[SOLVED] Decimal point in a tag disappears - k2 2.6 version

Category: English K2 Community

Hello,

I have been using tags like $4.99.
However, it appears that since the latest K2 upgrade, if I add the tag containing a decimal point to a k2 item, a new tag is created without a decimal point, and the item is tagged with the wrong item.

Please see e.g. this page: www.cottagecarpets.ca/tag/cad-4-to-4.99.html. The tags that were added to k2 items before are working. But if there is a new item I need to tag with CAD 4 to 4.99 per sq, as I try to tag the item a new, CAD 4 to 499 per sqft tag is created and that is the tag the given k2 item gets tagged with.

Thank you,
Tom

Export item K2 joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5 or 3.0

Category: English K2 Community

Hello chellofr,

K2 supports both 2.5.x and 3.x so that won't be an issue.
Personally I still favour 2.5 but this is a personal choice and it is up to much debate.
I find the UI more familiar to work with. You can try both versions since 2.5 will be supported until 2014.

On the other hand since you are using extensions like Inceptive Image Gallery for K2 you have to make sure that they are 2.5.x or 3.0.x, 3.x compatible.

To make a long story short you should make sure your extensions support the current versions of Joomla! and then choose which version to use.

PS. In the meanwhile upgrade to 1.5.26 and remember to backup first before doing anything.

I guess the main thing is it would take me 5 minutes to fix it myself and hours of effort to work with a plugin. Making a plugin is only something to do over time, I work at a web design studio so having something made like that can prove useful.

We have to launch the site monday, so we have voted to not be picky about it yet and just leave it as is. We will make a revision to fix it later.

I do know the 301's will not be through the htaccess, but to reference them all through standard Joomla it is 1 database row per item. for 15 thousand items with 20 different url's that is 285 thousand database rows (300 thousand if it has a new url that is not referenced by one of them)

Even one that automatically does it would have extra queries to find out if it is improper, witch in the case of a large site like this will cause overhead. Eventually leading to scaling problems (having to upgrade hardware before it is normally needed). Although this option is much more useful (my argument could be over thinking), it is still one I would like to avoid if possible.

as for sh404, it seems to have problems if it is not done on a fresh install, as it depends on default functionality and we end up "trimming the fat" in every site we do. What I mean by that is that we never have had a use for k2's default layouts and always have to change them to using twitter bootstrap (we do responsive web design). This leads to sometimes confusing Joomla from what we have noticed.

Most plugins we end up buying, then never using as they say they do what we need, but after extensive testing we end up making something ourselves. One of the inconveniences to Joomla that no one but us can be blamed for, we are picky. K2 is actually the only plugin that allows us to still be picky, as it is made as a base to be changed to suit the needs of the user (though the lack of documentation has always been a problem).

Another problem with plugins is forcing more Javascript, almost every plugin that loads something in the frontend seems to add jQuery, in most cases with no option to turn it off, witch overrides our latest version of jQuery we use and even deleting jQuery UI. K2 gives an option to turn it off, witch is something most other plugins lack. If a plugin adds jQuery without an option to disable it, it is always a plugin that we can never use.

You don't need to test plugins for us, we can probably find a way around this at some point.

I am starting to go into a little to much detail, sorry for the long read.

Erratic Order behavior

Hello Cedric,

There is a setting for this, but by default it's disabled by default for better performance.

On the advanced tabs of K2 params you need to set Disable ordering compacting to yes.
Please note that if you have a large amount of articles (several hundred or thousands) this might affect your performance.

PS. You should backup and upgrade to 2.5.11 asap for security reasons.

Hello Marcos,

You can safely upgrade but you will have to update your templates. You will at least have to update the k2_user module and the profile.php and register.php.

I think it would be better to use Admin Tools to upgrade to Joomla! 3.0 instead of migrating the content. You always grab all of K2's tables and media folder and move them but then again you will have to move your users and other core stuff as well.

PS. Always backup first!

Yes, I meant reinstalling Joomla! and K2 once more in case some file was corrupted.

As long you have not hacked the core or using any version specific extensions you can try upgrading, the only work you might need is to upgrade your templates. Grab a new version of K2 and compare you templates, you will probably only have to change the user forms.

404 item links after server migration with Akeeba

Category: English K2 Community

Hello Krikor,

thank you very much for your post.

We don´t have any SEO/SEF component, although we´re using Joomfish.

We don´t have the latest version of K2, because the site was developed some time ago and there was some customization, so we are afraid that the upgrade could 'break' the site. As the site was working Ok in the previous server, we are trying to leave the upgrade solution as the last resource because it may mean a lot of work.

When you say setup your filesystem again do you mean re-installing Joomla?

Thanks again!
Ro.

Category: Comunidad hispana oficial de K2

Hola,

K2 Camera Slider - Not working after update

Category: English K2 Community

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. We have Joomla 2.5.11 running with K2 2.6.6. After the upgrade, it would appear that the slider function is not working...

www.xcaliburfieldhockey.com

I have checked to make sure there are published articles and everything is enabled, but there is either an incompatibility that I am unaware of or I am missing something. I do know that there was an issue with the jQuery Easy update at the same time, but I don't know if the two are related. The latest version of jQuery Easy was installed over top since it wasn't updating properly.

I did note that there is at least one other post that said that the K2 Camera Slider version did not update to 2.6.6 for them and I can confirm that mine has not update either. It stayed at 2.5.7.

If I need to rollback K2 to the previous version to get the slider back, can anyone tell me how that is safely done?

Thanks,

Tony

Hello Abe,

From what I see in your site you are using a commercial template. These templates provide template overrides for K2. The problem lies with your overrides and not K2 changing anything in it's recent versions.

Finally before doing any major upgrades you should backup first and read the appropriate blog posts to find out if there are template file changes.

Now when i try to add a new K2 item I get this:

1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ')}' at line 1 SQL=SELECT `catid` FROM jml_k2_additional_categories WHERE `itemID` = {intval()}

Tried reinstalling K2 but have not been able to get round the error.

That can also be caused be a non J! 2.5 compatible extension.

If you know your way around db's you should start a clean install and migrate the K2 content,
you can also try activating/deactivating extension to find out which is causing you issues.

Hello Bas,

A) You should upgrade to Joomla! 2.5.11
b) From what I can see your template already has the desired functionality.
If you still want to override it you must read the documentation section, it has a very interesting article on overriding first.

TAG selector options disappeared in TAG Menu

Category: English K2 Community

Hello,

I have a site where the menu items at the top are the k2 tag type.

In the back end of the site where in the past in the menu edit screen I select the drop down to select the TAG to use for the menu item, this now does not display any of the available tags??

I am running Joomla 3.1.1 on php 5.4.14 and this issue is both on K2 2.6.5 & 2.6.6

The site is running on the gantry framework which is 4.1.10

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards
Stuart

*** Update ***
Having re-installed some old backups, the error has appeared after the Joomla upgrade from 3.0.3 to 3.1.1. So not specifically a K2 bug as the version of K2 was 2.5.5 but if anyone has a solution it would be great as the new joomla update is a security release

Hello Jason,

I might be mistaken but /home/content/95/9777595/html/ does not appear to be a valid path.
Check the path to your logs and tmp folder in your configuration.php folder, then reinstall K2.

PS. You should upgrade to 2.5.11
