fonts

Hope this alleviates a little of you frustrations. I had the same frustrations when I first started using K2. I wanted to go back to using Joomla articles but realized how limiting that was. K2 is a great component. It does take a little getting used to.

BTW, if you select yes to featured in your item, all that does is show the little red tab across the top of the item. It does nothing else in K2.
