problem displaying articles with K2

Category: English K2 Community

Hi
Please check your content HTML code, there may be some missing closing tag.

bio-antonio said:Hi Simon here is one of the JTemplates. Apparently the problem doesn't exist there, but part of the menu structure
has been shifted below as well.
On the other hand, on another trial website where I am using just the jooma default templates, it happens again

I have also detected another similar problem: while using the original template, such that the first story header
seems to be in the right place but the rest of the articles are displaced way down.
The first of the news (in this case) is showed when click on the "home" menu entry

Then when I click on the menu entry per se, the title seems to be in the right place but the rest of the content
is way down (3rd attachment).
Cheers
Antonio

Thanks Antonio

bio-antonio said:Hi first of all I wanted to thank both of you for taking the trouble to reply to my question I think I had understood the basic philosophy of using K2, just there were a things that are happening which I could'nt quite explain. Yasterday, while tinkering with it, I realized that the reason why the article was also shown on the left hand side, was because the K2 Content plugin was activated (by default I guess right after istallation) and this caused the same content as the one showed on the central display area to be shown on the left hand side as well. For some reason I thought that the K2 Content plugin was the one responsible for displaying the article's content on the main part of the website, so I couldn't figure out why this was happening.
Now I disabled it and the content is correctly displyed in the middle of my page only, which is what I wanted. So K2Joom was right in pointing this out .

Right now my content is only displayed on a local computer.

I also noticed that the content has been shifted below, but I do not understand why.
But it does also happen with other Joomla templates as the ones that come by default.
Any idea why this is happening?

What is firebug?
All the best

Tabs & Slides and K2

Category: English K2 Community

Just in case anyone is interested. I wanted to use JW Tabs and Slides to 'hide' the k2 Comments and Additional Info divs. Go here to view langritangpa.peet.co.nz/beginners-courses/item/33-foundation-course Click on the View Additional Information and View/Add Item Comments to see it working. I implemented by using the following:

1) I created a k2 template and edited the item.php file adding the following to the file just after the defined or die line
$slide_link = '' ."\n";
$slide_display = '';
$slide_speed = ''; $document->addCustomTag($slide_link);
$document->addCustomTag($slide_display);
$document->addCustomTag($slide_speed);
$document->addScript("template.sin-iqual.com/plugins/content/plugin_jw_ts/tabs_slides_comp.js");
$document->addScript("template.sin-iqual.com/plugins/content/plugin_jw_ts/tabs_slides_def_loader.js");

Obviously, you should change the URLs to suit your own site configuration
2) Found the if statement that displays the Additional Information and Comments blocks and added this after the if statement

View Additional Information

3) Added the following after the end of the block

Hope someone finds it useful

Category Listing Format Problem - SOLVED!!!

OK in the first link which is your issue.

This "issue", is not an issue, it is how you have your K2 category parameters set for the category Colorado Tracks

The IMI Motorsports is your Leading Item, the first one displayed
The CRE Motorsports is your primary item. You will have Primary Item set to 2 columns

To make then all appear the same, either set you Leading item count to say 10 and Primary Secondary to 0 or Primary to 10 and leading and Secondary to 0.
If you cant see the right menu in your K2 edit category page, then click the toggle switch over the top right of the edit screen to display it.

The second link, displays "correctly" as it is a fixed format.

Pop over to K2joom and take a look at the K2 Documents which gives and explanation in to all the parameters.

Its definitely not a bug and can be fixed easily by playing with the category parameters.
Also, As i believe you might be creating categories based on area for your tracks, it would be a good idea to have your other cats to inherit their parameters from this category. That will save you having to manually configure every new category.

Hope that helps.

I was able to solve this problem. I went to K2 Items & clicked the Parameters icon. I scrolled down to
"Layout & view options for Search, Tag & Date listings" & selected Hide for the Item category parameter.

The category listings are now displaying without the "Published in..." link to the category view that is still not formatting the item image correctly. But I will use the tag to link to the items related to that tag instead of the category that has the image display problem.

Category Listing Format Problem - SOLVED!!!

Category: English K2 Community

I have some K2 items listed in the category "Colorado Tracks". These tracks have tags "colorado" & "tracks" You can view the article here www.gaddyproperty.com/kartresource/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=4:imi-motorsports-complex&Itemid=174If I click on the links "Tagged under tracks colorado" I get a nicely formatted listing with the item images neatly justified to the left with the description to the right of the image. However, if I click on the "Published in Colorado Tracks" link & go to the K2 category listing, the images are sometimes centered & sometimes left justified. Is this a bug? How do I get all the images in the category listing to display in the same position?  Ideally I would like the category listing to be formatted the same as the listings when I click on the tag links. Can someone tell me how to achieve this? Thanks!

K2 and extra field CSV

Category: English K2 Community

Hi folks,I tried to use the CSV extra field, but the layout turns out to be a mess, because there is no space between cells (padding). The only way that I found out is via the templates CSS and there I changed the th, td, tr tags. Unfortunately this had impact on all tables on the website... this is no good. Any Ideas how to just change the way the csv-extrafield appears? Link to a relating thread if present would help as well. I didn't reckon any older thread on this topic...THANX in advance guys...

Okay looked into it....

There is some sort of issue with different installations as far as I can tell. Maybe php versions or something.

Anyway, some more searching led me to replace:

case 'tag':
$title[] = 'tag';
$title[] = str_replace('%20','-',$tag);
break;
with
case 'tag':
$title[] = 'tag';
$tag=str_replace('%20','-',$tag);
$tag=str_replace('+','-',$tag);
$title[] = $tag;
break;

in the file: siteroot\components\com_k2\sef_ext\com_k2.php

And after I looked into it I found the link above that says "how to solve .... blah" mannn. I felt good before that

I might look into this in the next few days, but the problem must be that the tag is not being parsed by the k2_sef plug-in

It looks like it has the options there though.

case 'tag':
$title[] = 'tag';
$title[] = str_replace('%20','-',$tag);
break;

Item Tags organized Alphabetically

Category: English K2 Community

UPDATE: The hack to do this is written below. Still a feature would be nice.It would be great to have the selectable tags organized alphabetically in a new item administration.Also to have them fixed so you don't have to save the article/Item to add new tags.Doesn't seem to hard to make the first happen.  I'd be willing to do it.  I've never helped on a dev though.Please tell me if this is incorrect or there is a better way, but I have done this:in administrator/components/com_k2/models/item.php line 757near:        if (!is_null($itemID))            $query .= " WHERE tags.id NOT IN (SELECT tagID FROM #__k2_tags_xref WHERE itemID={$itemID})";        $db->setQuery($query);I canged it to:        if (!is_null($itemID))            $query .= " WHERE tags.id NOT IN (SELECT tagID FROM #__k2_tags_xref WHERE itemID={$itemID}) ORDER BY tags.name";        $db->setQuery($query);added: ORDER BY tags.nameThey sort in alphabetical order now.  Is there an option for this and someone will make me look silly now?  :)

Drawing of the template category item

In components/com_k2/css/k2.css add "float:left;" to the div.catItemImageBlock. Your code should look like this:

div.catItemImageBlock {
float:left;
margin:0 0 16px;
padding:8px;
}

Really, it is just adding the "float:left;"

You will need to do this in div.itemImageBlock to change the layout in the item-level.

Give this a try (but save the original first) and let us know how you make out.

How does K2 compare with Mosets? (and SOBI) (and jSeBlod)

Category: English K2 Community

WOW~~~Amazing that you discovered so much in a short period of time!
First please allow me to correct one typo in my last post which might have confused you - it should be predefined search, rather than strange "redefined search", sorry about that :)
You and me, we are both very interested in the search / filtering, or in your term, drilling down. K2's tag system is also kind of search / drilling down. We all use Gmail, where tags are used to an extreme perfectness. I 'd say no category should be used for it is physical and structurally limited, while tags are completely flexible and unlimited as your content increase like explosion. Allowing users to manage their contents with a tag attribute to their liking would be a great convenience for the site admin.
My concern with K2 / jSeblod's tag/field filtering / search is the visual presentation. The predefined search should not only work as menu, it should also be able to work as virtual categories visually. In that way we could move around the virtual category which seems exactly like a physical one from the mainbody to various module positions. As far as I can see, K2 is able to use ONE tag as menu link only, and jSeblod can use predefined search (multiple fields allowed) as menu but presents a form rather than filtered results to the users (please correct me if am wrong on this for i am not sure if it could be achieved by templating in jSeblod).
BTW i have not use the jseblod forum yet :) sorry for that but i will and i know the old one should be avoided :) in fact i read about your posts there (your directory project). I am interested in similar projects too, but i have not got enough play on jseblod. But besides the search that we both love, please also consider user management (group permissions) part while you choose it (and I do believe K2 is better for now).
I did not mean to talk about other CCK too much on K2 forum, so sorry about that. But I do hope if the K2 developers read it, please take some of the useful part into account :) and make k2 stronger.

How does K2 compare with Mosets? (and SOBI) (and jSeBlod)

Hey scyllar.

From my research, I will be using (have to get to know it first - its tough) jSeBlod for this project. jSeBlod is a very complex extension, with, unfortunately, little to no documentation. However, jSeblod puts Joomla no a whole different level (not a better level compared to any other CCK, just a LOT more complex) which allows you a ton of flexibilty. I will suggest (even though I never used ANY other web builder) that jSeBlod puts Joomla in Drupal arena. Its a whole new way of thinking with jSeBlod. As I am learning it I am also trying to build some documentation about it.

One of the first things you have to get a grasp of is fields in jSeBlod. They are much more than fields in K2. A "submit" button is a field in jSeBlod, just for example. I have no clue what you can do with it, but I can promise you its much more than K2. But if I didn't need what (to my research) only jSeBlod (and I think Mosets, but I don't want to pay $120 to find out) can provide, I would use K2. I like K2. Its very easy to learn, and very useful. But it only goes that far (in terms of my needs on this project). So please don't misunderstand me, every CCK has a place and a application that it excels in, K2 just wont work for this project (it has for a project for a mate of mine).

Regarding what you mention about redefined search as a tag filtering....honestly, I have no idea. jSeBlod is very complex (don't be afraid of it, you just need to play with it more with trail and error because of the sad thing about lack of documentation) and I am learning it slowly and basically my learning is also focussed on my needs for my project. jSeBlod also works with Content Types. This means that you can have consistency with all your articles regarding a specific subject, that is with data caputuring and display (the use of forms). You can also automate some things, like entering a "Read more" break automatically in an article at a certain spot. So in other words, for each content type that you have in your site, you setup a special way to capture/display it front and backend.

That is about as much as I can comment at the moment. Oh, and to my understanding (haven't played with it yet), I can setup a menu link which will provide me with a set search result based on the fields that I include in the setup. So, you can have an infinite number of virtual drill downs (when I say virtual drill down, I mean you can drill down from any direction, even though you have a set, simple category tree).

As I learn more I will share most definitely. jSeBlod will allow me to have a category tree with no subcategories, but I filter and search via fields (fields in terms of how K2 uses fields). As for tag management, no clue at this stage, soory.

BTW.....do not use the original forum (if you want to join them), use the one at jseblod-cck.

Hi Frants Combrink, good posts.
I am impressed for your research. I hope you have found the CCK to your heart so far, and if so please share your findings with us. Thanks.
jSeblod seems promising. Compared to K2 it lacks user management and tag management. It is another joomla or enhanced joomla core in article, user and contacts. It seems stronger in search form but can you use a redefined search as a tag filtering? I have not played with it much so please correct me if am wrong.

K2 is great as it is. Love it already. First install about a week ago or something. Time spent is still in hours so truly a K2 starter but already in love.A feature though I would really love to see in future releases is an advanced search page where the site visitor can
Search on a combination of tags. Perhaps something with all tags alphabetized and check-boxes though sites with a lot of tags might get huge pages that way.
Text-box to search on exact match, all search terms, any search terms(default searches in tags, categories, full-text, title, meta)
Search within date range (created/modified)
Refine search
Search within category
(for Joomfish multilingual sites) search in current language, selected languages or all languages
If there are no matches, return to search page with same options/values still filled in, preceded by a notice like "sorry, no results. try deselecting some things"
Back-end configuration who can search unpublished items

- I put searching on multiple tags on 1 because that's what I would definitely love most. Perhaps with back-end configuration whether search is a search on all tags, a search on any or whether the front-end user has the option to choose.For some of the others it makes sense if there is a back-end configuration to set default value. For instance search on date range all or search within current language with front-end option for user to change it.Of course show or hide for each search option. An with the example code, designers can easily change the order or layout with template overrides/sub-templating.A search page with some or might I dream perhaps even all of the above would be a great enhancement of an already great product. Thanks for all that you've made so far.
