Like romagromov above, the only difference this time was that I installed a few other things first: xmap and jce editor. I also enabled "Use URL rewriting" in the Joomla global config.
This fixed it for me, thanks "ME" !
ME wrote: Got same crazy deal on J2.5.11 (updated from 1.7.3):
No K2 menu-points shown in Joomla 2.5 administrator menu "Components"
Anyway everything looked fine in the database...
Not sure what did fix it:
I went to the Extensions Manager -> Manage
Filtred by "K2"
Unpublished the K2 (component) -> check-marked the unpublished component
Clicked "Refresh cache" -> Published the K2 component again
and I got my K2 menuitems in the admin components menu
:woohoo:
Which of the above steps did it I do not know...
Hope it might work for others

K2 v2.6.7
Latest Xmap Component
I had the same problem: K2 menu item was not showing in backend.....
I had also installed the Xmap Component. I followed all of the instructions above w/o any luck :(
Finally I followed the istruction referring to Xmap Component and Voila :)
It worked fine ! ! !
Go to Components / Xmap and from the Extensions link enable the Xmap - K2 Plugin
That of course, applies to those that have Xmap installed.
