Hi,
You don't need an extension for that. K2 already does that out of the box. Just go to K2 settings and select the desired image size you wish to use when sharing on Facebook.

I just found out that k2 has this by default, but on my site (Joomla! 2.5.28 , K2 v2.6.9) it never worked.

You have entered the image inside the item text. This feature works only with K2 images ( images that are added using the "Image" tab in K2 item form ).

Is it possible to disable the K2's feature and implement it with some other plugin (maybe phoca open graph) so it gets the article image as well?

K2 will not add the image meta tag since the item does not have an image. This means that you should be able to use third-party plugins with no issues. However, this is just an assessment, we have not tested any third party plugins for that with K2.
