Category Item View Options not propagating was created by Michael Webster
I cannot get the item view options to propagate to items. An easy example is just trying to hide the email and print icons in the item, but not a single option works. It doesn't work if I try to do the same thing in the item, either. I tried that for troubleshooting purposes, but don't care because I want to be able to make more global changes.
I've also looked around at the module and system settings level. At this point, I'm afraid I may have changed some higher level setting while troubleshooting and forgot about it, though I generally do one thing at a time to avoid that kind of thing. Hopefully, it's not some basic install problem because I would hate to start from scratch at this point.
Anyway, I've worked on this for hours, tried everything I can think of and read everything I could find in forums. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Michael,
Is this category inheriting its settings from another category?
If yes then you need that 'master' category's setings.
Furthermore make sure that these elements are not hardcoded on your template by browsing your site with another template.

Thanks,
I am testing with uncategorised, which I believe is a top level category. With other categories, I have made sure that it was not inheriting or that it was inserting from one that I modified. I believe I have tried it every which way.
The template is protostar. I just changed to Beez2 and it had the same problem.

Imgur is over capacity so I can't post the screenshot that shows that category getting its settings from uncategorised, which is set to hide email, print, ratings and other things.
Joomla! 3.3.6 Stable [ Ember ] 01-October-2014 02:00 GMT
K2 version 2.69
Thanks

Update: I found a couple duplicate categories and after deleting them, many of the problems went away.
But at the lowest item level, it is still not taking the category settings. Now it works if I change the Item View settings for each individual item, but it still doesn't propagate the category settings.
Thanks again for your help.

Works now if I just go one level. For example, I have set up the "uncategorized" category with what I want to be default settings. Then I have a category "news" with a subcategory "local." If I set up "news" to use the "uncategorized" settings and "local" to use the "news" settings, "local does not pick up the "uncategorized" settings.
Not a big deal now that I know how it works, but it would have saved me a lot of time if it worked like it is supposed to.

Actually, it is supposed to work this way. It works with direct inheritance only.
