Hi I have a bbc feed url www.bbc.co.uk/portuguese/index.xml that works on Joomla 1.5.
I now have Joomla 3; and with the same feed url no feeds are displayed.

I am using Simple RSS Feed Reader Module v3.3.

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

It seems like PHP cannot parse this feed. The error i am getting is "simplexml_load_string(): Entity: line 1: parser error : attributes construct error" . Can you try to use a different feed and see if that works?

does this mean this feed url www.bbc.co.uk/portuguese/index.xml has some issue ?

Yes, probably something is wrong with some characters in the first feed.

I have tried the same feed url www.bbc.co.uk/portuguese/index.xml on "Light RSS" (extensions.joomla.org/extensions/extension/social-web/social-display/light-rss) which displays feeds with no problem.

Omg thank you bickyz, I had a similar problem to yours and I tried installing "Light RSS" and now the feed i was trying to display works! I am getting a buckton of errors but it appears that they are caused by all the fields that I have set to 'no' , so ill just disable the errors messages from showing for now.
