Tagging bug - after saving item tag functionality is disabled

Category: English K2 Community

Thank you for the tip Lefteris, and thank you K2Joom for looking into it. I anticipated on the java issues and disabled some template settings after which this problem seems to be under control.

Do you mean, you cant get tags to appear on the front end?
The most likely cause is that you have tag display set to hide in either the item or the category that it is saved in.

Recheck the category parameters for item view first.

I have tested tagging on two installs and on both I am unable to replicate this issue.
FYI, I have tested with all 10 pop up engines.

Help making K2 Default

Yes I've imported the articles. Getting them to show at ALL is not the problem. Getting them to display in anything other than the k2 format is the problem. For instance, I wanted to use certain K2 catagories in Tabs, but since the extension/mod/plugins don't recognize k2, I can't select the K2 content to display there.

Sr. Interior said:try this
in your joomla Menu Editor go to MainMenu and create an new item-link point to (in.example) your K2 Featured Items in all Categories, call it anything like Home
then select this menu item and make it the default item, ...
now joomla take this menu item as your home page

(excuse my english)

Mickey Perre said:Have you tried the import articles section?? Where Are My Sports

Gameinatrix said:Yeah, I see those aren't free so I suppose I'll keep looking around. This doesn't leave much options for displaying content with other plugins or Mods, sad.
K2Joom said:Hi Cori, Basically, Joomla Articles and K2 Items are called from the database using different code. Unless a componet, module or plugin has been modified to be able to access the K2 Items, then it wont, all it will see is Joomla Articles.
There are a number of addons that are being created to be able to read the new K2 Items, but it will take a little time.
If there is something that is really useful to consider, then it can be added to the feature request forum.

If it is really useful to a lot of people, then you will easily find developers that will come on board to make a plugin to allow this.

K2 comes with some modules that allows it to display either K2 or Joomla content.
There are also some developers that are starting to produce their own, such as JoomlaBamboo.com. They recently released a Joomla template called Avanti, we use it at K2Joom.com, and it was designed to support K2, in addition they updated their modules to read the K2 content as well.

If you want to, you can remove the Joomla icons you mentioned, via the Module Manager > Administrator.
this will not disable Joomla content altogether, but remove just the admin icons and leave just k2 in place.

Hope that helps.

Speak soon.

Search K2 Problem

Category: English K2 Community

Hi Phil,
Just some comments, from my test of this.

1) I have always had J! Search enabled, infact all search plugins are enabled
3) Copied com_search to my template folder Avanti.
For those that use Avanti from Joomlabamboo, there already is a com_search folder but it does not contain the same files as the original search component.

I am not interested to turn off the check boxes, to be honest, I would love to actually see some check boxes to prove it works so I have not followed any of the other steps.

At this stage, still no check boxes appear, still no indication that the results are even a search page.
Again, I noticed that there is a mod_search folder in my Avanti template folders which just contained index.html and default.php so I copied the mod_search to the template.

K2 search still not working correctly.
J! search is displaying K2 items with K2 tick box so shall now be using J! Search as default and remove K2 search.

Frustrating problem this one.

Thanks Phil, hope this help some users.

Sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately I'm unable to furnish you any further details as I have since removed K2 from my site. I decided to do so for the reason that reading many of the recent threads here has shown me that K2 still has quite a few things that need sorting out before going "production" with it.

Whilst I am most certain they will be worked out, for now I have decided to stick with Supper Blogger, of which I am very happy with. The reason I wanted to go with K2 was that it does tagging.

As a result of all of this, I have just obtained and am now trying to get jxTENDED labels to work with my Supper Blogger and ACEsef extensions. Like you, I have no issues paying reasonable prices for Joomla extensions.

And so I shall be taking a leave of absence from K2 for a while. But I look forward to checking it out if and when my next site or project comes along!

Once again... thanks for your great site and work

Tagging bug - after saving item tag functionality is disabled

Category: English K2 Community

I am building a website running Joomla 1.5.15 with K2.2, Image Gallery Pro (latest), JoomFish 2.04 with localization and the latest JCE at www.lemazetimmo.fr When entering an item, tagging works as it should at entry level.  But once the form is completed and pictures have been added and uploaded, the item tags cannot be modified.  The ajax functionality disappears and new tags are NOT saved.Thank you for helping on this one. I have tried several reinstalls since there were also issues with JCE not displaying for joomfish translations (which I corrected with a lot of pain by uninstalling both Joomfish and K2 and reinstalling them 1. joomfish, 2. K2)The tagging issue however cannot be solved with reïnstallation, so there must be a serious bug.Thank you for helping out.

How to show related content as a menu using a module

Category: English K2 Community

Hi There,Is it possible to use one of the K2 modules to achieve the following:I have a specific article, let's call it 'egypt'. And with this article come some related articles such as: day by day description, tips and trics, do's and don'ts. These articles are only relevant to this specific article 'egypt'. I would like to place a module on this page with the titles of these relevant articles as a menu. Because there will be many of these articles making a custom menu that links to specific items is not a working solution. I need a smart module that shows other articles with a specific tag. This way I can create a specific tag for each item that is relevant to the main item (article)I call it articles but in K2 of course their called items!Look at the screenshot to see what I mean.

Hi everybody,

In order to activate Tag Clouds as a module, you can use K2 Tools module. This module can be set for many purposes. One of them is Tag Clouds. Please see screen capture picture below:

Help making K2 Default

Category: English K2 Community

Hi there!

Thanks for your reply. Sorry I'm on cold meds so I may not be making the most sense, so I'll try to explain again.
Originally when I set up the site, I put articles into catagories I created with the core system. Upon finding K2 I switched to using it instead.

However, now since I've added plugins, (and if you'll take a look at my site. www.gameinatrix.com) such as the ticker at the top of the page, it allows you to pick catagories or articles to display. The only ones that are showing to be selected are the ones I originally added to the joomla core. They do not recognize the K2 content at all. When I go to control panel in my admin area, it shows both the original joomla core panel AND my k2 panel. I'd like to have the system default to k2, instead of the core. Hope that makes better sense. Thanks again in advance.

Search K2 Problem

Category: English K2 Community

Hi,

The problem is when trying to search in the tags, if you turn it off from the Search_K2 plugin parameters, the error won't show anymore, of course you'll lose the tag searching functionality.

As far as I can tell, this is a bug in the K2 Search plugin, since it uses MySQL's MATCH function incorrectly. So the best thing to do is to go back to the old plugin, where the search is done using the LIKE operator.

In the MySQL Site it explains that the MATCH function in NATURAL LANGUAGE MODE performs a search against a text collection, and a text collection can only exist within a table. When the plugin tries to search the tags it adds a foreign column into the MATCH function, which of course breaks the query.

Meta data from article text, tags, custom fields ?

Category: English K2 Community

On a Joomla 1.0 site i admin with the jReviews component (slideshow customer!!) i somehow managed to edit the relevant and use cmsFramework::meta('keywords',$predefinedvariableofyourchoice); to use custom fields from jReviews tied to the article to 'automate' the meta data for the article.  The logic being that the article and its associated table data already contained the META data so why should i sit and key in meta data for 500+ businesses .....
Anyway it worked really well for good listings so no this new site with K2 i`m wondering how to achieve something similar. item.php (.../components/com_k2/templates/default/) appears to be the right location for this to be coded in, any suggestion or pointers to get there ?

Such as

- appending the article/item title/meta-title to include the K2 category and/or custom fields ;

- cycling through the item tags and then adding a divider between then (eg a comma) to make the meta keywords ;

-  append the keywords above after the sites main meta description then append the first xx characters of the article/item to make the pages meta description

Items in Multiple Categories

Category: English K2 Community

This is such an important feature for K2, and the implementation is not impossible. First, I will say why this is important: Users should be able to navigate content listings, and find an item by different paths, without copying content between categories. So unless K2 can make NESTED TAGS (which would effectively be the same as multiple categories), this is still important. Think about Ebay or another retailer that puts links to items under "Bestsellers" and also "Video Games".

So how to implement? Here is the best way:

First, from the item creation, it can be assigned to multiple categories. 1 category is set as the primary category, and this category is stored in catid in the database (for compatibility). All other categories are stored in a new database table that maps items to categories by paths. The schema for this table:

ID (primary key) ItemID CatID PathID (optional)

The ID is just the primary key. The ItemID stores the article ID. The cat ID stores the CatID. The PathID is an optional parameter that reflects if this is path 1, path 2, path 3, .... to get to this item.

Any time an item is created, we make unique entries for each category assignment. This puts the database load on the item creation rather than search (if we had put all of the categories comma-separated in the original items table). When a category listing is requested, we just find all of the items in this Paths table that match, and list them. Other modules that use K2 should start using this table.

So for URLs, there is an SEO way and a non-SEO way, I want to highlight both, and suggest the SEO way.

SEO way: only 1 url per article. Unless some magical cookies or database are used, the page cannot reflect which category the user arrived by.
non-SEO way: multiple urls per article. This allows the URL to reflect the category that the viewer reached the item by. However, it also means that there are multiple URLs for the same item. This could be done simply by appending the "path" to the end of the URL to allow K2 breadcrumbs to properly display the path, or the whole url would be set correctly (the latter being preferable).

Let me know if this makes sense. The feature is quite important if K2 wants to be THE content solution.

Bug in the search plugin

Category: English K2 Community

We have a similor problem. Use the k2 search mod and the tag cloud. It works ok unless you search on the terms in the tag cloud. (even when on in plugin)

You can also search on entire words only and it doesn't recognize capitals. i.e. There is an article STuk and it finds when searching "stuk" but not when searching on "STuk"

Seems buggie as hell that searh module...
I hope you can fix this soon cause we need to go live.

Besides that search bug it's a wonderful component!
