You could use K2.

You can create a K2 content module and then use tags.

If you tag everything in one category with one tag, and then everything in another category with another tag, and one item has both tags, then if you do two K2 content modules based on tags, you would receive the item for both tags.

If you use the menu item, you will link directly to the K2 content category you select.

If you use the K2 content module, you will create a module. A module is the same in all aspects of Joomla. It displays in one of the module positions. That module could be placed next to other content for example, or other items which are not K2 items.

A further benefit of the K2 module is that you will be able to have greater control, for example by displaying K2 items by tag.

ich bin Joomla Newbie, habe aber Erfahrung mit Wordpress und Typo3. Meine CSS und PHP Kenntnisse sind allerdings ziemlich begrenzt. Mit Wordpress habe ich eine reine Content Seite gebaut (tauchen-am-meer.de), aber meine nächste Site soll etwas komplexer werden.

Ich möchte ein Verzeichnis von PDF Dokumenten bauen, die in diverse Kategorien unterteilt sind. Auf der Homepage will ich die Hauptkategorien mit Icon, Kurzbeschreibung und den jeweiligen Tochterkategorien anzeigen. In den Tochterkategorien dann die tatsächlichen Content Items, d.h. die Beschreibung des PDF Dokuments plus Link zur Detailseite. Auf der Detailseite dann weitere Infos und einen Download-Link.

Nach einigen Tagen experimentieren mit Joomla bin ich bei K2 gelandet. Die Katalogansicht auf demo.getk2.org/en/catalog ist ziemlich genau was ich brauche. Leider habe ich es bisher nicht geschafft sie nachzubauen.

Ich habe in K2 die Kategorien angelegt und mit Icons und Beschreibung versehen. Dann habe ich mit dem K2 Tools Module eine "Category List" angelegt und einer Position zugewiesen. Mein Problem: Ich bekomme nur die Kategorietitel als Link angezeigt inkl. der Zahl der darin enthaltenen Items. Das sieht demo.getk2.org/en/catalog leider noch nicht mal entfernt ähnlich. Meinen aktuellen Stand könnt ihr hier sehen: b2b-whitepaper.com

can I Import catagories from Joomla 1.7 to K2 and content somehow? one other thing can I make items go into more then one category?

Just got reply from another Joomla forum... Have resolved this thing and thought to share it here as well.

There is a plugin called "Content Hider" developed by Dioscouri's which does the thing for K2 articles!!

Once the plugin is installed and enabled then you can use the following:

{pub} Any content (even HTML) contained within these will be public {/pub}

{reg} Any content here will be the content displayed only to visitors who are actually logged in {/reg}

One of the advantages of this even over the Joomla default behavior is that the {pub} content will NOT be visible once the visitor is logged in. This allows you to put a call to action (like "please register or a puppy will die every 10 minutes until you do") which will disappear once they are logged in.

I'm having the same problem. I can see a list of everything else (tags, users, usergroups, extra fields and extrafield groups, but not items or categories. I've opened a new topis as I hadn't found this one. Likewise I'm on Joomla! 1.7.3.
I've checked all permissions and access levels and list filters. They seem to be OK. I've checked the database and the items and categories are there.
I've set up a menu item to list all the categories on the front-end and that appears to work well. I'm stuck now. Anyone any ideas?

I just purchased and downloaded Simple Image Gallery Pro. I tried uploading a gallery into an item I have in the K2 section of my site but got the following error message "There was a problem rendering your image gallery. Please make sure that the folder you are using in the Simple Image Gallery Pro plugin tags exists and contains valid image files. The plugin could not locate the folder: media/k2/galleries/6"

All i have done is uploaded the Simple Image Gallery Pro and enabled it and made sure the settings are the same as in the documentation. Not sure what to do next. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone know of an integrated component or plug-in tab solution that works directly with K2 to show tabbed content on K2 pages?

I've seen several module solutions that show K2 content in a tabs module on your homepage or wherever, but I'm having a dandy of a time finding a tabs solution that integrates directly into K2 content pages to show the tabs on your actual K2 content pages.

I'm hoping I don't have to use a non-K2 related tabs solution and build them all out as independent modules and use the {loadposition} tag to place them into my K2 page content. That really makes content management a headache.

Appreciate any and all suggestions.

I am writing this after extensive testing, reading lot of forums on K2 ...

K2 first of all is excellent... you may ask then whats your problem?

problem that I am going to list is faced by everyone using K2...

1. Search - complete failure...

• cant search by tags.
• cant search by category.
• cant search by username.
• above all when there is no search result just displays a empty page.(most irritating thing for any user).

2. Multiple Extra field for single category.
this will be helpful to add rich details to products. right now its not there in k2.
(Eg.. if I am building a stock image site , then I will publish an image (photograph) and add extra fields like
Extra Field 1: Image Formats - jpg, tga, gif
Extra Field 2: License - Commercial, Non-Commercial.)

3. when the tags are clicked it filters the articles by tags, but the tag is not associated with any itemid, so the results are displayed on page where the modules disappear.

4. Ability to include items in multiple categories.

5. mod_k2_content - it will be nice if included different display formats. ability to display the items in table format.

OK, so maybe K2 and I just aren't ment to be. After posting the article above I went back to my site - just to double check - again.
I haven't made any changes to it the last 24 houres, but now it works! WTF? I even made a reboot to make sure everything was clean and running!

I've been working on K2 item for the last couple of days, having some trouble with the related item by tag feature, getk2.org/community/New-to-K2-Ask-here-first%21/2074-Related-items-by-tag-problem. After I posted that tags stopped working all together. No comma or Return seems to work.

I haven't modified anything except setting K2 tools back to factory settings and I've tried disabeling firefox addons like firebug and web developer.

I'm I missing something in the settings or?

I am setting up a site where registered users can publish items (frontend). Everything is going great and K2 is AMAZINGLY powerful, but in development I have run across a couple things and not sure if it is possible at this stage.

Limit Amount of Tags Allowed On A Single Item?
- I have made a template and I am afraid if someone goes crazy with item tagging that it could completely break my template (I understand I can turn this off but I have set Tags to be displayed on Category Item View Page).

Admin approval after user Edits an item?
- My website will allow registered users to view, comment and edit all items in specific categories. Though I understand this may be frowned upon by many of you, it is absolutely necessary with my circumstances. What I am worried about, though a low possibility, is a user editing a bunch of items and inserting useless information or worst-- deleting information/pictures.

If either or both of these are not possible, does anyone have any work around suggestions?

You could you the K2 content module for that. In fact 3 K2 content modules configured to display items sorted by your criteria. The 3 modules could be displayed in tabs via another extension (maybe via your Joomla! template feature).

2. Is there an auto readmore plugin for K2.

you can either have 1 editor window in your item and then you have to set the readmore tag manually or have 2 editor windows (introtext/fulltext) and then the readmore is set implicitely. This depends on your K2 global configuration.

I've never heard of searching for an article by location! There is an extension to use Google Maps to give you directions to somewhere, so I don't know if you think that might help, I believe it only has one location however.

The best option I can think of is perhaps doing a search by tags and perhaps tagging states/counties and letting people choose from a list of those?

I've got several items with the same tags, but it doesn't show up in the "Related items" box - in the source I can see the li's but no content. Do I need to set it up somewhere? I've been through tons of posts and in one there's talk about "K2 tools module", but I can't seem to get it configured right.
Any suggestions?

I am doing a project - gavick.csn2011go.com - using the WN2 from GavickPro and they have done an excellent job integrating K2 V2.5.1 in this template.

I am using: Joomla! 1.7.2, K2 V2.5.1 and the World News II template (demo.gavick.com/joomla16/jul2011/ ).

I have some issues with category templating (override?), but first let me give you some background information on the project before I state my issues under point 5:

1. Caribseek News is a news portal of the Wider Caribbean covering news about all the Caribbean islands and news about the Caribbean countries in the rest of the World. We are a news integrator.

2. To that end, we have set-up many menu items: Caribbean, Worldwide, Themes, etc.

3. Under the Caribbean menu item you will find the Caribbean Countries: Caribbean Region, Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, etc.

4. When you install WN2, you get a Homepage, a category, a tag and item templates; examples:

i. homepage: gavick.csn2011go.com
ii. category page: gavick.csn2011go.com/index.php/caribbean/dominican-republic
iii. tag page: gavick.csn2011go.com/index.php/global-caribbean/wider-caribbean/united-states-of-america

In summarizing, my issues are:

I. How do I assign each category (and tag) the WN2 homepage template;
II. How do I add modules to a category and its item pages independent of each other.

I need help.
