Can't install K2 on joomla 1.6

Category: English K2 Community

Thank you for all your answers.

I've thinking about using Joomla 1.6 but I have realised that there are still few components and modules to use with. As it is said that will be easy to migrate all K2 information to Joomla 1.6 I will use Joomla 1.5 by now. I like the way K2 can be used (extra fields works like having a articles templates in Joomla what makes it really helpful to me). Tags are really useful too.

(Scott, Yootheme has also updated 19 templates to Joomla 1.6)

Can't install K2 on joomla 1.6

Category: English K2 Community

I've been playing around with 1.6 release and it seems stable... but of course the problem is that few extensions are ready.    I was fairly impressed by Joomlart's effort to be ready with some of their templates and extensions today.    Certainly extension vendors that move fastest will get a good marketing bump.

As for K2, instead of asking for a release date commitment, I actually would like a K2 statement of directions.    With its nested catagories support, a lot in Joomla 1.6 changes.     Besides adding field groups for catagories, what else will K2 be doing to extend Joomla 1.6 functionality?   A statement of direction would help loyal K2 users plan for the future (as I currently have a new website to development and feel stuck.)

2. i solved the image alignment issue by using onecss4k2 and editing the div.catItemImageBlock and increasing the hight tag to 12em. I had images with different sizes some square and some rectangular. This may work for you. Try changing it with firebug (if your not using onecss4k2 it will show you k2.css) and see what happens.

Menu by Tag is not filtering Category

Category: English K2 Community

I just updated to v2.4.1 but the filter is still not working.  I rechecked the menu item, which is set to select all tags "testimonials" and only Articles in "Email updates" and "Newsletters" but instead the link is still going to a page with all articles tagged "testimonials."  Screenshot attached and the link is this (sustainableharvest.org/en/programs/program-overview) the "Testimonial" menu item on the right side.

Thanks for having a look, Renée

Sub Categorized Contacts

Category: English K2 Community

Hi,

I am writing a mental health site and I want to build a contact database for people to use.  As such I would have a Category of Mental Health Contacts and then sub-categories for Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar etc.

I would like to use a K2 Category menu item to link to Mental Health Contacts, then show the sub-categories on that page and then people could click to go to the particular Mental Health issue contacts they were seeking.  Not sure how to actually display the contacts at this stage, but I imagine using Additional Fields in K2.

Any suggestions as to the best way of handling this would be very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Ric

HUGE Thanks to cliffclof for the code and Patrick for telling us where to add it in 2.4.1! Thank you thank you thank you. Works perfectly as long as you don't have duplicate tags (silly me)

Patrick said:

thanks cliffclof! works in 2.4.1 as well.

in administrator/components/com_k2/models/item.php my line 787 now reads

$query .= " WHERE tags.id NOT IN (SELECT tagID FROM #__k2_tags_xref WHERE itemID=".(int)$itemID.")ORDER BY tags.name";

exactly what i needed!

Problem with homepage modules/content appearing in K2 subcatagory pages

Category: English K2 Community

for example:-

This new catagory:- www.crudepixel.com/Toys

is laid out how I want, however, if I select an article from that section, I then have the same module positions as the homepage, which is not what I want?!

What am I missing here?

Problem with homepage modules/content appearing in K2 subcatagory pages

Category: English K2 Community

Hello

I`m quite new to K2, and really enjoying how its opened up my content.

One thing that is causing me ongoing problems though is where I create catagorys and subcats and link to them, sometimes (most of the time) these subcat pages inherit the modules and layout of the homepage, sometimes they dont!

There does not seem to be any logic to it.

I`m sure I`m perhaps missing something fundamental here, but I`m struggling to control what extra (joomla) modules/content appear on pages that contain K2 content!

Does anyone have any suggestions?!

Thanks.

How to remove text "Published in Category" |Read more" at the bottom of each item that displays with a menu item based on a tag?

Thank you for the quick response. That solved the problem.

Hide extra field if value is empty

Category: English K2 Community

The hide unused extra field text file posted doesn't appear to work with html fields because the html output of an empty field is <a href="http://></a>. I use this instead for the if statement:

<?php $value_test = strip_tags($extraField->value); if(!empty($value_test)) : ?>

Odd search results

Category: English K2 Community

Hi,

Stefano here. Expert Joomla user but relatively new to K2.

I noticed that search results may be a bit strange.

In particular for our website (training), when I type Premiere in the search field, it returns as first result and iPhone course, not a Premiere course. Actually Premiere is not even among the results.

I wonder what criteria it follows, as obviously we did not add Premiere tag to iPhone course, as well as the word Premiere does not appear in the course description.

Take a look at this:

lab.edu.sg/search.html?searchword=premiere

Any idea?

Regards

Stefano

K2 Comments: Where is My Comment Form?

Category: English K2 Community

I've been working on this one for a couple of days and can't seem to figure out what is wrong.

In short I'd like to use K2 Comments, but I can't see the form to enter comments anywhere, on any article. Any ideas would be appreicated.  I will summarize what I have done so far to try to debug.

1. Upgrade to K2 version 2.4.1

2. Confirm that global, category, and even article level options all have 'Show Comments' set to yes

3.  Check that comments are turned on 'For Everyone'

4.  Changed templates to check that the issue was not related to an override

5. Changed comments so they are only visible to 'Registered users' no luck there either.

6.  Checked Page source, there seems to be no div tags related to displaying comments or a comment form.

Here is a link to one of the articles where I would like to enable comments.

Assigning ItemId when showing only featured items

Category: English K2 Community

I ran into this with tag views. Here is what I did. It may heklp you;

In my case, I use only tags, which I link to from my menu. So each tag has its own Itemid, which is fine. However, when you click on "read more" for any of the items on the generic tag page, the 'read more' link uses the default K2 Itemid rather than the Itemid of the current page / menu item. This does seem like a bug to me. The read more links should use the Itemids of the current page or at least the menu item that brought the viewer to that 'read more' link.

I have written a small override that solved this for me, since I could find no other way to solve this.

In /components/k2/models/item.php around line 62 (search for "read more link" .. it should be the first one), add this:

//mod to replace K2 Itemid with current page's Itemid.

if(JRequest::getVar('Itemid') && JRequest::getVar('layout') && (JRequest::getVar('layout') == 'generic') && JRequest::getVar('task') && (JRequest::getVar('task') == 'tag')){

//MAKE SURE TO CHANGE "Itemid=17" TO WHATEVER ITEMID YOUR K2 USES:

$link = str_replace('Itemid=17','Itemid='.JRequest::getInt('Itemid'),$link);

}

//end

Try using firebug, depending on your template and whether or not your using a k2 template and onecss4k2 it could be in several locations. You may have to add to the css file to change it without affecting the rest of the text

search for font-size tag
