Extending Default 'Item' Forms

Extending Default 'Item' Forms was created by Mark Banks
Has anyone tried to extend the 'Add New Item' user forms? For instance creating additional input fields under the Content tab:
Item Title : Title Alias : Custom Field : Custom Field 2 : Text

Earlier posts by JoomlaWorks suggest that the input user forms can be easily extended - anyone tried it?
(I'm not referring to Extra Fields)

@JWorks - any guidance notes/tutorial on this?
