List itemsin category only if they contain a tag?

I think you got it wrong here Brian.
You might need to display tags based on categories.
By mapping certain tags to menu items you can limit the results to these views to certain categories/y .

As for events, I think you can do this for free with default K2 items (-1 extension, -extra load on your site).

You can handle all the dates with extrafields. You can use different ordering and a different template as well.
The only catch is that you would need a K2 plugin so you can have ordering by extrafields (for the dates).

Another way around it, would be that the created date is the event's date and the published date is the current day.
I think it is worth a try.

Hi, I could not view your page. I got the following

403: Access Forbidden

Your location (DE) has been blacklisted.

I think I sort of have things working now with the Multiple Categories plugin. But now I am trying to see how I can control display. For instance, when someone clicks Working Groups, they will see

[Description]
[Documents for the group]
[News for the group]
[Events for the group]

But this is not with tags. I agree, tags would be better. But with K2, to display items in category view based on tags is awkward. If as you say it is easier through a menu, then I would need to somehow render a menu's output to the category page. Do you know if that is possible?

On unrealted note, I just realized there are no free event management extensions for K2, which is messing up my current JEvents. So in the end I may have o just revert to Joomla Articles though I really like K2!

I would create each item and tag them something like "docs"
in your menu create a top level menu item that is a text separator called "Work Groups" then below that create menu items to display K2 tags. one called "documents". If you go to one of my sites www.studenthousingbusiness.com the menu item The latest news is a category that all the news articles are in. Then the other menu items below that display articles based on K2 tags. This way they are all Latest news but then you can drill down to specific categories inside the latest news. Work groups doesn't necessarily NEED to be a category, it could just be a menu separator that links a bunch of related content into a single menu.

Joomla tags not importing -Wish there was batch ad

Category: English K2 Community

I just did an import from my old joomla articles. I have set up a menu item with a drop down of articles for specific tags.
The problem is that the import created tags out of the old metadata and keywords from the old joomla articles and did not import the joomla tags.

Is there a way to associate the joomla tags with K2 tags?
I batch added all the tags in joomla since K2 does not have a batch add function. If it did then I could just batch proccess the k2 articles. easy peasy.

My other solution is to go into 1200 articles and manually tag them Ug!
Anyone know how to import the joomla tags and not the keyword/meta data?

Yes it can be done Brian.
Map this tag in a menu item and select the categories you want it to pull items from.

K2 does not offer any shortcodes but you can render other plugin's shortcodes inside its fulltext.

The K2 content module does not display items by tags by default. There are however several extensions for this posted at the JED or getk2.org/extend/extensions

Hi Krikor,

Is there a way to have it so that only a category AND a given tag are displayed? So otherwise, to display items that have category 1 AND tag 1.

By the way, are there existing content plugins so that I can do something in an item itself, like {loadk2content |id=2|someotherparam=value}

Thanks for helping me with all this!!!

Kind Regards,
Brian

Not really Brian,

You can create a menu item towards K2 tags or K2 Categories.
K2 items can also be included in menus but this is an overkill if you have a large number of docs.
You can list them using a K2 Content module instead.

List itemsin category only if they contain a tag?

Category: English K2 Community

Hi, I am sure there is a way to do this in K2, just not sure how. This is related to my previous post. I have a category- Working Groups - for which there will be various items. News, Documents. At the same time, I need Documents to be standalone so that I can list them irrespective of the Working Groups. So I decided to create document category and subcats. Now in Working Group category view, I want to be able to list the documents associated with a group. But since the documents are categorized as documents (otherwise I would have to add so many categories...such as WG-Docs-Doc1, etc, etc, etc which would negate the purpose of Docs being standalone) I need to use a tag or something so that in the WG category view it knows to display something from Category Documents which contains tag Working Group 1, for instance.

Any ideas?

One item per attachment, and tag that item.

I have experimented with Attachments, but there is no way to tag attachments as far as I can tell, I mean tag an attachment that is in an item. Unless you mean, create a unique item that is itself an attachment. Ah, ok, maybe that is the trick!

thanks

Thank you for the reply. And then I take it, if I want to have a documents page, K2 will allow me to create a page using the document tagging I used to create the taxonomy?

I think the best way to handle the docs would be through K2 Attachments. Attach this doc to a corresponding item and the you need a second taxonomy. One that describes the doc. You can use K2's tags for that.

How would I organize this site with K2?

Category: English K2 Community

Hi,

I am new to joomla and am designing a site for an int'l organization, whose work is organized around working groups. The groups produce papers in several categories that I want to to upload and associate with groups. Also there will be news and events associated with the groups, or across groups, etc. Here are some basics of the structure I have in mind:

- Group pages: I guess these would be K2 items? Would I use categories or tags? On each group page, a user would see
[Description]
[News] - which can display not just on group category, but tags as well in order to capture news from other groups that have related news.
[Documents] - this would be a listing of the documents, which like news, could be common across several categories.
[doctype1] - list docs
[doctype2] etc

Right now the groups don't have many documents, so for now I just want the docs appearing on the group page without the user having to click on another page to see the group's docs.

[Events] - list of events for group, again, could be common across several groups

- Documents: I have been experimenting with phocadownload - this seems to organize the docs pretty well, but lack of module support and few plugins is making it tough to customize display and I just noticed that maybe K2 can do this natively? So there would be main doc page, with listing such as

[WG 1]
[doctype 1] list docs
[doctype 2] list docs
[WG 2]
[doctype 1] list docs
[doctype 2] list docs

There are times when a doc is solely for one group, such as a factsheet. Other times, there could be commonalities, but in this view I just want things categorized by group. Then the page would have a view switching option, so that one can also view by doc type:

[Doc type1] (e.g. fact sheets)
WG 1 Fact sheet
WG 2 Fact sheet
[Doc type2] (e.g. background paper)
WG1 background paper
WG2 background paper
etc

In general, I really don't know how to categorize docs to make above doable. Right now I have them in their own parent-child categorization, but this is making the linkage to groups tough... Should docs be a category, or should a working group be parent category and then have docs under there? Or would tags solve this?

- News: news is a category, but would display based on tags as well

- Events (using JEvents, but it does not seem to support event signup)

Front page would have latest news, with display options (slider, or news descriptions, etc)

Sidebars have several modules to display latest documents, events

I think K2 can do all this, just need some pointers. And if the component can't quite get the display how I want it, would I use K2 plugins?

Your guidance (and recommended extensions) is vastly appreciated.

Brian

Date filter on Category View

Thank you for that suggestion. Sadly I have already been using most of that methodology for the past 4 years on this site. At present I have the date of the event as an extra field and use 'publish_down' to have k2 automatically remove the event from the front-end. The disadvantage of this is that the page, with all the work it has done for the SEO, disappears completely. This reason is also, sadly, why having the user move the event is not going to work. Firstly we're adding a website management step into the process, which is counter-intuitive, and secondly this would change the url from abc.zzz/events/werwer to abc.zzz/past-events/werwer and would, therefore, require a redirect to be implemented (2 new stages and many more admin sessions).

I am already using a core hack for this site as that puts the control of the "complex" aspects back in my hands. I update the site and can immediately check to see if my hack still works. The present hack is simple enough as all it does is exchange 'r_alpha' sorting to be 'publish_down' to give perfect ordering of the events.

I have already tried to utilise the K2Tools archive function to do this and succeeded in having it interrogate the db with publish_down the only problem was that the item had "expired". If I could find a way to cancel the expiry but leave the date in the database then I could use a custom SQL query to retrieve items moving forwards or backwards and then the items just stay exactly where they are, never unpublished, keeping their search engine ranking and increasing the number of landing pages for the site. Basically I need to simplify the system and then make unique SQL queries based off now (much like the function in K2Tools archive) to achieve the front-end results needed.

Any hints as to where the syntax is that unpublishes/expires an item?

Tagging Items Issue

Category: English K2 Community

Folks,

I have setup a series of tags that we are using for our K2 Items. We are using J3.3.6 and K2 v2.6.8. The tags display fine in the Available tags dropdown. The problem is that when we select a tag in the Available tags and click Add, I would expect to see that tag display in the Selected tags area. It does not appear until I click Save. If I select multiple tags from Available tags and Click Add, only the first one comes across and again, that tag will not appear in Selected tags until I click Save. The same thing happens when I attempt to remove tags. Is this the way it is supposed to work? Do I have a setting wrong? Any help would be appreciated. It's driving my users crazy. By the way, I have the Available tags locked.

Thanks in advance for the help!
Joe

Then you need to edit the default template of K2 and the user.php file.
getk2.org/documentation/tutorials/174-templating-with-k2-and-the-concepts-of-sub-templates

This will enforce the new template to all users.

As for the breadcrumbs and urls; you can create a new K2 category menu and leave it blank. All the orphan tags and users will be rendered through this menu item.

[SOLVED] Unable to load user with ID

Category: English K2 Community

Hi,
I am using Joomla 3.3.6 and K2 v2.6.8.
I recently migrated my K2 database to a new Joomla installation using PHPMyAdmin.
Now, when I do a tag or category search, I get this error message:

Warning
JUser: :_load: Unable to load user with ID: 575

I changed the ID of the current Joomla Super User and K2 User to 575 in PHPMyAdmin.
The error message stopped but then I could no longer Login to the Admin using the current Super User.
How can I fix this so the current Joomla Super User can have the ID the old K2 items and login to the Admin?
Thanks!
