K2 iFrame Permissions issue was created by Linda Vanderbaan
I'm using iframe to embed videos on my church's website. I only want registered users to view them. So, I created some pages and made them visible to registered only - well, only Super Users can view the pages everyone else gets a 404. I changed them to public, still only Super Users can view the pages.
All other K2 items are viewable to anyone, including an older item that was migrated to K2 with an iframe - anyone can view that too.

The solution I found was to make them Joomla articles, now I don't have the permission problems. I would love to have them as K2 items, but unless the permission issues can be fixed, that's not possible.

Using the latest Joomla 3 and K2is 2.6.x. When a user registers, they don't get added as a K2 user - this could be a problem too?

First of all, K2 v2.6 is many, many years old. Upgrade please. And make sure you do the same for Joomla as well.

Secondly, it's most likely a Joomla user group permissions issue at menu and/or category level.

Thanks,

I'll upgrade K2 this week - after church, never fun trying to fix things last minute!

All categories and menus are public or at the most registered. Plus when I embed the videos into a Joomla article, there is no permissions problem.

Thanks again,
Linda

"when I embed the videos into a Joomla article, there is no permissions problem"
>> Perhaps because they were never modified after installation.

"All categories and menus are public or at the most registered"
>> Then the issue may stem on how your actual user groups are made and perhaps importantly, how they are ordered. Additionally, you or someone else may have tampered with K2's global ACL settings, under K2's component settings. If your menus and categories are open for everyone, I'm mostly leaning on the latter.

The easiest way for you to test is to setup a new Joomla site (local or remote, it doesn't matter) and then install only K2. Finally, compare K2's ACL (in K2's component settings) and the default Joomla user groups (and assigned ACL) with your site's K2 ACL and Joomla Groups & ACL settings.

One more thought. If only Super Admins can see content, this means you have to be logged in to view the content. So check if you have some other extension that may control content-viewing. E.g. a plugin that "locks" all K2 item pages or categories automatically to those who are logged. Combined with some obscure ACL setup for users in Joomla, it could explain your issues.

Thank you! I'm using a butchered version of K2 from SmartAddons in their SJ Charly template. I'm going to try to update K2. K2 reports itself to be version 2.6.8 - first I am going to try to update to 2.7.0.

I am currently backing up the database and downloading all my code.

I've been getting some social login based errors when trying to delete some K2 users, so, perhaps that's the problem? If so, I do need another social login plugin I can use...

Also, I have kept Joomla up to date - so I'm at version 3.9.25.

Do the gradual update to K2 v2.10.3 first and then we'll see if anything else is required...

OK, I updated K2 to v2.10.3 and I'm having the exact same problem. The K2 item cannot be viewed, requires login - it's so strange. lifechurchstratford.com/worship-service/k2-current-livestream

Then it's your Joomla ACL setup, which is expected as K2 does not lock content in the frontend. Only Joomla's ACL can do that.
