upgrading in joomla 2.5x won't work! was created by Blue Monkey Web Design

I'm going through the normal channels to upgrade the component. The new version is 3.4.4 however when selecting in the extensions area of joomla and selecting upgrade I get the error :

Unknown archive path
Update path does not exist
Error updating COM_INSTALLER_TYPE_TYPE_.

All component folders are 777
all component folders in media folder are 777

any ideas how to upgrade?

777 are file permissions but i gather you know that, have you tried FTPing the folders/files across and overwriting?

Hi I haven't tried it manually.

I want to keep everything automatic and word through joomla so when there is an upgrade I can do it immediately.
Has anyone else had this problem?
