SEF & changing category- and menu structure

Hi,

I have to change both the menu structure and the category structure on my site. For example, I want to move a lot of items to a new category called
"archive" and I also want to make a menu-option for that purpose. But I intend to make more changes to the category structure.

However, that will change the SEF-URL's, right? I'm concerned about google-ranking and backlinks to my site..

I know that there are several joomla-extensions that can redirect url's, but I am not sure if that is the best way to go (we're talking about hundreds of items).

Any advice is highly appreciated,

Thanks & regards,

Erik

You can use menu item aliases.
Keep your menu intact and publish the new menu items as aliases to the original menu items.

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand : should I copy/paste the old menu-alias into the new menu-alias?

Thanks,
Erik

You can keep your old menu intact and create a new one based on aliases.

This means creating a new menu whose items (except the default one) are based on the Alias type.
