jUpgrade migrated content not showing in backend

Category: English K2 Community

I used jUpgrade to do a RESTful upgrade of my old 1.5 installation to 2.5.

Unfortunately, though everything was migrated, the K2 backend does not show any of my items. The phpMyAdmin database does show those items, though. Where did it go wrong?

+1 on this question. About to upgrade to a new template. Probably one of rockettheme´s latests. At the moment i use an older RT template called afterburner. Joomal 2.5. I also run a virtuemart webshop on the site. Have been adjusting the K2css a bit too to fit the dark background. Thank´s for any advice on what to consider when updating the template!

[SOLVED] Some weird happening with Joomla! 3.0

Category: English K2 Community

I upgraded my site from 1.5 (with K2) to 2.5. Everything works fine. I have now upgraded to Joomla! 3 and now i'm getting some weird things.
1st
The module for the K2 Content.
When i click on an article title it takes me to the article but the menu says i'm on the homepage. Instead it should be taking me to the article through the blog link on the menu so that as a user it looks like i'm in the blog section of the site. It works this way in joomla! 2.5.

2nd
In the menu items type I choose K2 > Categories. It works fine but I can't change any of the settings other than choosing a category. So, I can't change the number of columns or anything in the basic options other than choosing a category or layout options. If i don't choose a category i can change the options but once I pick one all the options gray out. On the front end it still displays the content in the default layout even if i change the settings before choosing a category.

K2 making site very slow - please help

Category: English K2 Community

Jack,

While I appreciate your perspective here, I provided a lot of detail about the issue I was having, but you're right that I didn't supply the exact K2 version. The code that I presented was based on the K2 Blog post showing off this new possibility in using the code to display individual "extra fields" - that was v2.6.2. I have upgraded that now to 2.6.5 in hopes that the new "speed improvements" that were advertised in 2.6.2+ would have some effect here. They didn't. But, the demo version of the site is now on K2 2.6.5, nonetheless.

Please note that I didn't start with a negative tone, and I don't feel that it got negative until after there was pretty much no response. I understand that K2 is free. I also understand that it is one of the most popular extensions to the Joomla system, has a pretty big user community, and is used in tons of templates from many different vendors. As such, I was really hoping for some community or developer support.

I understand that you can't debug my problems, but honestly, neither can I and this is why I came here for ideas. If you take a look at the demo site that I've posted and go to any of the non-K2 pages (basically anything that is not the home page and is not under one of the men's or women's sports menus), you will find that the pages load just fine. I just tested this now - 19seconds for the home page - 2 seconds for several different pages without K2 on them. Even the "coaches directory", which loads up about 25 articles with articles anywhere, loads in about 3 seconds. One sports page with a schedule of 15 games take 10+ seconds to load.

This is not a problem with the site in general. When I take the two K2 content modules off the home page, the speed problems are gone. If I remove the one K2-filled tab from the sports pages, they load just fine. This is almost definitely a K2 issue. I've tested this about as many ways as I could. I use the same T3 framework from Joomlart for all of the sites I build and none of them have this issue except this one - and MANY of them use K2, just not where they load a pile of extra fields on the page where they are having to pull many k2 items with their associated extra fields per page - usually they pull k2 items for Blog purpose or like our web design portfolio does, more or less one k2 item at a time or just a list of them without extra fields.

K2 v2.3 security upgrade or joomla 1.5 upgrade?

Category: English K2 Community

Hi guys,

due to security risks in the joomla 1.5 or even mods (K2 v2.3) on my site I am going to have to package up the site and install again on a newer version of Joomla.

Will I have to update K2 blog 2.3 to make sure that the mod is secure from hackers?
How can I do upgrades without causing errors on the website?

or will upgraidng to latest Joomla fix this.

The hackers attacked in through contents folder and htaccess, the site is hosted with aussiehq in australia, they assure me that the old ver. of joomla is the problem and not their cpanel / security,

thanks Whiskey-willy

What's the best SEF extension for K2.6.5?

Category: English K2 Community

Hi All,
We're in the process of migrating our Joomla 1.5.26 account to 2.5 .
The SEF extension we've been using as proven to be time-consuming and difficult to configure and run properly.
Could you please let us know what's the best SEF option for K2?

K2 SEO issue - Can it be fixed?

Category: English K2 Community

Hi Mike,

I have been looking into this issue myself and even went down the route of employing someone in htaccess coding skills to rewrite the URL.

After spending too many hours on this I now have it working.

 1. Back up your site using Akeeba Backup
 2. Download the latest version of K2 which is currently K2_v2.6.5.zip.
 3. Remember, if you have made any changes to the K2 CSS files without creating an override they will be written over. So keep any necessary files.
 4. Install K2_v2.6.5.zip via Extensions Manager
 5. Now go to Components / K2
 6. Click the Parameters button top right
 7. A window opens up - click the Advanced tab
 8. Scroll down to Advanced SEF Settings
 9. Enable advanced SEF for K2 URL's - Yes
 10. Use the item ID in the URL - No

Save and close.

These settings have worked for me. I wish I had only upgraded my K2 before spending too many bloody hours on this issue. Oh well - it's working fine now and it's great.

Don't forget, if you have a few Items that people access through a category listing you will need to update the redirects for their URL's which I now need to do so I'll have to disable the new SEF until I have a full list of redirects I need to set up.

Example URL change:
www.pixelfire.com.au/website-and-graphic-design-blog/item/121-top-10-joomla-extensions

Now becomes:
www.pixelfire.com.au/website-and-graphic-design-blog/top-10-joomla-extensions

Also this guy at the bottom of this URL has some good ideas for avoiding duplication of URL using the No Numbers Sourcerer and the rel="canonical" tag. It's worth a look.
forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?t=624631

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Neil.

In category/article listings view all ok but clicking on readmore causes all of my template changes to disappear.

What could be causing this problem, when I highlight this piece of code using firebug
<div class="catItemView groupLeading">
<div class="catItemHeader">
<h3 class="catItemTitle"> Fraserburgh Golf Club </h3>
</div>

It goes to the correct stylesheet

http://localhost/mysite/templates/beez_20/html/com_k2/templates/golfcourses/golfcourses_style.css

When I click on the readmore the same heading changes to H2

<div id="k2Container" class="itemView">
<div class="itemHeader">
<h2 class="itemTitle"> Fraserburgh Golf Club </h2>
</div>

It also uses the wrong stylesheet and messes up all of the style settings used

http://localhost/mysite/templates/beez_20/css/personal.css

The additional info stylesheet settings on the upgrade are using http://localhost/mysite/templates/beez_20/css/personal.css

Before the upgrade the additional info used

<div class="itemIntroText">
<a href="www.fraserburghgolfclub.org" target="_blank">
<div class="itemFullText">
<div class="clr"></div>
<div class="itemExtraFields">
<h3>

Using the following stylesheet

mygolfdays.com/templates/beez_20/html/com_k2/golfcourses/golfcourses_style.css

Why is the readmore after upgrade pointing to the wrong stylesheet

Changing urls to items

Category: English K2 Community

I've had a Joomla 1.5 site with K2 working faithfully for many years until my hosting provide shut it down saying I needed to upgrade to 2.5.

I have managed to do this but the urls to my K2 items have changed in 2.5.

This is not so good, since I have many manual links to my items.

In Joomla 1.5 the link to a K2 item was:

www.mysite.com/www/gasspeiser/k2-gasspeiser/item/16-panorama38

But this link does not work in Joomla 2.5.

However this link does work:

www.mysite.com/www/component/k2/item/16-panorama38

Is there a simple way I can make the first method working? Would save me a lot of work...

Thanks for all help!

Registration broken after upgrade to Joomla 2.5.9

Category: English K2 Community

Hello,

I have been using K2 and the K2 User module for login and registration without problems. Last night I used the upgrade function in the Joomla administrator area to do the upgrade from 2.5.8 to 2.5.9. All seems to work fine with log in and use, except now when a new member tries to register, they get the registration form and when they submit the form to register, they are taken to a component not found page /component/user/

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Hi William glad to see you are keeping up the good work well done.

it seems to be the read more settings that are losing the css settings, all works well in category view which shows a list of articles with read mores. Using firebug i can pick up this file http://localhost/mysite/templates/beez_20/html/com_k2/templates/golfcourses/golfcourses_style.css in category view, as soon as I click on read more I get this http://localhost/mysite/components/com_k2/css/k2.css.

Update

Category: English K2 Community

I had to update my K2 in order to be able to put links on the entire image in the slider.
So I upgraded from 2.5.7 to 2.6.5. After this most of the modules under K2 in Extension Manager are of version 2.6.5. But K2 Camera Slideshow is still 2.5.7.
How can I upgrade just that one? And why was it noe upgraded when I ran the entire package?
