K2 Images not displayed was created by Geoff Hopkins
I am using K2 for my blog on the Gavickpro Coffe template.
I have not updated my blog for some time but previously I experienced no problems and everything worked correctly and as expected.
However, when I added a new article yesterday I had problems with images as follows:
I could insert images inside the article without any issues.
When I try to add a image through the Image tab however it is not working.
Recent image uploads are shown in the directory but have no thumbnail.
If I try to add an image which has a space included in the name I get an error message "Local File Does Not Exist" on saving.
If I try to add an image without a space in the name it saves successfully. However, the image does not display either in the backend (on Image tab or attempting to preview from article list page).
The image also does not display on the front end.
In all cases when trying to view the image a grey screen is displayed with "An error has occurred" on it.

Hi. This sounds like a server issue. First of all, don't use spaces or any other secial characters on file names. Now, for images that are saved in your server, just try to view them in your browser using their URL directly. Example : http://www.your_site.com/media/k2/items/cache/image_file_name.jpg.

Hi Lefteris,
Thank you for the prompt reply.
I have taken a look at the image files on the server and here is what I see the position to be:
The image files all appear in the site images directory.
In the "www.your_site.com/media/k2/items/cache/" directory (where I see that all files have a new name generated) the most recent files do not exist. The image files from my previous blog post (last September( are there but the newer files have not been replicated to the K2 image directory .

So any ideas why the images do not appear in the K2 directory?

Try to :
1. Create a new item. Save it and write down it's id.
2. Add an image to the item using the "Image" tab.
3. Call this URL on your browser: http://www.your_site_.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=ITEM_ID_FROM_STEP_1&template=system.
Let me know if the image is displayed or not. If not provide details about any messages you go during the whole process.

Hi Lefteris
I followed the steps as suggested.
There were no error messages during steps 1 or 2
At step 3 the page displayed but with just the 'broken image' icon. Clicking on the icon a preview opens but with only the message "An error occurred"

It is:
www.hatvala.com/hatvalacoffe/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=30&template=system
My suspicion remains that K2 is not generating a copy of the image in the K2 items directory.

Does the file www.hatvala.com/hatvalacoffe/media/k2/items/cache/1c0ae2205709722b62e843abc0471a55_L.jpg exists in your server? You can check it by using an FTP client. Since you are getting a 403 Forbidden error this means that probably the file is there but your server is not serving it. So this looks like a permissions issue. If the image is there indeed, then ask your hosting provider why your server cannot serve it. An other thing to check along with permissions is that you don't have any .htaccess files protecting the directory where images are located.

Hi Lefteris,
Yes the file is there and it does look like a permissions problem. The permissions were set to 6 0 0 and I changed these to 6 4 4 and it displays correctly.
What I don't understand is why all earlier images automatically had 6 4 4 permissions but the latest ones do not. Where is this set? Within K2 somewhere?
Thanks for your help. Feel like we are getting somewhere.

No this cannot be changed through K2. This has to do with your server setup.
