Tagging bug - after saving item tag functionality is disabled

Category: English K2 Community

Hi Jeanette,

OK, you do not have a tagging bug.
This is not a K2 issue as it is working, but most likely a js conflict.

I created a test item.
Added tags, saved.
Added image gallery, saved.
Added tag, saved.
Added video, saved.
Added tags, saved.

All no problem.
This is with SIG Pro using multibox with mootools.

So something else is causing this not too common issue.

Tagging bug - after saving item tag functionality is disabled

Category: English K2 Community

Hey Jeanette,

OK, I get an error at zip upload (containing images).
Checked SIG Pro for gallery file location media/stories/gallery
Checked Media Manager, folder does not exist.
Tried to create folder manually, an error is returned, but i cant read Norwegian ;)
Tried to create folder manually through ftp, I am getting a Disk Quota Exceeded error when trying to create.

I cant test the tag issue any further until we can get either a video or gallery added to the item.

You need to have a look at that exceeded quota.
PS: site looks awesome, who did your K2 templating? hahaha

Regards,

Simon

Tersting? Count me in! Basically what I am looking for is a simple ecommerce store ... but the difference is that it would be searchable by tags based on gender, language, all tags that might just as easily be used in many ecommerce sites elsewhere ... digital product, physical product, report, ebook etc.

Big market? Create an ecommerce solution with an affiliate program attached or built in and different payment gateways ... mega big market IMHO.

Still, nice to see an active and supportive forum for a product. I laud your devotion and greatly appreciate your concern, cooperation and assistance!

Thanks!

K2Joom said:Olivier, you better tell me when that paypal solution needs testing!! ;)
I have VM installed, but not started setting up, but the downside is that as there is not bridge between you, you would have to have store side in VM and remaining store in K2.

Therefore, I would much prefer if we can to get K2 to cover some e-commerce solution as that is a big potential market that we are missing.

I'm working on a paypal solution for K2 but it's still an alpha version.

You can try to plug K2 with virtuemart but Virtuemart is not as extensible as K2 so good luck !

E Commerce, Audio and Video Gallery

Category: English K2 Community

I am setting up an ecommerce site that will offer written product creation, video content creation and audio content creation. I need to install a gallery for my video and photography models (I have just over 100 at present) so my first question is will K2 handle a full gallery along the lines of being searchable by skills, model types, genders (presumably set up as tags) etc? I would like to do a "product" page or gallery page for each model individually and have the "gallery" view link to the model's gallery page so guests can see video, pics and hear audio if it is available. Is there an MP3 player I can use for K2 so that I can post a similar "gallery" with just audio content? Which brings me to my question about billing:Is it necessary to include VirtueMart (my preferred method until I discovered K2) or does K2 have some type of built in payment gateway? I can use strictly paypal if I have to but it would be nice to have other options available as well. Pardon the "noob" questions but this is day one with K2 so I will be looking around the documentation as I await a response as well. The site is not live yet but I would like to get it up and running as quickly as possible. I can survive with nothing more than I am doing right now but that is all. This site has a lot more potential and I have some really strong talent behind it ... but it remains up to me to get the site up and running! Thanks!

Template settings are template specific, jeanette. In my case there was a javascript in a template that interferred with K2. By disabling it I got K2 to function as expected.

jeanette said:I also have this problem, but do not quite understand how i can fix it. What is the SIG pro engine? What template settings were disabled?

Need More Documentation

Category: English K2 Community

The documentation provided is so scarce that I'm not sure it can be called documentation.  All this might be common understanding to someone well versed in Joomla and even K2, but for Joomla novices like me, even the Quick Start guide is Greek to me.  And yes, the pun IS intended.Where, if anywhere is there more help/documentation?  It is easy to say, add a tag, or extra field groups etc.  I have been playing around with K2 for a while and cannot make any sense out of it.  In addition, I need additional information about creating a navigation menu that would be something similar to Joomla, and so far I have not had any luck.  Joomla is hard enough, but adding another layer of difficulty with K2 without documentation is extremely frustrating.I am willing to keep slogging through this K2 stuff, but only if there is more information anywhere that I can access.  I will not mind paying for it, and I don't think few people will.

clicking on image gives SQL syntax error when opening the item/page

Category: English K2 Community

Hi,

I have inserted an image in my article. When clicking on the image from the category view, the item (page) opens and the image gets bigger. But on top of the page i get the following message:

No valid database connection You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ') AND itemID!=4' at line 1 SQL=SELECT DISTINCT itemID FROM jos_k2_tags_xref WHERE tagID IN (,) AND itemID!=4

I am running joomla v. 1.5.5, latest k2 with the "beta" version for frontend editing with joomfish installed.

Maybe it has something to do with the beta version, but anyway i need to fix it.

Does anyone know how and in which file i can fix this?

I think that using the sub templates, and then creating php to call items from the current category that has these tags would be the way to do this.

How do I retrieve items with specific tags with the template??

I have the requirement to duplicate the functionality of a business directory located herehttp://www.boiseonlinemall.com/My issue that I have come across is how to get a business to come up in multiple categories and also in a potential featured spot, under the category description and then another optional sopt open under the sub category navigation.I could probably figure out how to make extra fileds that represent each spot for each category but this would not be dynamic. no way to facilitate for new categories that might be added. I think tags is the way to go, but I would need to be able to grab an item with php in the template, for that section being viewed. is there a list of available parameters to the template? This is a big cat to skin. the advertisements are no real big deal. the featuring of a business is where I am trying to wrap my head around k2, to see if K2 will be able to handle this with it being easy enough for the customer to use and update.thanks for ANY ideas and help. I know joomla, I am new to K2 A module that grabs content by tags would be freaking awesome!!

I just had a look at this site, very nice themes but you need to pay for them. Now I am not against paying for them as I normally do make sure I give back by either donating or purchasing upgraded mods I am using when I have completed my projects. However at this stage I am a bit hesitant to put money out only to find I ma sitting in the same situation as I am now without any support

Yes I would really be interested because at this stage I have hit a problem with the default template and IE, thanks for offering. This is the problem I am having and I am getting no response on my post at all community.getk2.org/forum/topics/menus-not-displaying-correctly

Multiple image pop ups error

Category: Simple Image Gallery PRO

I can get the gallery to show up using the K2 tab, however when I click on the thumbnail I get THREE popups of the same image. I have no idea why but it seems to just get worse, almost like it is adding the popup, but not removing it when I remove the image gallery from the item.

I also can't get the image gallery to show when I use the {gallery}current{/gallery} tag in the text. It just gives me a blank screen, however if I put the incorrect gallery in then it appears normally but with an error saying "cannot find gallery".

I'm not sure why I get so many issues, because from what I can tell everyone here has nothing but good things to say. I have not seen anyone post a similar issue to either of these, yet I have never seen this working for me. Should it really be this hard?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regarding the tags, there is a bug or two that need to be worked out. You may be experiencing an issue with having a dash or dot within the tag. One of these issues has been worked out, according to my memory, but the other has not. Either way, the issue leads to a K2 page with no content on it.

The tags issue is really frustrating for me. I've disabled every tag that wasn't one word. (I have over 600 tags). No spaces - no dash- no dot. Still no go. I'm not using sh404sef, using standard built-in Joomla sef, so that isn't the issue. When clicked, tags still lead to a 404 error. Hoping for a fix.

Sure hope the dev's are working on pagination also. I have a couple of loooong articles that would look better broken up.

Other than those issues (huge issues, IMO) , I still think that K2 is great.

It appears you changed the template. Very clean. Like it. And love the Kunena template. It's looking good.

One thing I have learned from the easy upgrade process is to always save your default template and CSS. I love K2 2.2.

For comments, I have chosen an external commenting system, Disqus. The social aspect to it helps with extending the content to other social media platforms. Though, I can understand why one would want to keep complete control over the commenting system, primarily due to the longevity of such projects.

line spacing or height in K2content module - Safari

Category: English K2 Community

I am sorry man, haven´t been at forum for a long time. Here is a mod_k2_content/tmpl/Default/default.php file.
It fixed all my problems with layout in different browsers. Now it is same look in every browser i tested.

Jason Hull said:Which files did you modify?
BBC said:I fixed my problems with Safari and Chrome browsers. Renamed all
<.....br class="clr"/.......>

to

<....div class="clr"....><.../div....>
(don´t forget closing tags)
And it is now working perfectly in all browsers. The same spacing in millimeter.

When i removed some (or all)
<....br class="clr"/....>
i still needed to make a lot of styling and tweaking in css file to get same results in all browsers.

This way i had not to do this. It is perfect as it is in all browsers, and absolutely same results.

This forum is stupid. Just remove all these dots up there. Forum wont allow to put this as it is.

Upgrading to 2.2 and my customized style.css is now k2.css!

Category: English K2 Community

The default style contained within components/com_k2 etc will be overwritten on upgrading.
If you have used the K2 template to be used within your joomla template, templates/joomlatemplate/html/com_k2 etc then this will be saved.

If in doubt, back up first.
If you use cPanel, just navigate to the com_k2 folder and zip it and store it safe, download it.

Although you can use it in V2.2, be aware that there are change between the two so some css will or wont be styled. At this stage, I do not have a list of differences.

If you want more information on K2 templating, then let me know, I can supply links to this on K2Joom.com

Hope that helps.

K2 item in Multiple Categories

Category: English K2 Community

This is such an important feature for K2, and the implementation is not impossible. First, I will say why this is important: Users should be able to navigate content listings, and find an item by different paths, without copying content between categories. So unless K2 can make NESTED TAGS (which would effectively be the same as multiple categories), this is still important. Think about Ebay or another retailer that puts links to items under "Bestsellers" and also "Video Games".

So how to implement? Here is the best way:

First, from the item creation, it can be assigned to multiple categories. 1 category is set as the primary category, and this category is stored in catid in the database (for compatibility). All other categories are stored in a new database table that maps items to categories by paths. The schema for this table:

ID (primary key) ItemID CatID PathID (optional)

The ID is just the primary key. The ItemID stores the article ID. The cat ID stores the CatID. The PathID is an optional parameter that reflects if this is path 1, path 2, path 3, .... to get to this item.

Any time an item is created, we make unique entries for each category assignment. This puts the database load on the item creation rather than search (if we had put all of the categories comma-separated in the original items table). When a category listing is requested, we just find all of the items in this Paths table that match, and list them. Other modules that use K2 should start using this table.

So for URLs, there is an SEO way and a non-SEO way, I want to highlight both, and suggest the SEO way.

SEO way: only 1 url per article. Unless some magical cookies or database are used, the page cannot reflect which category the user arrived by.
non-SEO way: multiple urls per article. This allows the URL to reflect the category that the viewer reached the item by. However, it also means that there are multiple URLs for the same item. This could be done simply by appending the "path" to the end of the URL to allow K2 breadcrumbs to properly display the path, or the whole url would be set correctly (the latter being preferable).

Let me know if this makes sense. The feature is quite important if K2 wants to be THE content solution.

Other Item Links In Categories

Category: English K2 Community

As a new user to K2, I'm still coming to grips with a complete mindset change. But I will stick at it!I have run into a problem however on my first site. It's not large and is presently on my localhost, so I can't share the link I'm afraid. Due to the size of the site, it seemed a perfect opportunity to "get my feet wet" with K2.The site is for the sale of a product and I have set up a category name "Product" under which some relevant items have been placed.  At this stage I have an item for Affiliates, Affiliate Codes and two download pages. One of the download pages is for PayPal purchases and one for Clickbank. The problem I've run into is the display of the Download pages on the Affiliate page listed at the bottom of the article and titled "More In This Category".  Obviously I don't want these pages displayed anywhere as links as the downloads are only available to purchasers of the product.Surely there must be a switch to turn this display off, but I'll be damned if I can find it. I'm sure there would be many other occasions where links to other pages in a category would not be desirable.Yes, I can get around it by creating an Affiliate category, but I would like to solve this for future reference as well as the current issue. Can someone direct me to where this switch is please?Cheers,Ric
