I agree with the general point of your response... And YES the modules etc have been fantastic. However, although i also offer clients choice based on the best information available (to me) at the time, I also feel it's a little redundant to give them a system that is out of date before it's even installed AND potentially has to be rebuilt in just a few months (alhtough it may be better for my bank balance).

 

Let's face it... I doubt even I directly would lose a client based on the fact they can't use K2 because in most cases we (as professionals) are hired to do a job that the client is most probably naive of (or they would probably would not require our services). BUT i think the main issue for most here is the not knowing... when (if ever) the non-beta K2 for Joomla 1.6+ will be released.

 

More than one of my current clients needs dictate use of a good Joomla CCK... And i can't hold them off endlessly waiting for the holy grail (which K2 once was). As a result i personally DO have to choose the pill... Do i find/learn a new CCK system

or

Do i install an old system only to have to do it again in the future (for which i just don't have the time)

 

If i didn't subscribe to the ataaw ethic i wouldn't even have commented in the first place... But my business (currently) doesn't run on hope ;-)

I am looking to add k2 to a site I am creating in 1.6. I am also planning to upgrade to 1.7 when all the extensions I use are upgraded to work with 1.7.  Is there a substitue for k2 for 1.6 while we wait for the release ?  I am mostly interested in adding comments to my articles. I found components that add video, audio, and other items. I still would like to have an all in one install/unistall extension.

As I understand it 1.7 is much the same as 1.6 but with tweaks and enhancements, it is supposed to be that sort of upgrade from now on rather than a big upgrade every year or so, just minor upgrades every 6 months.

Try using css4k2 from Jiliko.net and creating a overide_style.css for each category

or including k2.css in your templates css directories that will override the default k2.css

and make the changes there, so you wont loose all your changes on upgrade or reinstall

Depending on your template, they may have already put a copy of k2.css somewhere in the templates directory, check for that also

Using the Joomla arts template Rasite, K2 v2.4.1, joomla 1.5.23, mysql 5.1, php 5.3, hosted on rochen...
Was formally using the version of SIGpro 2.05 and it worked inside K2 articles fine...limited and sorta primitive but it worked for K2 articles...
Just read about the upgrade and it seemed to offer more versatility than the older version...I installed this new version and the site is totally DEAD, with nothing loading...

Then upon reading the forums, i find there are issues with the T3 framework...BUT according to support help and responses these issues were all handled with the latest updated release...

Not so...unfortunately, had to remove the plugin to get site back to operation, then re-installed the older version to find that all the K2 slideshow are SCRAMBLED>>>with no captions or anything other than defaults...

Since posting this I have got everything back in order with the old labels.txt now working again...however I still can only use the older version...

i recently upgraded my joomla 1.0.15 website to joomla 1.5.22. with this upgrade i installed k2 for the first time, so i'm new to k2. here comes my question:

 

in category view and in item view i would like to align the images to the left and show the text right next to it, so that it flows around the image on the right side and if there is enough text below it.

 

could somebody point me to where i have to go and edit to achieve this?

you could probably do multiple installs of joomla with k2 in subdomains to accomplish this, but

wouldnt there be the same number of categories and subcategories either way....?

For the us i would create 50 categoires, then under each of them i would create a few categoies with the same name under each of the 50

if you use multiple installs you will encounter multiple databases, extensions, plugins, upgrades, etc etc all more work

I have an issue with sig-pro 2.5.1, using joomla 1.5.22 / K2 2.4.1. It started when I activated the "mootools upgrade" plugin (required by Kunena).

When I click on an thumbnail, the modal with the full-size picture opens, but it is only cca. 200px wide, and the picture is 800px.

When I click on the image to move to the next image in the gallery, the next one is displayed OK (full-width).

I upgraded to v2.5.1. But it didn´t work jet.
I never got an upload in the fronend. But I think the Database counts the uploads, because in the galleries-folder the numbers of the gallerys (from Backend-uploads) are not continous but with gaps.

Has this happened several times already? Always or once every so?

Also make sure you upgrade to 2.5.1 of Simple Image Gallery Pro. ;)

Folks, I recant this bug report totally although am a little confused. I have gone back to 2.5SVN and all working again, redid the upgrade to 2.5 beta and not working. I changed my java version to an official repo (ubuntu user) and now both work fine.

 

Would there be a reason that the new version would not work fully on an open source jdk?

I have turned off all my css and js compression/caching to see if that could be the cause, so far nothing has changed though. If any of the devs could offer a spot of advice that would be great as I have not been able to update the site news for a day now and need to have it fixed asap.

 

Have there been changes to the k2 editor or any javascripts that could cause this?

Hi folks. I am not certain where this may be occuring as I have maximum error reporting turned on and no issues are showing but after I upgraded my 2.5 SVN to 2.5 beta today I am seeing no content panes for any of the tabs, just blank space beneath.

The sidebar also appears to have no styling but the accordion effect works to expand/contract the panes.

 

To me it looks as though the editor is not being given the chance to load but I am not really sure where to begin - J1.5.23 user currently (but trying beta as I need to get cracking on testing 1.6)

I'm probably not alone here. I am re-developing an active site. So, I created a development version of the site. I imported all of the content into K2, and redeveloped the site. But in the meanwhile, the site owners have continued updating their live site with dozens of new articles. 

 

The Question: How to I import just the latest articles into K2?

 

I already have all of the old content in K2. But there are dozens of new articles. I just want to bring those over to K2 so I can release the site.

 

I'm sure many others have had to upgrade a site that is under active development. What is the best practice for this sort of thing?

As far as your questions is concerned, the reason you are not getting many answers is that:

1.  This is a volunteer's forum for a free software... sometimes we do not have time to respond to everything (especially when it's been somewhat covered in other posts)

2. K2 2.5 (the only one supporting J!1.6) is still in beta.  When it comes out, I'm sure that there will be documentation on how to migrate from J!1.5 w/ K2 to J!1.6 w/ K2

3. Use the technique outlined in this post (except that you will want to upgrade your J!1.5/K2 to K2 2.5 beta before starting the exporting steps)

Hey Nick, Did you manage to move your K2 items and images etc to wordpress? I will personally be happy if i knew how to move just the items. My site was hacked a couple days ago and yes I'm still on 1.5. I would of loved to upgrade to 1.6 but like everyone else, I'm still waiting on K2. I ask myself why didn't I continue using Super Blogger. Why did I migrate all of 3 years worth of content to K2. Why did I leave wordpress in the first place. SMH
