Are you on Mac ?
I've had this problem, untill I noticed cyberduck upload some file labeled .filename.jpg
Theses files are 4kb sized and are useless on your web server, so you can, normally, delete them

I got the same error. I'm working with MAMP on mac (local). I first tried the free version and got the black thumbnails issue. Bought the pro and get the "Problem copying original"...
Any help, the team ?? Thanks !!
(I checked the php.ini memory allocation. It's set to 20 Mo)

I have a number of galleries on my site, but two pictures produce the "problem copying original" error message in the thumbnail view of the gallery. If they are the last image to display in thumbnail view, all others show. If they are not the last, no thumbnails after the problem image are shown (in thumbnail view, or if gallery is launched).
These pictures will open in any viewer program I use, so I am stumped.
Any help is greatly appreciated

I am about to give up this plugin because it seems sooo unreliable to me - never know what to expect. Its great when it works but I am using it for a site now and I randomly get the error: "Problem copying original" and the article only displays some of the pictures, it doesn't show all of them... All the pictures have the same extension .jpg and technically everything is right but the plugin is not reading the folders right, this problem is happening with several different folder. I have encountered other issues such as not ordering the images by alphabetical order when its supposed to and its becoming a major frustration. I hope there's a solution to this error showing up when there's nothing wrong with the images.
Help please - sincerely i am not very satisfied with this plugin after paying for it.

I had the problem, used what potdeyahourt said and looked at my hidden files. It turned out that I had hidden image files ._picturefilename.jpg. I didn't need those and as soon as I deleted them, my problem went away. I also had a hidden ._labels file as well. I opened that and it was pretty illegible but for some reason (and I have been using this FTP program) it said Cyberduck in it. Totally strange. I don't know if it's a bug in cyberduck or something else (I'm going to have to do some messing around). But I was able to, at least temporarily, remedy the problem. And if this happens again I will definitely be looking to see if I got those funky hidden files again.

It seems I am having the same issue. But for me the picture still shows and the thumbnail still enlarges in the window.
It is simply that pesky message.
"Problem copying original"
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My pro version is not showing anything at the moment. The free version works perfectly though.
- I checked my permissions
- Well jpeg-ified pictures
- Nothing wrong with caps
- No use of Cyberduck a.o.
Anyone?

The version of Simple Image gallery pro is v2.0.5.
Did you solve the problem ? And how ?
Thanks in advance

I have this problem too, looking there and solved. I try explain this;
- [First] in folder, all files view perfectly. in image viewers (i use irfanview) too. no errors. but, still error response...
1- I'm move all .jpg files in gallery folder to another folder. (all of them only .jpg files)
2- Try part of files to move original folder and find problem file(s). (first 1 to 10th images and check site front page gallery link, if no error try next part 11 to 20th images etc...)
i found my problem file. its "image21.jpg" ....
3- move this file to desktop, open IrfanView image viewer (or someone else) and save to .bmp file ("image21.bmp") to desktop. (i try before: a- resize orginal image and save again overwrite original file, b- save %90 quality again overwrite original file, dont work both of them. i think re-encode another file formats, example .bmp file)
4- delete original problemed file "image21.jpg". and open new bmp file "image21.bmp" in image viewer, save again to .jpg "image21.jpg" (i choose original filename).
5- move new jpg files to gallery folder and its works !! :)
I think this reason in encode-decode problems in .jpg files. maybe digital photo machines etc. reason this.
I wish this usefully. Thanks all buddys. Sorry for insufficent english.

has the same date as the original? With FARs defaults the folder
gets the current system date...
ExampeDir (1.1.2001) -> COPY: ExampleDir (8.12.2010)
I couldn't find the option in case there is one. Thanks a lot!
