500 server error when saving some documents

My Joomla site recently started having an issue where some K2 articles not being able to save. On some articles if you edit them and then try to save or even cancel, you get an Internal Server Error (500). If you were trying to edit the item from the front-end you'll get a black screen that you can't navigate away from.
This is not consistent but seems to happen to some articles more than others. I've tried turning the server PHP reporting on and the Joomla system to full error reporting, but no errors are shown.
I'm running K2 version 2.6.9 with Joomla 3.3.6. I've also reloaded both K2 and Joomla in case I had a file issue.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Kent

Can you look at your server's error_log for the actual PHP error?

One thing I have learned is that I can take the contents of an article in question, and copy and paste it to a new article and it will save fine. I've run the "repair and optimize" database function in Akeeba Admin Tools, but I'm wondering if I've got a DB error somewhere.
I appreciate any help here. We're in a panic since this is our last major issue before we go live with the site.

How large where the images? Any attachments?
Also is it possible to have an example of the item?

The article "August 2014" is an example that can no longer be saved or edited.
The article "Test August 2014" is a new item that was copied from the original and saves fine.

I also tried switching my default editor from JCE to TinyMCE with no change.

Which other extensions and K2 plugins are you using?
Since you are using the 2.7 DEV version I would recommend grabbing a fresher version and installing it on top.

I'm running a very recent version of 2.7 DEV (two or three days old) - this was also a test to see if K2 was the issue, but it behaves the same as 2.6.9 did.

Without the error, we are in the dark. You should ask your hosting provider why 500 errors are not recorded in your error_logs.
