I would research modules anywhere and com_k2_content.
For your preferably answer, i would research the "more in this category" code
and also the category_item.php - try to alter the code in category_item.php to include the tag and use it like the more in this category section of item.php

Ok so I know this might be a bit tricky to follow but please be patient with me as I think other might be interested in this idea too.

My website has main "listings" which are obviously k2 items and all items related to the current items are displayed via the related items plugin at the bottom the item page. Items displayed here are not filtered by category rather it searches all categories for related items with any matching tags and displays it.

Now what i would like to achieve it this,

Each "listing" needs to have a news and events "module" and each of these modules should pull up all items (within a specified category) related to the current item, the thing is i would like to select the specific tag it pulls the related items from.

So in an ideal world i would have each "listing" with it's two "modules" inside the article.
One for news and one for events. Each "module" should then select the tag id or name from k2's extra fields and display only items with that tag and from within a specific category.

Now the tricky part, in order to tell each "module" which tag to use i though it might be possible to add 2 extra fields to k2 ie one for Events Tag Name and News Tag Name, so that for each article i create i can specify in the extra field which tag to use for each "modules" related items.

Is there a way I would output extra fields ie a tag id or name and insert that tag id or name into a "module" within the item view which then display relevant items filtered from specific categories? For each "module" the category id or name to filter tags by could just be hard coded into the "module" for now because those two categories wont change much but obviously this additional feature may allow for extra extendability later on.

I have managed to find a way to "print" extra fields values individually wherever i like on an item page but cant figure out how to use this data in conjunction with some kind of "mod" which can use those fields (which in my case would be specific tags)

For now all i am looking to do is create the two "modules", select in each article the tags id or name to uses and then send that id or name to the module to pull display matching items filtered within a specific category.

I know this is doable using existing modules however then I would have to create real modules for each article and load then via loadposition or similar but this would result in way to many modules so i am looking for a way to "build" this function on the page on the fly.

Anybody got any advice or pointers or had a similar problem ? Any assistance would be much appreciated.
This is the last real hurdle to overcome to make this new project of ours really work powerfully.

I don't know if it's because I'm not using k2 right, or if this is just how it is, but I'd like to get an answer - I posted about this 6 months ago but never found out.

When I use k2, each article I create can be accessed using the tags, and therefore it is the same article, but visible with a different url. This isn't good for google, if you have 5 tags, then you could have 5 different urls for the same article.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this just a limitation of k2?

You may use different templates if you write the tags inside the content item.
For example you may have selected Elegant at SIG PRO general settings and Galleria in one article by writing this in the content:

To sum up: I have Joomla 2.5 + K2.

I have a K2 item, for example: "The red ford mustang" with 2 tags: red and ford.

I have 2 menus:
Colors:
- red
- blue

Brands:
- ford
- volvo

Red, blue, ford, volvo are "K2 Tags" type menus.

If I click red, i get to a list of items tagged reg. I click the "Red ford mustang" K2 item i get to it. great.

The link in the browser is:
http://.../red/item/the-red-for-mustang

I click Ford, I get the ford tagged items. There is the mustang again. Ok!

I click it, i get to the same item again but this time the browser is:
http://.../ford/item/the-red-for-mustang

I want to put FB Comment under every item. One parameter ot the FB comment box is the url of the page where it is shown.

Is there a "global" url for my mustang k2 item which DOESN'T depend on how did i get to that item and is always the same?

I found a workaround: I set up a new menu and it has only 1 menuitem: "car". Which is the category of all my k2 items. Now if i click red OR ford --> and there the mustang i get to:
http://.../car/item/the-red-for-mustang

But that "car" menuitem looks kind of stupid. It could be called "All cars" or something but I don't want it to be there really.

So, without this category-link is there a "permalink" for my items?

I get different page title than I usein the libraries\joomla\document\html\renderer\head.php

I need title from head.php and use in tag.php

Try to stay out of the core. Start with an override. edit category.php and category_item.php
place html code in each file outside of the php tag so it will show you what its doing and where
You can comment out or delete entire blocks of code or rearrange them to suit your needs.
Its a blend of the k2 params and the files in the override.
at least thats the way i did it
