Are referring to the category selection in the item edit form, upon adding a new item from the frontend?

After clicking "Add item to this category" in category view, the category IS NOT selected in the editing form (see screenshots)...

Okay, so the button-text should be adjusted to "Add new item"...
I'm going to delete this button in the category.php and create different menu-items for the categories...

Direct menu items will indeed allow you to preset the category.
