I'm having problems with both swf and flv videos. The problems occur in both FF and IE7, even with an empty cache.

swf videos: The video thumbnail loads fine, and it usually starts okay when I click on the play button. But if I hover the mouse over the screen, the menu items start to disappear as I hover over them and the video stops running. Sometimes the video stops running on its own, and if I hover over the controls they disappear. This usually happens about 30 seconds to a minute into the video.

Finally got the .flv option working!

Simple fix: I made the .flv file name all lowercase.

(The .swf option still doesn't work even when the file name is all lowercase, but I don't care since the .flv option will work.)

Why on earth this fixed it I have no idea; there's nothing in the instructions about naming files in all lowercase.

Also on my site, the plugin is not showing any swf nor flv files.
Even the youtube video's don't work anymore. The video doesn't show, the link to the youtube page however still functions...

I've tried every suggestion that I found on this forum, but no joy.

Recently, I migrated to another ISP for my hosting and I think the issues started since then.
Unfortunately I don't feel confident enough to start digging in the config files of the Apache server... Can someone help me with this?

At home I work on a Mac (Leopard/Safari or FF) and a PC (XP/FF or IE). Tried several combinations of settings: none of them worked.

I'm curious: Who is your ISP?

Mine is ipowerweb, and I've been less than satisfied with their ability to support the Joomla stuff. Of course, since I'm a noob, I can't say for sure whether it's a host problem or a me problem. I can't advise you with config files either, as I'm a noob to all that. And as I'm sure you've found, many of the posts by noobs on this and other forums seem to go unanswered. Frustrating! Best of luck.

Tried permissions. Re-created files. Nothing worked.

I came here to this forum and no answers.

Then I got to thinking, we have been using this plugin for a while to push live streaming video from another server.

So I tried using remote and the full url to the files and BAM!!! THEY ALL WORK NOW!! I guess remote means anywhere not from your PC!!???  ???

All these tags worked!!

The reason those links didn't work is because you included the extension. You have {mp4}desparatehouse.mp4{/mp4} but it should be {mp4}desparatehouse{/mp4}.

However, I do want to say a big thanks because I was having trouble getting swf files to stream from my local server and nothing worked. Once I tried your idea to use the remote technique, everything worked great!  ;D

the only way I can get the player to show up at all is by adding the .flv extension in the filename.
They are local files, not remote, and still being a total pain. Just keeps loading and loading w/o actually playing
