Error with the K2 User module was created by Steven Trooster
The K2 user module isn't working anymore, all of the sudden. It produces an error Using $this when not in object context The whole module position is affected, since no modules in the same position will show.
I've narrowed the problem down to the rendering of a menu within the user module. If I render no menu, all works fine. If I render any menu, I get the error.
I recently updates to Joomla 3.9.8, but the error seemed to appear out of the blue today.

Please update to K2 v2.10 (dev) from github.com/getk2/k2/archive/master.zip - it should resolve your issue.

Thank you. Is this dev version suitable for a live site?

Always. I'll be updating the K2 site soon to reference this version as a "rolling release", alongside the usual zip file provided e.g. in the Joomla updater.

Just a question: when will you get rid of the modal window for editing items in the frontend? It's very annoying for several reasons:
- the browser doesn't show a progress bar when saving an item. My editors tend to click multiple times on save, because they believe nothing is happening. (especially when they have a large image file attached)
- in conjunction with SIG Pro it's frustrating, because the SIG pro modal window overlaps the K2 modal window completely. Since SIG Pro doesn't have a close button, so you can't save the gallery and go back to editing the article. The workaround: save the article first, then add a gallery and save it, then click somewhere outside of the modal window to close everything and reopen the article.
- accidentally clicking somewhere outside the modal window closes the editing of the article, thus loosing everything if you didn't save it first..

Is there a good reason you chose to use a modal window for editing? I don't see any advantages.

The SIGPro modal is visible just fine within the K2 modal. Perhaps your options for opening the K2 modal are outdated and you're seeing a smaller sized modal. The default in K2 will fill up most of the screen. So things are easy to manage even in small-screen laptops.

Modals are used to include direct backend views. Fetching a component form within your frontend template is a bad idea for a million reasons...

The K2 modal opens in full screen, and the SIG Pro modal does this as well, full screen. So it covers the K2 modal. It wouldn't be a problem if there were a close button in the Sig Pro window. At least I can't see one.

Not in K2 v2.10 with SIGPro latest. See an example here: jmp.sh/gHZjtdg
