K2 item in Multiple Categories

Category: English K2 Community

I don't think the concept of the single-category per item content structure is a way of thinking that is advanced and, therefore, a reason to change the content construction strategy and our subsequent way of thinking. It is merely a huge limitation in the way K2 works, and the way in which virtually every other blogging and CCK software functions.

While there are unique and very favorable advantage to using K2, the aforementioned issue is a huge drawback to many of its other unique features, one that Fotis has no interest in solving, as per blog posts and Tweets. I am certain there is some purpose to his reasoning, but I have yet to hear it nor cannot fathom any reason that would justify remaining the course on this methodology.

Personally, if tags were given the ability to possess content description, photos and process Joomla plugins, the problem would be solved and produce some beautiful content, an intuitive interface and some excellent SEO.

With that said, here's a semi-related topic I created.

It might just be that we are used to think in a certain way and we got used to this by using a different software/system. I am also using WordPress for a couple of sites and like some of the things there a lot. And I am used to the category system there.

But maybe it is better to switch this for the tags. Maybe that is a more flexible way of doing it? Opinions?

How to change the "Read more" position in category blog layout

Category: English K2 Community

10x a lot
I'll try to implement it
Eden

Olivier Nolbert said:Hi Eden,
1. You'll have to make css changes to your K2 template to change the 'Read more...' position :

div.catItemReadMore {}

It seems you don't have any k2.css loaded on your website, so modifications have to be made in your 'addon.css' file.

2. It seems you have an unclosed html tag. If you take a look at your code, there's a lot of after the second item. Check your second K2 item html content.

Your Idea Of TAGS are terrible

Category: English K2 Community

This is not to criticize K2 but hopefully for K2 to advance. I come from Drupal and decided for a certain client to try Joomla . When I saw the downfall of Joomla menu structure compared to K2 that stated "the Drupal CCK" version in Joomla hey let's go for it. OK it's been tough but worked things out UNTIL TAGS (is this suppose to be a version of Taxonomy?). I've been at TAGS for the past week and read reread every imaginable possibilty. Simon says do this but it doesn't work since, I figured, he is using a different version I'm on 2.3. For instance your sense of TAGS with related items by TAG just doesn't work and I've seen plenty of complaints. OK I agree that certain users don't need TAGS in simple websites but if I have to create a site that gets pretty complicated then K2 falls apart with TAGS since this is the heart of my website. And if there are answers as to why don't you buy an extension, I've been screwed too many times to tell my client the company doesn't exist any longer or there are no upgrades. Long story short "...tags are our index to a harmonized website...."

Auto Append Meta Feature in V2.3

Category: English K2 Community

HiCan someone tell me how I use this feature?  We have a client
who would benefit from being able to auto append the meta description
and keywords, as indicated in the v2.3 upgrade notes "K2 will now
auto-append the first 150 characters of the item's text
onto the "description" meta tag, if none is specified. It will also
use any tags added for the "keyword" meta tag."Many thanks :-)

Assigning menus lets users access to your K2 content.

You can have 1000 K2 items, if you don't have a Joomla! menu item linked to a K2 category, item, user, tag...your 1000 K2 items will never be read.

To create an item menu, in the backend, go to 'Menus -> Main menu'. Click on the 'New' button.

You have to know what you want to display :

A specific K2 item : K2 -> Item -> Item

A list of items,
from a K2 category : K2 -> item listings -> Categories
from a K2 tag : K2 -> item listings -> tag
from a specific user : K2 -> item listings -> User page

or finally K2 -> latest items -> latest items

When you'll have configured your item menu, you will have access to your K2 content on frontend.

It's the same process for all Joomla! components.

well i have read the k2 link you sent and i just played around with joomla till i was finally comfortable with it ... when i open my control panel these a joomla and k2 data even though i have imported all the information from joomla to k2 1. i want to know how to use k2 as a solo default like i use to with joomla 2. i dont understand this "STEP 10. Assign menus using the Menu Manager.
Options:
Copy or form layout
Item – create a menu item directly to an item in K2
Categories – displays a list of items from one or more categories.
Tag – create a menu linking to a tag in K2"
maybe that can be a problem i have ...
User Page (blog) – create a menu item linking to a user page (blog layout)

CSS Change for Content display and Category Article View

Category: English K2 Community

Sorry for posting 2 questions in one post but I hope you can help here.Website is www.pandionknights.co.uk/newsite3 (as this is under dev).Question 1On the homepage I have it set to display from a number of catagories.  I deally I would like all atricles from that catagories to be displayed in one column.I notice K2 has the Layout Grid option and essentially labels stories as Leading Primary and Secondary.  I have changed number of columns in Primary and Seccondary to 1 as well as Template but it still shows up as below:

My second question relates to if I can not reall change this.Question 2If I do decide to keep the twin column display I need to seperate the articles with some sort of padding and pissibly a 1 pixel line.As you can see with the image below the articles actually touch each other and there is no divide. You help would be greatly appreciated.

HTML stripped from introtext

Category: English K2 Community

I have the same problem with html tag strip.
The solution is exact: remove any number for introtext limit under "Item view options in category listings"
(settings for category)
coz u need check first of all:
"Content Cleanup Settings " in global k2 settings:
"Fulltext HTML cleanup (tag strip)" -> NO
thats all :) work perfect

HOW DO WE PULL RSS FEED FROM K2 CATEGORIES INSTEAD OF JOOMLA

Category: English K2 Community

what i think is needed here is the large rss icon on the front page.. and how do you make this easily, k2 gives us such tiny icons, and punters are well, er dimm simon. ive a gallery on my martial arts academy thats been visited 120 times and no ones commented shared or rss'd the gallery feed. we need to make it loud and easy on the front page.

Simon Wells (K2 Support) said:Each category will display its own RSS feed for it and any other sub category within it.
What I believe is being suggested is this, set up categories as follows:

(SORRY FORMATTING STRIPPED BELOW)
HOME CAT
Sub Cat1
Sub Cat1a
Sub Cat1b
Sub Cat1c
Sub Cat2
Sub Cat2a
Sub Cat2b
Sub Cat2c
Sub Cat3
Sub Cat3a
Sub Cat3a1
Sub Cat3a2
Sub Cat3b
Sub Cat3c
etc, etc.

The HomeCat will display RSS for ALL sub cats within it
SubCat1 will display RSS forall of its own sub cats 1a, 1b, 1c but not 2 or 3
This continues for the others cats.

As of V2.2, there is NO single item RSS feed, as yet.
The file structure only allows for catFeedLayout, but I have clients and there are others that would really like to have individual item RSS feeds to.

Any ideas anyone?

Regards,

Simon

FidelGonzales said:If you do not have one already, create a category that contains all the K2 categories you want in the primary feed, then link it to your main menu. Make that menu item your default menu. Alwin said:In my case the RSS has to pull all the articles from K2 and display it as the default feed. I mean when the user clicks on the feed links in the adress bar he has to get his feed. Also I am sorry but I haven't got what you mean mean by "Just make a K2 category your "home" page ;)" . Could anyone please explain it ?

I would like to either hard code or see an option to add additional feeds into the home page URL as a dropdown. Is there such a plugin or module? This way, when someone is on the main page and selects the RSS button, such as the case on many large sites, they have the dropdown option to select sub-categories, authors, tags, forums, comments and the like.

Is there anything such as this or any hard coded method we ought consider?

Using K2 to publish content to home page

Category: English K2 Community

Just to elaborate and share some insider information.
I always create a category "home" in which I will use to write items, specifically to publish on the home page, then use k2 modules or others to help populate the page.

If you already have a home page link pointing to the Frontage, you can edit it to point to the K2 category instead.

K2 content will publish to the centre column as the left and right are modules.

Hope that helps.

When clicking at K2 tag sh404sef url, (/tag/senses/ for ex) I am silently redirected to website frontpage. What can be a reason for this? Is there any workaround except disabling SEF urls for task "tag" and view "itemlist" from com_k2.php sh404sef extension? Original tag url is:
index.php?option=com_k2&lang=en&tag=senses&task=tag&view=itemlist

Category List View?

Category: English K2 Community

Hello,

Without some custom templating work K2 does not offer an option for table-based category view. You can however create a custom template for your K2 Category which would display your list of K2 Items in a table format. It is not difficult to do, but it does require a bit of HTML/PHP knowledge.

The general idea is that you create the initial < table > tag, then have a "foreach" php loop through all your items and display them in the < tr >< td > format, then finally close the table with the</ table > tag.
Note I added in the spaces because the editor stripped the code out.

Autolink for Tags

Hi,

You can manage it by adding url's to your keywords in any content if you don't have a huge content this might work just right. For instance, you create tags and click one tag and get the url, and simply add the url to the word you want.

Worked for me, specially when you want a k2 taglist to show up as the continuation of a content.

404 error when trying to load items

Category: English K2 Community

Hi, I have a simmilar problem and I'm not sure if it is not me causing it.
I have created two categories, 2 extra filed groups. Each category is associated with extra field group. Have 2 items in the first and 8 in the second category. I activate the k2 tools as cloud as I used a lot of tags- also have about 15 tags specified in the tag tab. When I opened the first item i added everything was ok. But when I added the other items all of them were leading to the first one. If I unpublish the first one all of the items are showing 404. I have check all settings, moved the items in the different categories etc. even items from the same category link to this first item. FYI i'm not new to joomla at all but have no ideq what might be causing the problem. I went through all modules, plug-ins and tried most of the k2 settings
Displaying 5801 - 5820 out of 6582 results.
