Joomla User Manager and K2 uninstall

Category: English K2 Community

Below is a post I put on the site where I got the package.  One of the developers there suggested I post here to see if more specific information can get out for everybody.

My question is that when a site has K2 and the new users(even - SuperAdministrators) are created they do not show in the Joomla user manager, where do they go, and how can this be put back to normal upon uninstall of K2?

I actually did try to recreate this problem without the quickstart and I got same thing.  New users created after uninstall of K2 do not show in Joomla User manager.

Thank you so much for your help.  Unfortunately I could not wait, and I had to reinstall the site and use the Joomlart template without the quickstart.

I will try this next time, tho, I really love T3 templates and I'm sure I will need this in future.

In terms of extension enhancement which is done through template override through::

template/ja_portfolio/html/com_k2

You could have simply renamed the specific folder and override wont apply then. The extension functionality and styling would return to default stage which is powered by the extension files

Using remote images for items

Category: English K2 Community

Hi allI'm creating a video library site dentaldml.com/p2/ using K2 articles to contain the videos.I need non-members to see a video thumbnail (cant play video) and members to see instead the actual video (can play video).I would like to use K2's item image feature (without resizing) but all my images are remote, as are my videos. They are stored on a cloud not locally to Joomla.Does anyone know how I can use the image feature with remote images, entered as the image URL e.g. content.bitsontherun.com/thumbs/Kc4LNoee-180.jpg?An added complication is that I'm giving conditional display of the image using JUGA's jugaaccess plugin, so I cant actually roll my own image tag in K2 template (because the JUGA plugin wont then fire on it). Here's the way I'm doing it right now (manually) in the item description field:{jugaaccess !Members}     <img src="/content.bitsontherun.com/thumbs/Kc4LNoee-180.jpg" /> {/jugaaccess} {jugaaccess Members}     {botr}content.bitsontherun.com/players/Kc4LNoee-UGxbzzKa.js{/botr} {/jugaaccess}
I cant see a way around doing it like this. Although it would be nice to find one so the users dont need to create their HTML tags by hand.thanksDex

Multiple Category Menu Item Layout order??

Category: English K2 Community

Hi,
I just had to do a multi category menu page for a client, could not work out why items were displaying out of "order" sequence...(Other K2 sites I have built were sorted by Date, or order was unimportant)
I worked out that the items are displayed in order, but the Category plays no part in the ordering/display order so :
item A (order #1) Category X
item B (order #2) Category X
item C (order #1) Category Y

It would display item A, then item C, then item B (order is literal 1,1,2 ?)

Time constraints have lead me to this flexible/easy workaround....
To display "Combined Category X &amp; Y"
Use Single Category Menu item,
Filter param set to Category X,
Download/Install Mod K2 Content (Tag Version)
In Mod K2 Content Module (params set to filter by category : Category Y,
Order set to : order,
and Display on Menu Item :"Combined Category X &amp; Y")
Hope this helps ( I am using the Mod K2 Content (Tag Version) for more than this as it can be styled to suit the rest of the site.....)

No errors, but it looks like the wrong page/contents are shown (always the same, no matter the page we select).

This page for example:

it works fine if SEF URLs is off, but as soon as I switch it on it displays some random contents.

Can please anyone let me know if there's a solution to this?

The purpose of Article ToC is different. It gives a brief view of article structure and tells the reader what sub-heading comes under what and helps him decide if there is anything of interest.

Also, tag space would become too crowded.

Is there a plugin guide or something that says what needs to change to make the existing plugin work with K2 ?

Qbin2001 said:You can use tag for this (change template with targetting particular tag on subtitle place). Search forum for showing only choosen tags.

And especially useful if it is a long article.

Any idea how to make it work or does K2 have a substitute plugin ?

Need to show a related item from a different category

Category: English K2 Community

I tried to create a K2 Module to do this, but was surprised to see that I could not do it. I want to show Related Items by Tag, from a different category.
So for example, if I am looking at a page in my audio/visual receivers category with a dolby 7.1 receiver, I'd like to be able to show dolby 7.1 speaker systems which happen to be in a different category called speaker systems.

I've approached this from several angles:
   * Creating a K2 Items module allows me to retrieve items from categories, but not by tag. So, using my example, it would show all speaker systems and not just the 7.1 speakers.
   * Under Categories, changing the item view to show related items by tag just shows related items from the same category, so it would just show me related receivers and not speaker systems.
   * Using the Extra Fields feature doesn't appear to let me selectively link to items (in a way that would be easy for my site owners to manage.)

Does anybody see a way around this?

Thanks

Google Chrome bug with K2 Tags was created by Geoffrey Mack

Google Chrome bug with K2 Tags

Category: English K2 Community

I have a problem with Google Chrome and K2's tags. When editing an item in K2 and I start typing in the tag field, K2 suggests some tags which have been pre-defined, and I select one. But with chrome the browser doesn't record the entry... the tag is essentially blank and gets recorded as undefined.
I've tried this in Firefox and it works fine. This is just with Google Chrome.

To duplicate this:

1) Make sure you have some tags defined in K2.
2) Using Google Chrome, edit an Item.
3) Start typing one of your pre-existing tags into the tag field.
4) Select one of the tags that K2 suggests by clicking on it.

The tag will then be recorded as "undefined."

Items in Multiple Categories

Category: English K2 Community

There were some previous comments asking reasons or examples why this would be needed. In my case, I'd like to have 'product categories' section and 'manufacturers' section that lead to the same item. That's a really big and basic example. I could just do all the manufacturers as a tag, but I'd rather use the tags for specific properties of an item.

OT, but not really: I do feel that the current handling of k2/k2mart/virtuemart and 'manufactures' is a bit wonky and ugly to deal with. I'd rather when they click 'manufacturer' on an item page, they go to something k2 and not back into virtuemart where prior to k2 it would display all items of a 'manuf', but will not now that k2 took over. If that makes sense? I could be doing it wrong as well...

Tags do seem the obvious solution, but again, many of us need or would like to use the tag system for 'recycled material' instead of 'BRAND X', and other endless examples. Maybe the tag system needs its own categories to achieve this? Maybe that's already there and I haven't played around enough?

Hi Mike,

I had to modify the php and css files that generate the page. I had to add the "read more" function that was featured in the "display category" function.

Please check this page code

www.artofswimming.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=itemlist&layout=generic&tag=the+team&task=tag&Itemid=158

as example.

Yep, this should be on the feature list for K2. It would enable people to have 'roll-up' views and create something like a hierarchical content architecture in which an item can appear in different parts of the hierarchy.

Front editing not saving text?

Category: English K2 Community

Hi,i have a small issue with the front end editing of K2 Items.Any user who creates an item can edit it, can see the link and everything. While creating the item there is no problem whatsoever, everything is saved. When editing, the text entered is not being saved. If i upload a new image, it is being updated. If i update a new tag, it's there. Just the text in the editor is not being updated...I am not getting any error, in fact it is saying "Item saved". The text information is in the Post data.I am using K2 2.4.1, with the standard TinyMCE of joomla.Anyone has a clue as to where i can start finding a solution?

Hi Yiota, I went to K2 general parameters and allowed the img tag, but the images are still not showing up if I limit the word count in a category. what am I doing wrong?

Yiota Ziaggou said:I'm afraid that cannot be done. You can use the existing image in the introtext though to keep showing in your lists. If you have enabled the word limit on the lists or the cleanup introtext from the general k2 parameters though you won't be able to see them because the introtext is being cleaned up. You should go to the K2 general parameters and just allow the img tag from the introtext, along with other tags you want to be allowed.

Yes I know all this thanks though. I have an override which I will shortly look into (might be missing a closing div) - but what I need to know is:
This joomla example remedies frontpage layout. I'm getting the same on an unmodded k2 layout elsewhere. Anyone else able to shed some light on this?
