Hello friends,

I have a "hidden" category named "Drafts" on my blog site. It gives me a possibility to preview formatted pages, images and so on.
K2 Tools module has an option to filter category and it works well. For example, in tags cloud it calculates tag count only on published categories. But when I click on the tag - I see tagged items from ALL categories including my "draft" one.

Is it a possible workaround for this problem?

K2 still delivers the same things when coupled with sigpro and allvideo.

I am running Joomla 2.5.1 on IIS server with SQL server. I'm running PHP 5.3.9 and everything seems to be working fine including core Joomla functionality.

I install the K2 Component without issues and no errors reported once completed.

However, a set of tables were not created in the database. Because of this, I can't add categories, items, tags, etc... I get errors similar to the following:

TableK2Category: :store failed
[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near ')'.SQL=INSERT INTO [myprefix_k2_categories] () VALUES ()

I get an error when I hit the paramaters as well:

[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'myprefix_k2_user_groups'.SQL=SELECT id AS value, name AS K2UserGroup FROM myprefix_k2_user_groups

Any thoughts as to where the issue lies during the installation process?

We would hate to have to resort to Joomla core functionality on this site - K2 is MUCH more flexible and powerful.

I am looking at K2 as a possible way to create a directory of photo locations. Each location would be a set of "information" about each location with a primary picture and a description and possibly like an id field. I need to be able to tag the locations with specific tags.

My real question is whether or not there is an integration with a photo gallery. I need to be able to display or attach to an item a gallery of photos. It should be an unlimited number of photos in the gallery. I would like to be able to just put in a plugin tag like {gallery}name{/gallery} and have it then insert the photos in a grid pattern or however it is defined.

I cannot find any information about gallerys in K2 items, so I figured I would ask of the community if anyone knows about it.

Can you create content plugins to work with K2 content items like this to insert a photo gallery from a gallery component?

We have just released a minor update to AllVideos, version 4.2.

This new version is fully compatible with Joomla! 1.5 to 2.5.

This new update adds/updates/fixes:
- Added SoundCloud.com support, the biggest audio sharing platform currently on the web. The addition of SoundCloud.com also introduces a new simpler embedding mechanism. Users copy the entire URL of a SoundCloud "track" or "set" and then place it inside {soundcloud} plugin tags, e.g. {soundcloud}soundcloud.com/sebastien-tellier/look{/soundcloud}. As you may have noticed, this new embedding method does not use the "id" pattern which AllVideos has used since 2006. The goal is to make embedding as simpler as possible. This behaviour will soon be added to existing providers as well (while maintaining support for the "old way").
- Fixed JavaScript errors caused when enabling the "compression" option in the plugin parameters. This prevented proper playback for videos using the Flash/HTML5 player included in the plugin (e.g. FLV, MP4 etc.).
- The "autoplay" plugin parameter now controls YouTube, Vimeo and SoundCloud as well.
- Added special "switches" to the YouTube playback code to: disable related videos, allow fullscreen mode (for both Flash and HTML5 playback), allow HTML elements to overlay the videos if needed (wmode transparent).
- You can now fully control width/height for audio from within K2 (previously available only for video).
- The custom plugin options for width and height now control both video and audio (previously unavailable for audio). That's because the addition of SoundCloud as an audio provider may require width adjustments (height adjustment is fixed for SoundCloud). You are advised to reset your audio format dimensions in the plugin parameters to bigger values if you plan to use SoundCloud (only if you already use AllVideos on your site - new installations will pick up the new default values for audio: width 480px and height 40px).
- Simplified default CSS styling. The background container gradient has been replaced by a JPG background image which creates a better playback effect. Additionally, 2 new CSS classes allow for separate video and audio styling. By default the audio players will not have the container used for videos. If you have skinned AllVideos using MVC templating, make sure you checkout the new default AllVideos template so you can update yours.

UPGRADING
Just upload the new version and it will overwrite the old one. Visit the plugin parameters page, check if everything is OK and save the parameters.

Uhm.. William I don't understand. What do I need to do to do that?

You mean the k2 menu item, edit an item, right? I don't see any option in the menu item related to featured and tags?

Would you mind clarifying the steps? I'm sorry but I really am a K2 noob..

@William : I'm using the Allvideo plugin, just manually upload a file on the images/audio folder and on my item i just add the tag {mp3}slayer_angle_of_death{/mp3}

Just tested and Slayer played well :D

Edit the front end add a record, and remove the featured and tag ability from the display

My question is simple: I want to put a module onto my Joomla site but it whould only be visible when a visitor reads a K2 item: I have some traditional joomla atricles: no module there. If he clicks a K2 tag and a "search" pops in: no module. But if he click a "More" and a whole K2 article loads: show the module!

(This modul is my facebook comment module).

How can I do that?

Thx, but a tag cloud isn't what I'm looking for either. Perhaps I'm unclear about what I'm looking for so let me give you an example.

4AD actually does axactly what I want to do. There's a main blog (news feed) on the front page plus various other modules. If you click on one of the artist pages you're taken to that artist's page.
You'll see that the main blog has been filtered to display only posts related to that artists.

If I assign a menu-item to a k2 tag I'll loose the option to display other modules such as media-players etc., right?

I'm really keen on keeping the design as clear as possible and I'm pretty sure a tag cloud is too blog-like for this type of site.

I'm totally new to joomla and K2 so there might be something really basic about the structure of joomla sites that I'm missing... ;)

If each artist is a tag, you may want to investigate the built-in K2 Tag Cloud module... load this module on the pages you want, and it will show all of the available tags (with links to "view" those tags... aka the blogs).

In Joomla Module Manager:
1. Create new module, type = K2 Tools
2. Enter position, pages, title, status, etc.
3. In Basic Options, "Select module functionality" = Tag Cloud
4. In Tag Cloud Settings, set Min font size and Max font size both equal to 100%, and select the category for your artists

See if that might get you something that you're looking for.

I saw other forum posts last night about modifying this K2 Tools module to further change the display of the tag cloud (e.g. have each tag on its own line, so you'd have each artist individually), but I haven't had a chance to try that myself.

The only problem I have with the solution is all the menu items. I don't want a menu item for each blog area, what I want is to incorporate a blog module on pages with other modules.

I have a question, I have set up my website with 2 templates. 1 for the homepage (this is the default template) and 1 for the content pages.

I have set up my menu so that I get a K2 catagories view on a content page. On this page I am seeing several items with a "read more" button. Now, when I click the read more button, I get the full Item view only it is displayed on the other template (the default "homepage" template).

Does anybody know how I can solve this? I hope I have explained this clearly enough for you, unfortunately I only have the site on my localhost right now. But would be able to upload it to a demo environment if necissairy.

Say "blog" is a K2 category and that artists are actually "tags" in K2. In that case, you do the following:
- Create the K2 category "Blog" (in K2).
- Add some items (blog posts) in there. Make sure you TAG your items with artist names.
- Now create a "menu item" in the Joomla menu manager. This menu item will point to the K2 category called "Blog". Enter "blog" as the "menu alias".
- Add sub-menu items to the above menu item. These sub-menu items will be links to K2 tags. More specifically to the artist tags. Make sure the "menu alias" for each artist (aka K2 tag) has the URL format you want, e.g. "smashing-pumpkins"

Now visit your site's frontend. You will have menus pointing to your blog and submenus that point to artists (essentially, to tags). Your URLs will now be what you want ;)

Are you looking for a way to return only the K2 items with a specific tag? One way to do this is with a Joomla menu -- maybe this would help:

In Joomla Menu Manager:
1. Create new menu item
2. Select "Menu Item Type" = K2 Tag (select "Tag" under the K2 category)
3. In "Required Settings" for menu item, select an existing K2 Tag // limit of only one tag per menu item

Do you instead mean that when you view a category, you do not see the tags for the items?

If so:
* Make sure that the items have tags (if no tags, a template may not display the tag section)
* Make sure tags are enabled in K2 category (go to K2 -> Categories -> select category -> Item View options in category view -> Tags = Show)

I'm still playing around with K2 myself -- I'm sorry if that doesn't address what you are seeking!

hmmm... when I make a K2 Content component I cannot choose to display tags, only categories. Does that mean that I should choose categories in order to be able to use module to display the blogs?

Firebug will find the background and border tags and show y ou what to change in k2.css

1. How would we keep Bob Smith's blogging from deciding that his articles would end up in the featured category?

2. How would we keep Bob Smith's blogging from deciding that he wants his post to end up in all of the tags?

We want to be able to give people the potential to do their own blogging, but without that affecting the activities of everything else on the site.

I'm facing seroius issues with free-tagging on K2.
I'm using Joomla 1.7.4 and the most recent k2 version available.
I'm using a fresh Joomla instalation, without any other plugin or component installed.

The tags simply don't save when i'm writing an article.
I "Write a tag and press "return" or "comma"" but nothing happens. Tags don't save

I also tried in a fresh Joomla 2.5 instalation but the same happens. Don't work :(
