Archive layout

Category: English K2 Community

Ok..this is strange. It now appears that the K2 demo site's archive links are different than they were 30 minutes ago.

Previously, the link url was something like this - demo.getk2.org/en/category-blog/itemlist/date/2010/9 and now it's demo.getk2.org/en/items-by-tag/itemlist/date/2010/9

Is this now set up differently?

And now it's demo.getk2.org/en/component/k2/itemlist/date/2010/9

Please tell me someone is looking into this! :)

Hi,

You can use tags to "link" items between each others.

In the item details page, You will have related items by tag

Thought I would share the cause of this issue in the event someone else has this problem.

Uninstalling K2 and Reinstalling didn't help.

While going through and individually installing the K2 data database tables from backups, jos_k2_items was the problem table. Like mentioned before, new items worked fine in the backend, yet old items wouldn't work (Toggle sidebar non-functional, tags add/remove non-functional, attachments, etc. Everything that seemed to rely on javascript).

Deleting data from each field in K2 didn't have any result. I then tried this in PHPMYADMIN until I found that this field was the problem item:

gallery varchar(255) value = {gallery}1{/gallery}

Each of my entries had a gallery assignment similar to above. Removing this item in PHPMYADMIN fixed the problem. But, reinstalling the gallery just reintroduced the issue.

I was using Joomlaworks Simple Image Gallery Pro 2.04. Upgrading to 2.05 appears to have fixed this issue.

Move title next to image?

Category: English K2 Community

What I essentially did is go into k2.css and float the image left - also the trick is to change the order of the DIVs ever-so-slightly in the category_item.php to nest the image. Just scan through the HTML/PHP until you get to the catitemtitle DIV and make sure the image code appears within the DIV for the catitemtitle and introtext - most important of all though is to ensure there is no
in between the image and the header/introtext DIVs.
@Larry unfortunately to set the images the same height I used images of the same height, I'm not sure which stage the screnn grab was at that you saw, but they were all 4:3 ratio and are now square images (1x1 ratio)..sorry! I use Photoshop to crop them - if you're not in posession of a copy, you can use Splashup (www.splashup.com) which is a great utility.

I'll keep my eye on this thread anyhow, if you need any assistance I might be able to help in situ.

Multiple Tag Groups?

Category: English K2 Community

Hello,
I wondering if it's possible to create multiple tag groups.

Here's what I'm after...

In the standard K2 layout you have your category and tags.

Published In: Category

Tagged Under: Tag  Another Tag  A Third Tag  Etc.

What I'm wanting to do is have multiple tag groups.

Published In: Category
Tag Group A: Tag  Another Tag  A Third Tag  Etc.

Tag Group A: Tag  Another Tag  A Third Tag  Etc.
Tag Group A: Tag  Another Tag  A Third Tag  Etc.

Here's another example...

Published In: Games
Platform: Windows 7  Windows Vista  Windows XP

Genre: Shooter  Action Adventure  RPG  MMORPG
Developer: UbiSoft

If you click on a tag you'll get everything under that tag, tags would be fixed by group.

So... how could I make that happen with K2?

Thanks in advance.

Items in Multiple Categories

Category: English K2 Community

zach s said:There were some previous comments asking reasons or examples why this would be needed. In my case, I'd like to have 'product categories' section and 'manufacturers' section that lead to the same item. That's a really big and basic example. I could just do all the manufacturers as a tag, but I'd rather use the tags for specific properties of an item.
OT, but not really: I do feel that the current handling of k2/k2mart/virtuemart and 'manufactures' is a bit wonky and ugly to deal with. I'd rather when they click 'manufacturer' on an item page, they go to something k2 and not back into virtuemart where prior to k2 it would display all items of a 'manuf', but will not now that k2 took over. If that makes sense? I could be doing it wrong as well...

Tags do seem the obvious solution, but again, many of us need or would like to use the tag system for 'recycled material' instead of 'BRAND X', and other endless examples. Maybe the tag system needs its own categories to achieve this? Maybe that's already there and I haven't played around enough?

I would look at using k2's author function to handle manufacturers... and if you are building from scratch I would suggest you heavily consider Tienda (from dioscouri.com) as a VirtueMart alternative. K2 has a plugin for integrating with Tienda.

Item filtering by tag and replace the tag with an images

Category: English K2 Community

Hi.

For the filtering, take a look at this user module community.getk2.org/forum/topics/content-module-filter-by-tag-1

as far as replacing the tags by images, I don't know of any available extensions that does that but short of hacking the code, one thing I was thinking about is that you could use something like NoNumber's ReReplacer (www.nonumber.nl/extensions/rereplacer) and replace the tag name instances with tags... You'd have to find some unique character combinations for your tags (especially if you need them to also be available in some text format for the filtering) but that could work... Sort of a 'creative' hack ;-)

Good luck.

Item filtering by tag and replace the tag with an images

Category: English K2 Community

Hello, I was wondering if the following were possible with K2. Lets say I have a website that presents motor vehicles and I wish to offer the user to filter all the items by a specific set of keywords:CarMotorbikeTrucketc...But further than this, I wish to replace the Car keyword with an icon of a car, and replace the truck keyword with a truck icon. Are there are some existing extensions that would manage such things ? Or will I need to hack into K2 to make this possible ?I thank you in advance for your valuable timeAurelien

Introtext word limit

Category: English K2 Community

The reality is the code is not written to do what you want it to do. If you want to limit the word count of the Subcategories descriptions, you will have to modify the code.

As referenced in your post, you are looking at the Introtext limit. That is not what is displayed on category pages with subcategories shown. Instead of "Introtext", it uses "subCatDescription", a parameter that is written to the database.

Here's how to modify your code:

In the K2 administrative backend, editing a category, if you look at the parameters section, click on "Category view options" and search for "Sub-category description". There should be a place there to specify how many words to limit the description to, but there is not.

So open up /administrator/components/com_k2/models/category.xml

Go down to line 133, where it has a parameter for sub-category image. Insert this text before line 133:

<param name="subCatDescriptionTextWordLimit" type="text" default="" size="4" label="Sub-category description word limit" description="Limit the sub-category descriptions to this number of words. If this option is enabled, all HTML tags in the introtext will be cleaned up to make sure the site markup will not break." />

The description of the Introtext word limit when you hovered over it doesn't really address the word count: "If this option is enabled, all HTML tags in the introtext will be cleaned up to make sure the site markup will not break." The wording above makes more sense.

Save the file. Now, open /components/com_k2/templates/default/category.php

Go down to line 98, where it is referencing subCatDescription. Replace line 98 with the following code:

<?php if($this->params->get('subCatDescription')):
if ($item->params->get('subCatDescriptionTextWordLimit')) {
$subCategory->description = K2HelperUtilities::wordLimit($subCategory->description, $item->params->get('subCatDescriptionTextWordLimit'));
} ?>

Set the word count in your categories and the category descriptions will display like you want.

Be sure that if your template uses custom HTML in the template's directory, references to the $item object will probably need changing to the $this object. Such as $item->params->get('subCatDescriptionTextWordLimit') would become $this->params->get('subCatDescriptionTextWordLimit').

K2 Tag display module in grid view [solved]

Category: English K2 Community

I did a quick hack to make the tag view to display in grid view with 3 columns. You need to make changes to the files

components/com_k2/templates/default/generic.php
components/com_k2/css/k2.css

If you want to display 4 columns, change the 3 and 33.3% to 4 and 25%, and so on.

Existing Articles: Can't edit tags or use Toggle Sidebar

Category: English K2 Community

Hello,I was having an issue with an older version of K2 where the tabs weren't showing up in the back-end. I updated to the latest version and now can see the tabs.However, several functions do not work on existing articles. Using these features on a New article work just fine. But once an article is created and I edit it, these features are  non-functional:- Toggle Sidebar doesn't work- Adding new Tags doesn't work. Also, applying tags to an article, or removing them doesn't work.- Add attachment field doesn't workSeems to possibly be a java script issue. But, since it only manifests itself on an existing article, I am not sure what to examine for a possible cause.I'd sure appreciate some help if anyone has some ideas?Thanks!

Multiple Category Menu Item Layout order??

Category: English K2 Community

Hi,
I have had a couple of hours to try a few things out to "fix" this...
It does involve one VERY small change in a CORE file - You must remember to re do this change if you update K2 to next version... (I did this myself during testing this "fix" today and wiped out a couple of other bits I was working on - I forgot to back up - Doh!)
Also I am sure there will be a better fix but this works for me (k2 v 2.4.1)
Fix ALL itemlist pages - order by Category, and then order by Item Ordering !) - Works on Tag pages too

Edit around line 235 in :
components/com_k2/models/itemlist.php

case 'order':
if (JRequest::getInt('featured') == '2')
$orderby = 'i.featured_ordering';
else
// $orderby = 'i.ordering';
// ORDER by i.catid or category Ordering then Item Ordering ? Edited by This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
$orderby = 'c.ordering,i.ordering';

I have tried this with c.catid which might also suit your project...

Also I tested the items also display in Category ordering - and in Item ordering so I made category params set to display Item Order by "order" too....

Please let me know if this helps - I am not a coder - I try to learn as I go, and want to give a little back to the K2 community.

K2 Tag disappears from Breadcrumbs when viewing an Item

Category: English K2 Community

Maybe someone could help me with the following problem.
When I navigate to an item via a tag, the tag does not show in the breadcrumb.  For example:

Home > Catalog > MyTag

:: this displays the items with the tag 'MyTag'. If I click on an item then the breadcrumb is:

Home > Catalog > MyItem

:: so basically it doesn't show that i have navigated to 'MyItem' via 'MyTag'.  This kind of defeats the purpose of a breadcrumb.

Any ideas?  Thanks!
