ItemId problems when using K2 modules

Category: English K2 Community

Hi Markus,

Don't know how to solve your exact problem but I've ran into the itemid issue when displaying the tag or author page and with sh404 on.
One hack is to use the Advanced Module Manager (www.nonumber.nl/extensions/advancedmodulemanager) and assign default modules to appear when no itemid is found. Maybe that can solve some of your issues...

Non K2 Pages

Category: English K2 Community

Hi,
I love the K2 component and have just used it on a customers site. Perfect for their news and articles pages.

However, the site also has a shop (Virtuemart) and a forum (Kunena) that are currently performing badly on load times.

Analysing the site load (using www.octagate.com site timer) I see that on these pages, even though there is no K2 functionality on the pages, the page is loading the following from K2

com_k2/css/k2.css
com_k2/js/k2.js
com_k2/css/../images/fugue/feed.png
com_k2/css/../images/system/loading.gif
com_k2/css/../images/syste.../transparent_star.gif
com_k2/css/../images/system/featuredItem.png
com_k2/css/../images/system/font_decrease.gif
com_k2/css/../images/system/font_increase.gif
com_k2/css/../images/social/twitter_16.png
com_k2/css/../images/social/delicious_16.png
com_k2/css/../images/social/digg_16.png
com_k2/css/../images/social/facebook_16.png
com_k2/css/../images/social/googlebuzz_16.png
com_k2/css/../images/social/myspace_16.png
com_k2/css/../images/social/reddit_16.png
com_k2/css/../images/social/stumbleupon_16.png
com_k2/css/../images/social/technorati_16.png
com_k2/css/../images/syste.../k2CalendarLoader.gif
com_k2/css/../images/fugue/globe.png
com_k2/css/../images/fugue/mail.png
k2/css/../images/system/videoplayer-bg.gif
com_k2/css/../images/system/stripes.png

Now these items above are adding around 2-4 seconds to the page load which is impacting on the performance of these pages.

Is there anyway of restricting them to only load on pages where K2 is actually used?

Does disabling the System-K2 plugin remove these but then will K2 work with this disabled?

Thanks in anticipation

Problems with Front page layout linked by Tag

Category: English K2 Community

I want to replace my front page with a K2 item.If I link a menu item to a category I get the folder icon (not a good look for the front page so that's out)Link to an item - that's no good as my client likes to put up a new front page every other week so I want it dynamic. So I thought Link to a Tag - BUT here's the issue:How do you control the layout of an item linked by a tag? There are 3 view optionsCategoryItem in a CategoryItemBUT NO TAG - you change any item in the above 3 sections and it has not effect on the layout of the item when selected by tag. When an item is selected by a tag you getRSS feedDate createdTitlePublished in ...How do I turn these off?? Until I can I'll have to use Joomla Articles :(CheersIan

Windows Live Writer Support

Category: English K2 Community

I recently used K2 to develop a company intranet system. The front end editing is currently holding us back in terms of ease of use.

I would really love to get to a point where K2 could be used with live writer. It would difficult I think to put the additional fields into place as this would presumably require a plugin for livewriter. However if even the article entry and tagging could be used this would probably account for 90% of my use.

I would transfer my own personal websites to K2 tomorrow if this feature could be implemented. I really do rely on live writer for producing content offline... far more reliable when composing longer articles!

K2 Content Category view displaying within template though items dox not show in the template...

Category: English K2 Community

Hi Josh,

I believe this is a problem with the urls, when you put search engine friendly urls on it screws up some of the catagory view (or so I have found). When I disabled SEF Urls the templates were working as they should do, so i would recommend installing another extension to do this.

I use JoomSEF and the problem was solved for me.

Hope that helps.

captcha code missing, language files and disabling comments?

Category: English K2 Community

I just installed K2 locally for testing and am so impressed! Thank you for a great product. I do  however have a three questions. The first of which is that the captcha code is not showing up. I see the text that explains that the user has to enter the two words below, and thereafter is the submit button. In the CSS code there is only empty div tag pointing to a captcha class.I also wonder if I can disable comments. I will have 20+ users and only a few will want to have comments enabled. I do however want to maintain each memeber page as a K2 item.My third question is if there are any available swedish language files?I have looked around the forum and not found the answers to these questions. I would be very greatful if someone could either answer me here or point me in the right direction. Thank you!Helena Åsgård

Diego,

The information in the plugin configuration page basically says:
Create a folder structure in your Joomla template html folder as follows:
/templates/YOURJOOMLATEMPLATE/html/com_k2/templates/mytpl/

tip1: mytpl is the name of your K2 template
Inside that folder create a CCS file named:
/templates/YOURJOOMLATEMPLATE/html/com_k2/templates/mytpl/mytpl_style.css

tip2: The css file should be named adding "_style.css" to the name of your K2 template.

diego said:Hello In the directory "templates/ja_purity_ii/html/com_k2/templates/default" i have the file "ja_purity_ii_style.css". However I select as Layout template of category the default template, it is loaded the css from "components/com_k2/css/k2.css" and not the ja_purity_ii_style.css. The same happens on the pages showing the items of a specific tag. Why? Any idea? Thanks

K2 item in Multiple Categories

You're English is good. And we understand your frustration. Zoo has its advantages but, after my limited testing, as a whole, it does not compare to the complete package K2 offers. Though, as you stated, perhaps one of the most intuitive and necessary functionality, multi-category publishing of a single item, does not exist in K2 but does in Zoo. I have much time and effort into K2, but I actually have tested Zoo to consider migrating to it due to this limitation in K2. I'm not hopping the fence anytime soon but am keeping an open mind. Thanks for your comments.

Very slow on item saving from front end and back end

Category: English K2 Community

Hi since I updated to the latest version of K2 I experience very slow saving. It can even take minutes to save. In average is 30 to 40 seconds. This happens only at front end. However, when I click on save, I look at the backend and the records (Item, Tags) are there, however front end seems to wait for something...I have Joomla 1.5.20 and the latest mootools. Please help!

I've noticed what you report

At the bottom of the translation page for a K2_categories Menu Item in translation view there is a parameter called link.

Now the original for this param reads for instance:

index.php?option=com_k2&view=itemlist&layout=category&task=category&id=5

However the translation reads:
index.php?option=com_k2&view=itemlist&layout=category&task=y&id=

Is there a K2 solution for this?

I'm using joomla 1.5.20, with joomfish 2.0.4 and K2 v2.4

Thanks for any help..

Johan Nobel said:I had te same problem, but "solved it" in a not so correct way. The main problem is the following:

In the original Menu Item "Fetch items from children catagories" is greyed out.
In my case this setting reads "Yes", although I have specified "Catalog mode: Yes" for this category in the K2 category manager (This imples "No" for fetch children items).

Of course I can set "Fetch items from children categories" to No in the translation for the menu. This does not solve the problem however.

Modifying and saving does not help either, the task and id parts are emptied on save somehow.

When you see this it is logical that things go wrong for the translated item.

My quick and dirty fix was to copy the original link into the the value field in those records in the jf_content tables where reference_table=="menu " and reference_field == "link".

Alternative solution, but not tested
I figure that if there is no need to translate the link url, you could also modify the line:

field type="text" name="link" translate="1" posthandler="saveUrlParams" prehandler="checkUrlType"

change it into

field type="text" name="link" translate="0" posthandler="saveUrlParams" prehandler="checkUrlType"

in the the menu.xml file in the contentelements folder.

But I have not tested that, so there might be side effects!

Hi Omalanp,

Prevent users from creating new tags in Free tagging (with auto complete) mode? (SOLVED)

Category: English K2 Community

Hi,

I found the solution. I have disabled the new tags creation from all user levels before Administrators, in other words, the only users that are allowed to create new tags are the Administrators and the Super Administrators.
Here's how you do it:
You need to change the file administrator/components/com_k2/models/tag.php at line 68.
The current line looks like this:
if($user->gid<24 && $params->get('lockTags'))
JError::raiseError(403, JText::_("ALERTNOTAUTH"));

Modification (Notice that I am keeping the previous line as a comment.):
// The following change prevents users with less than administrator level access to create tags. 02/09/2010 by Manos
// if($user->gid<24 && $params->get('lockTags'))
if($user->gid<24)
JError::raiseError(403, JText::_("ALERTNOTAUTH"));

I hope this will help someone, because it gave me a big headache for over a month. :D

For those that it’s hard to perform the “operation” I attach the revised file. Just copy it to directory administrator/components/com_k2/models.
The file is from version K2 v2.4.1.

Take care,

Manos
