I'm a joomla newbie.
I'm running a test joomla on my local pc through a Wamp server. Everything is going smooooothly but...
I installed this wonderful plugin but when I display the page where I inserted the gallery I simply see:

{gallery}test{gallery}

I checked:

• The Simple Image gallery mambot is published
• The GD library extension is installed and enabled
• The folder test contains some jpeg and is located under images/stories/

From phpinfo() I see:

Looking at your code, you are missing a backslash.  It should be:

{gallery}test{/gallery}

???  :o  :-[ :'( :(  >:( 

That's incredible. I've read the instructions hundreds times without noticing the closing slash. I was thinking a floating point error on my pentium  ;)
