For my first post, I want to thank the creators of K2, it's great as an extension!
But what brings me is that I do not see how to create a multilingual site (en / jp) with K2. I know the conventional method of Joomla but that does not correspond to K2.
What is the best extension?
Any ideas please?
thank you :)

Actually you can build a multilingual site based on Joomla! 's native functionality.
For the best control over your content I highly suggest however that you use seperate categories and menus for each language.
This means each language must have its own categories, items, extrafields, and tags and menus.
If you are looking for extensions, I would suggest Joomfish or falang.

In de media map from K2 I see the system is duplicating al pictures even if they are the same. So I mean there are two times a version S or M of the same image. I think that is because there is dutch item about a painting and there is an English item about a painting. These images will be duplicated by K2, taking a lot of server space. They do not get the same name, the duplicaed one has a unique code name in all size versions. So there is 10 times the same picture in the Media map of K2.
Am I doing something wrong?

You can look for an extension at the JED or getk2.org/extend for an extension that offers this functionality.

Krikor, thank you for your answer !
I return to work and I understand that I can install JoomFish and Falang components. But is it mandatory?
If these components are not needed, how do I please?

They do help though.
If you have different K2 categories/tags and extrafields per language you do not need another extension.

demo.joomla.org/multilingual-capabilities.html
Be sure to use different menus and K2 categories per language though.

Hello,
I've created a multilingual website (Greek - English) based on the Joomla 3 native functionality but I have problem to "associate" any greek K2 Item with the corresponding English one. In other words: In multilingual website, joomla articles have an "Associations" tab where I can associate a Greek article with the corresponding English one.
How can I do that in K2 items too without using an extention?
Could you please help me??
Thanks in advance
Regards,
Maria

By default does not support associations.

If I use an extension, like Joomfish for example, do I have to rebuilt my whole site based on Joomfish?
Now I have created two main menus (Greek and English), duplicated categories (Greek and English), duplicated modules (Greek and English) etc. If I use Joomfish all of the above will not be useful?
Is there any way to avoid re translating the whole site and use Joomfish only for K2 items?
Maybe its a silly question but I am new in Joomla and I don't have experience with Joomfish.
Thanks for your time.
Regards,
Maria

If association is not a big deal I suggest you wait for version 3 which is coming in the next few weeks which has this functionality by default.

You can always use a template override and use an extra field to display your images (item, list, etc.) that way you can bypass using the K2 images parameter. This also means you can use one item for multiple items (just select the same image for the respective extra field)
I hope this helps.

Joe

1. Which is the next K2 version you refer to?
2. Which is the best tool to use in order to create k2 item associations?
