Can't transfer K2 content from site created on joomla 1.5+K2 to new project on joomla 1.7+K2

Category: English K2 Community

Thank you. I've already returned to j1.5) It's a big oficial site, and I have no time to experiment. I'll upgrade both websites in spring.

How to migrate from Joomla!1.5 + K2 2.4 to Joomla!1.7 + K2 2.5?

Category: English K2 Community

Just tested a migration on local host. I would do some research prior to updating to be sure that your template, and all the extensions, modules, and plugins that you are using are available for 1.7. If they are not at best you will end up with a new site with your data tables intact and a good bit of work to do.

Backup your site {akeebabackup}

Upgrade your 1.5 site to 1.5.23 joomla

Upgrade your k2 2.4.1 to k2 2.5

get jupgrade

enable plugin motools upgrade

run jupgrade

test your new site with the link provided

delete all the files and folders in your sites root EXCEPT Jupgrade directory

Copy the contents of Jupgrade to your sites root directory

load your site

Install the 1.7 templates, extensions, and plugins that you are using

A very good tutorial on upgrade can be foundhere

If you get 403 errors on k2 items, turn sef off

Getting K2 from 1.5 to 1.7 is a snap and the easiest part.

Error building admin menus

Category: English K2 Community

I have read in other forum posts that this is 'only' due to a Joomla 1.7 site that has been upgraded to 1.6 that is using Front Page Slideshow. Untrue! I have a fresh Joomla 1.7 install and am not using Front Page Slideshow and am not able to use K2 because of the error. I have the following extensions installed:

Akeebabackup 3.3.4Admin Tools 2.1.6Contact Enhanced 1.6.3Gantry 3.2.11JCE 2.0.14NoNumber Extension Manager with Advanced Module Manager, Articles Anywhere and Cache Cleaner installedVersions 1.851 by Fatica Consulting

PHP 2.6.32MySQL 5.1.52

I supposed I could start with a fresh install of 1.7 and iteratively add extensions and see when K2 won't install but I don't have any problem installing any other extensions so it certainly 'sounds' like a K2 installation issue.

I didn't want to upgrade my old site at all. This is my mistake. I understand now an important thing - before exporting DB I should upgrade joomla and K2 - but I didn't want to touch my old site yet. It works well.

The matter is that I did the same thing with WP - when I moved to another hosting I installed there the newest WP and plugings and imported there my old base. And that worked. I wanted to repeat this thing with joomla too.Dut it doesn't work.

I'd better operate with joomla 1.5 + stable K2 and wait. Thanks a lot!

gameinatrix.com - We LOVE our K2 /Gaming site

Category: English K2 Community

We've been using K2 for about a year and a half and it's the best thing that ever happened.

It allows my writers to go in, post, add images to the gallery and a main image rather easily. There are a few quirks but might be more my doing (I'm not the best web developer, lol, but I do what I can) but at it was very easy to get acclimated to.

I can't wait until it's stable for Joomla 1.7 so we can update. I've gotten a peek at the 1.7 version while making a site for a family member and it's just gorgeous! But we won't upgrade until K2 is ready, otherwise we'll stay in the dark ages of Joomla..but still looking fabulous.

www.gameinatrix.com is our site. A gaming news and reviews site for female gamers.

Hi,

This can be done by moving the code for the category item readmore, again like my previous reply, a template over ride would be best. If you modify any component templates, they will be lost during any K2 upgrades.

Hi,

For recaptcha, I used a 3rd party plugin from the JED, but then decided to use Disqus as I was plagued with spammers on k2joom.com.

Check templates/YOURJOOMLATEMPLATE/html and see if you have a com_k2, if so, you have a template over ride in place and would explain why your not seeing changes. Also, modifying the template in the component will be a problem if you ever upgrade k2, as it will be over written.

If you need more help on K2 templates, then see my guides on simon.get.org and k2joom.com

I have the Rockettheme templete Radiance for Joomla 1.7

I have download the Beta version twice. and each time it appears to turn off all the javascript on my website. elliminating the functionality built into to the Rockettheme templetes and extensions.

I realize this is a beta version but is this something inherent in the program, a simple fix, or something I will need to wait till fully complient. When I uninstall, the javascript is enabled the site functions fine.

the website is in testing at. test.kccurling.com/jupgrade/

Better Image (media) uploader for k2 articles?

Category: English K2 Community

Is there a better k2 image uploader out there?

I'm talking about the "Image" button at the lower left of the article edit screen.

The link points to /administrator/index.php?option=com_media&view=images&tmpl=component&e_name=text

It is a "media manager" that might have come with core joomla but I'm not sure.

The problem is that once editors have uploaded a large amount of images.. the loading of that iframe becomes extremely slow. Imagine opening a page with over 1500 images each at 250k+... It crashed my browser several times just trying to load the iframe. Making things worse is that there aren't any options to create folders so that the images could be better organized.

So I'm wondering if there's a better image/media manager out there for k2 articles?

Or should I be looking at a upgrade for core Jooma "media manager"?

Joomla 1.5.18

K2 v2.3

Thanks!

What did you use to upgrade Joomla to 1.7? Jupgrade or something else?

Category: English K2 Community

Appreciate to info. I'm starting to think K2 is officially dead with no communication or updates and no one maintaining the forums (days of spam?). I will keep using it of course cause its still great but they really need to communicate with the community better.

Comment Form Not Showing

Category: English K2 Community

Since I upgraded to latest version of K2 the comment form in the item view is not working for registered users. I changed all the permission settings to yes in the registered group but nothing is happening. Only the super administrator can comment. Any ideas?

Here is an example:

cafemeetingplace.com/gmc/guest-speakers/item/550-guest-speak...

You have to login to post comments: username: camila18, password: rush404.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

k2_categories table has no language field in db - Joomla 1.6 with K2 SVN 2.5(RC)

Category: English K2 Community

UPDATE 2: I executed 2 SQL queries for j16_k2_categories and j16_k2_items that fixed the language issue:I used a simple db SQL query that inserted this column into the K2 _categories and _items tables:

ALTER TABLE `j16_k2_categories` ADD `language` CHAR( 7 ) NOT NULL DEFAULT 'None', ADD INDEX ( `language` )

And then to set the value for the language column:

UPDATE j16_k2_categories SET language='None'

That solved the issue and I am now able to create new categories & items and edit existing ones. Yay!

I posted this on the google code page for JoomlaWorks, so I hope this gets addressed, in case -

a) it was an installation bug (SVN 2.5(RC) just didn't create the field & populate it in the db, or

b) this happens during Jupgrade for a lower version of K2 and then updating to v2.5 just doesn't create the field & populate it in those tables.

K2 for HTML 5? Joomla dead!

Category: English K2 Community

I am starting to do html 5 sites, and having to re-learn so many things, since I have been using joomla for several years. This is of course the future, as I see joomla eating itself alive.

The main reason I have looked at html5 sites is because they can be so refreshing after seeing every joomla site with a rotating slider, three or four categories featured below that,,,,etc etc on down the page.

Another thing is this upgrade to 1.6/1.7/1/8 that's going on. I am getting very tired of the issues, extension conflicts etc...And the cost of extensions is skyrocketing (especially if euro based) and the time consumed with constant upgrades, maintenance is eating my life away.

Anyway, joomla is looking at some serious issues that I think are insurmountable. Especially the upgrades...

Who knows of something like K2 that is usable in a simple html/php site?

What about K2 for html 5...that's the future here...joomla is dead.

k2_categories table has no language field in db - Joomla 1.6 with K2 SVN 2.5(RC)

Category: English K2 Community

I finally got upgraded (via Jupgrade) from Joomla v1.5.23 to 1.6.6, and installed the K2 SVN 2.5(RC) on the 1.6 site, which, thankfully is now acknowledged by J1.6 within the menu manager. This is a start but I'm having a strange issue that I hope someone can help me with:

I want to stress that the K2 content is in the j16_ database tables where it should be, I can see & access it within the admin area of the 1.6 site, but it's just not showing up on the front end at all. I think the major reason for this is because:

Each category's access column in the database j16_k2_categories is set to 0 instead of 1, when I try to change this for the parent category, I get a big db error, because:
There is no column for language, so when I try to change anything in the parent category (from which all others inherit their parameters (or any category), I get the following error:

TableK2Category: :store failedUnknown column 'language' in 'field list' SQL=UPDATE `j16_k2_categories` SET `name`='Library',`alias`='library-main',`description`=' **description went here**

',`parent`='0',`extraFieldsGroup`='1',`published`='1',`access`='1',`params`='{\"inheritFrom\":\"0\",\"theme\":\"\",\"num_leading_items\":\"2\",\"num_leading_columns\":\"1\",\"leadingImgSize\":\"Large\",\"num_primary_items\":\"4\",\"num_primary_columns\":\"2\",\"primaryImgSize\":\"Medium\",\"num_secondary_items\":\"4\",\"num_secondary_columns\":\"1\",\"secondaryImgSize\":\"Small\",\"num_links\":\"4\",\"num_links_columns\":\"1\",\"linksImgSize\":\"XSmall\",\"catCatalogMode\":\"0\",\"catFeaturedItems\":\"1\",\"catOrdering\":\"\",\"catPagination\":\"2\",\"catPaginationResults\":\"1\",\"catTitle\":\"1\",\"catTitleItemCounter\":\"1\",\"catDescription\":\"1\",\"catImage\":\"1\",\"catFeedLink\":\"1\",\"feedLink\":\"1\",\"subCategories\":\"1\",\"subCatColumns\":\"2\",\"subCatOrdering\":\"\",\"subCatTitle\":\"1\",\"subCatTitleItemCounter\":\"1\",\"subCatDescription\":\"1\",\"subCatImage\":\"1\",\"itemImageXS\":\"\",\"itemImageS\":\"\",\"itemImageM\":\"\",\"itemImageL\":\"\",\"itemImageXL\":\"\",\"catItemTitle\":\"1\",\"catItemTitleLinked\":\"1\",\"catItemFeaturedNotice\":\"0\",\"catItemAuthor\":\"1\",\"catItemDateCreated\":\"1\",\"catItemRating\":\"0\",\"catItemImage\":\"1\",\"catItemIntroText\":\"1\",\"catItemIntroTextWordLimit\":\"\",\"catItemExtraFields\":\"0\",\"catItemHits\":\"0\",\"catItemCategory\":\"1\",\"catItemTags\":\"1\",\"catItemAttachments\":\"0\",\"catItemAttachmentsCounter\":\"0\",\"catItemVideo\":\"0\",\"catItemVideoWidth\":\"\",\"catItemVideoHeight\":\"\",\"catItemVideoAutoPlay\":\"0\",\"catItemImageGallery\":\"0\",\"catItemDateModified\":\"0\",\"catItemReadMore\":\"1\",\"catItemCommentsAnchor\":\"1\",\"catItemK2Plugins\":\"1\",\"itemDateCreated\":\"1\",\"itemTitle\":\"1\",\"itemFeaturedNotice\":\"1\",\"itemAuthor\":\"1\",\"itemFontResizer\":\"1\",\"itemPrintButton\":\"1\",\"itemEmailButton\":\"1\",\"itemSocialButton\":\"1\",\"itemVideoAnchor\":\"1\",\"itemImageGalleryAnchor\":\"1\",\"itemCommentsAnchor\":\"1\",\"itemRating\":\"1\",\"itemImage\":\"1\",\"itemImgSize\":\"Large\",\"itemImageMainCaption\":\"1\",\"itemImageMainCredits\":\"1\",\"itemIntroText\":\"1\",\"itemFullText\":\"1\",\"itemExtraFields\":\"1\",\"itemDateModified\":\"1\",\"itemHits\":\"1\",\"itemTwitterLink\":\"1\",\"itemCategory\":\"1\",\"itemTags\":\"1\",\"itemShareLinks\":\"1\",\"itemAttachments\":\"1\",\"itemAttachmentsCounter\":\"1\",\"itemRelated\":\"1\",\"itemRelatedLimit\":\"5\",\"itemVideo\":\"1\",\"itemVideoWidth\":\"\",\"itemVideoHeight\":\"\",\"itemVideoAutoPlay\":\"0\",\"itemVideoCaption\":\"1\",\"itemVideoCredits\":\"1\",\"itemImageGallery\":\"1\",\"itemNavigation\":\"1\",\"itemComments\":\"1\",\"itemAuthorBlock\":\"1\",\"itemAuthorImage\":\"1\",\"itemAuthorDescription\":\"1\",\"itemAuthorURL\":\"1\",\"itemAuthorEmail\":\"0\",\"itemAuthorLatest\":\"1\",\"itemAuthorLatestLimit\":\"5\",\"itemK2Plugins\":\"1\"}',`language`='en-GB' WHERE id='23'

Even with the seo-friendly links turned on, J1.6 has /en/ within the links, so the language field in the k2_categories has to exist.

So clearly I need to add another field to not only the K2 categories, but where would it go? What I mean is where should I insert this field within that db table (in between something, at the end)? And would the items be able to be seen (retrieved properly) if it is only in the categories table after that?

Or do I need to execute a SQL query to insert it into the k2_items table as well?

It is worth noting that I do have a number of languages installed, but even before I installed them, all Joomla! categories & content are automatically listed as "Language - All."

Can someone please help me out with this?
