Google Detects Duplicate Titles and Description Meta Tags with K2

Category: English K2 Community

That's a great solution Davide.

I noticed something else that's a bit weird. I'm seeing a duplicate title on Google Web Master.

Displaying items by tag: design| WebSite Name
/component/k2/itemlist/tag/design
/green-community-blog/itemlist/tag/design

Strange, no?

Yet, when I do a link: search for the offending /component link on Yahoo, nothing shows. I'm going to watch this a bit and see what developers.

At the moment, I'm pretty close to just adding rel nofollow to the item.php area for tag links, so I don't have to worry about it.

Best,
HC

Searching tag option doesn't work

Category: English K2 Community

Hi Simon,

If I enable Enable searching in tags option in K2 search plug-in, it doesn't work and I receive the message:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in C:\XAMPP\xampplite\htdocs\kbase\plugins\search\k2.php on line 142

Do you know how to fix it?

It is important

Thanks

K2 vs. FlexiContent & FlexiAccess

Category: English K2 Community

I'm a big fan of all the CCK's as they have their cool features and advantages.I'm interested in K2 but would like to hear some feedback on the advantages of K2 over FlexiContent & FlexiAcess for government/school district websites where there are a lot of categories, articles and you have to have special access for different members/groups to only be able to manage their own specific categories.I've noticed FlexiContent to slow down Joomla websites but love the features. Does K2 have the same time of Access Control for users and groups to restrict them to their own categories of the website to manage?Any and all feedback is appreciated!

Images issues

Category: English K2 Community

I am having all kinds of issues with layouts, and I do understand templates in K2, CSS, and all of that. I want to be able to have Tag results in a certain style using a certain template. Is that possible, not unless I used generic.php which I dont want to do (as that means I am limited to that one layout) as I want to have different layouts for different things.
I also can not get image sizes to show in all my category listing pages as small, which is what I want to do. Guess what? Tags, search results, and many other pages automatically use large size from DEFAULT configuration sizes and not category in my case. Not sure why.

All my category listings blatantly ignore sizes in the options but that does not happen if I choose a most popular listing (which can't have pagination which also is not really great, because if it did it would do the trick) ... if I choose small, the only way to do it is to choose secondary listings because that is what the default GLOBAL size is for those. So I can do Large in main, medium in primary, and small in secondary with no other options because changing them all to small for example does nothing.

Can anyone help make this easier? I really want the tags results to have the same layout as let's say my news template I created. But there is no way to make a menu item link to a tab listing with template selection. (Im guessing that would solve this problem as Joomla looks for menu item rules to display items that arent assigned to a layout like tags).

If there was a way to show tags in a layout on a menu item with a customizable template...which would be presented whenever someone clicked on a tag... I sure would be happy.

For your questions #1, #2, #3, I did it manually.
Locate the file used for frontend editing
YourSite\components\com_k2\views\item\tmpl\form.php
find the code, then remove or just add comment to the tags which you do not want to be appear..

For your question #4, I think you can go to Global Configuration > Default WYSIWYG Editor, you can change it to No Editor...

I'm so looking for the way how to hide Button Image on the WYSWYG editor, because user may open anything in our Joomla! Images folder...

Category page shows included articles, I only want one to show ever.

Category: English K2 Community

Hi
I am fairly new.
Do you mean, select the category, then click on Parameters (top right), then choose the

Item count for Search, Tag & Date listings

option which is set in mine, to 10.

I am not sure what you mean, please explain where these Category options are set to zero, etc. What is 1 article?
Many thanks
Geoff

Miltiadis bouchalakis said:If you want one you can set in the Category options 1 article as leading 0 primary count 0 secondary count but bare in mind that the article with the highest id is retrieved. else you can use k2content module and select a specific article/item

How do I move the K2 "item tools" from side to bottom of article?

Category: English K2 Community

After all of that I noticed that the "default" folder under templates/gk_postnote/html/com_k2/ is not inside another folder "templates" so when I put my "my_test" in there, that is why it didn't show up. I did use that extension you mentioned and that helped, but it still looks all wonky... it's no longer in a separate column beside the entry, it is above it, but the tags are all in one column, lol But it's getting closer!!

You don't talk about the same issue!

What I need is to get a 2 colums page result when we use tag menu link, as we can have with a category page result.

I don't have any problem with IE8...

Please use another post for your question.

I am using Artisteer generated joomla templates and have opened a ticket with support and sent some pics and files. This is a commercial product so there is more support available. Hopefully I will get a response from Artisteer.

In my case, it is the Artisteer template that cannot render 2 columns in IE8. I do not know enough about CSS to identify what is going wrong. I wish I could walk through the code line by line and see what is happening. I do not know how to do that.

K2 + SH404sef + Joomfish = missing itemid???

Category: English K2 Community

I'm using K2 v2.3 , tried numerous current SH404sef vers. including stable and beta and joomfish v2.0.4 with joomla 1.5.18.
Here is the issue as best as I can explain it, maybe someone can duplicate this.
I have a single k2 category (projects), all articles are using tags to organize the content in 2 ways (location= 6 tags) and (service= 6 tags). The articles will always contain at least 1 location tag and 1 or more service tags.Ok so now I set up my menu with Projects and sub menu's with location and service then menu items below those that are tag based menu items.K2 category list view--->       Projects__                K2 single item view--->       Location___                                         K2 tag list view--->       USA                                         K2 tag list view--->       Europe                                         K2 tag list view--->       Asia                                         K2 tag list view--->       Africa                                         K2 tag list view--->       Latin Amercia                                         K2 tag list view--->       Worldwide                K2 single item view--->       Service___                                         K2 tag list view--->       line 1                                         K2 tag list view--->       line 2                                         K2 tag list view--->       line 3                                         K2 tag list view--->       line 4                                         K2 tag list view--->       line 5                                         K2 tag list view--->       line 6OK now that we have the structure when I navigate to a K2 tag list view and change my language setting via the JFlanguage module, then click on the intro text title to view the article or the read more link the resulting article view is missing the itemId so no modules associated with that itemId render on the article view.I believe I have the correct settings on SH404sef, I've been using it on a lot of sites for a long time. ItemId settings are correct. Is there an issue with the sef_ext that K2 has included? Can anyone take the time to confirm this issue?I am at a total loss here.tia,Apple

[SOLVED] Help! How to display date below the title?

Category: English K2 Community

OK Great. Thanks William!
I dug through the php files and made it work. CSS is done as well easily. Perfect!
The only time it is not working well (date goes above title) is when I pull articles by tags. which php file/files would K2 use to display articles when you click on a tag?
Although I have gone through all those files. I might have missed something.

Thanks!

Bug with tags - Items are not displayed

Well as I said before it makes K2 pretty useless for Greek websites, no matter what. I mean, there is already a stand-alone extension for Tags generation, which works just fine with all Greek letters; why couldn't K2 manage to do that too?!

Lefteris Kavadas said:Hi. It seems to be PHP's parse_url function problem. More specific Joomla! uses parse_url when constructing the JURI object ( line 772 at /libraries/joomla/environment/uri.php ). The parse_url function for some reason converts the greek character 'ρ' to an unspecified character. And because K2 uses the tag string to find your items it finds nothing.
Chrysovalantis Mochlas said:Hi Lefteris and thanks for the answer. Are you sure it's an issue of Joomla's router? I'm asking you because I know that K2 uses a router too for the links generation, doesn't it? The thing is that it affects only one letter of the Greek alphabet "ρ"! I don't get it.. I tried for example some other extension, called "Joomla Tags", which doesn't have any problem working with Joomla's own router and generating the right URLs. I wonder if this is a K2 issue. Either way it makes K2 pretty useless for Greek websites, because the letter "ρ" is used very very often in the Greek vocabulary and you know that! I hope this issue is going to fixed some time soon. Lefteris Kavadas said:Hi. It seems that you are right. I m not sure yet what's causing this but as it occurred when you turned on SEF it may be something with the Joomla! router class.

K2 Front page items

Category: English K2 Community

I have a similar issue I think:-

www.staged-site3.co.uk

I want to create a nice front page that has a mix of text, images and reviews. All are created as 'items' with K2.

My menu type is a 'K2 category' menu. It pulls in items from a category call 'home page' (for the first 3 items you can see on the home page) and pulls in items from several other categories for the other items (the reviews). I want the home page to only show 'featured' reviews (really like the graphics for these btw!) however if I switch to 'only show featured items' my top 3 items assigned to the home page category disappear! Logical I guess. I obviously don't want the first three items it include the 'featured grphics' so now not sure what to do!

William,

This is the link to the web site: www.smashingdeco.com (french version for the moment).
When you click on UNIVERS Créations & Collections in the main menu, you're going to a tag page result with one column.

I need to get a 2 columns-page result. The problem is we don't have for tag page the pagination parameters as we get for blog page.

So I don't know to get a 2 columns result page.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have the same issue but it is only on MS IExplorer that one column is displayed for categories. Both Google Chrome and Firefox display two columns of Items as defined in my properties.

Is there an issue with IExplorer for category displays?

It is frustrating because I will have to scrap K2 if I cannot figure this out.
