Google Detects Duplicate Meta Tags with K2

Category: English K2 Community

I have included dummy a description for each category for testing.

• When I load my homepage (aggregate feed of all categories) the website displays my Joomla META info for the description.
• When I load my second menu item (directs to a specific category) K2 still displays my Joomla META description.
• When I load my third link (1 category, 1 subcategory) K2 still displays my Joomla META description.

As a result, the menu items that link to categories for K2 all have the same META description and keywords. You can see this on my live site.

K2 Content module+CSS & HTML Formatting disappears?

Category: English K2 Community

but you see when the intro text is not displayed by the k2 content mod, it allows you to use breaks/returns but if goes through the mod it strips them of this...

The Joomla global meta tags are placed on all of my K2 menu items that link to categories.  I can't seem to find a location to edit these tags.
Anybody know what's up?

Google Detects Duplicate Titles and Description Meta Tags with K2

Category: English K2 Community

Hello Darren!

Maybe I can still help you. I had the same problem today and found a solution. Please go to the line 114 in <joomlaroot>/components/com_k2/templates/default/item.php and change it to:

<a class="modal itemPrintLink" href="<?php echo $this->item->printLink; ?>" onclick="window.open(this.href,'win2','status=no,toolbar=no,scrollbars=yes,titlebar=no,menubar=no,resizable=yes,width=900,height=500,directories=no,location=no'); return false;" rel="nofollow">

Before this change the attribute rel was reserved with a handler which opens an iframe. But you need the attribute rel reserved with nofollow to let Google and other search bots know not to follow this link (like mehdi mentioned). What I did with the additional attribute onclick is to copy the behaviour of the normal Joomla! print button. A new window will be opened. Just try it out.

Suggestions for fix?Screenshot attached(From Release Notes: New tagging system introduces 2 ways to add tags: via a selection based tagging option (as used in 2.1) or a new super cool free-tagging option with auto-suggest features)

Url rewriting of K2 articles using SEF Advanced : problem with url with accents

Category: English K2 Community

Hi, what about searching by multi-word tags?

In my URL there are empty spaces which give URL like this: www.site.pl/component/k2/itemlist/tag/word1%20word2%20word3.html

I found this post but it doesn't solve my problem:

K2 tag link plugin

Category: English K2 Community

Hi Rex,

The goal is to not include custom tags that link to k2 tags but really try to detect k2 tags in text by a secure mean which doesn't corrup the text.

I'm searching in php functions like preg_replace which i think is the solution.

Hi:

Thanks for this post. I was having the same problem. I was losing formatting in my categories. Turning off the HTML clean up function solved the problem.

K2 tag link plugin

Category: English K2 Community

Oliver,
Thanks for your efforts. This plugin looks very promissing. A few things I've noticed using J!1.5.15 and K2.v2.

I'm testing an embedded contact form from each k2 item using JoomlaForms from Phil Taylor. The form uses the page title (of the k2 item) as the subject line of the email and embeds a referlink in the email to let the admin know from where/what item the form came from. With your plugin off, the forms works as desired. When your plugin is activated, it strips both the pagetitle and referlink from the resulting email. I realize you are in beta with your plugin and the form plugin is not your creation, but if your plugin interferes with this plugin, it might also be interferring with other plugins as well. This is why I let you know.

In your intro of the plugin above, you mention some TODO steps and so it's possible that you are already aware of this.
===============================
TODO :
-Add params to select where the plugin takes effect
===============================

Looking forward to seeing you progress.

Hi all,

I have modified file in "components\com_k2\sef_ext\com_k2.php" as it was mentioned before, changing:

case 'tag':
$title[] = 'tag';
$title[] = $tag;
break;

into

case 'tag':
$title[] = 'tag';
$title[] = str_replace('%20','-',$tag);
break;

and

case 'tag':
$tag=str_replace('%20','-',$tag);
$tag=str_replace('+','-',$tag);
$title[] = $tag;
break;

as well, but it doesn't work. I don't use sh404sef but normal SEF from joomla core.

Can you please help me with this issue?

scott said:Hi, I tried moving the file, making the changes but it seems sh404sef is not picking up the K2 file that was placed in "components\com_sh404sef\sef_ext\", so I just edited the original file at "components\com_k2\sef_ext\" with the above changes and it works, thanks

Adding sub categories to existing website

Sounds like this makes sense. I will try to follow your steps and hopefully things will work out. I will backup my site first, even though it is still in the development stage.

Thanks for the help. It is much appreciated!

K2Joom said:Hi Steve, OK, you have fallen at the first hurdle.

Joomla Articles/Sections/Categories are no longer needed when using K2 Items and Categories.
You can import your Joomla Articles into K2, as ther is an Import icon in the top right of the K2 control panel.

When you import to K2, it automatically converts your Joomla Sections to K2 Categories and you Joomla Categories to K2 Sub Categories relative to how they were store in Joomla.

The data is not lost, you will still have the original content and new K2 content,

At this stage, your front end will still be showing Joomla content.

You will now have to go and modify your menus to point to the newly created K2 items or categories.
Once you start linking menus to k2 content, then you will start to see it appear on the front end.

You will have to configure your K2 categories as there is a lot of parameters to aid in layoying out the content.

There is additional information and guides at k2joom.com which I created when I first started using K2 a couple of months.

Any questions, then post away.

Simon

I was having the same issue - tag strip was set to "No" but tags were still stripped. Removing numbers from the introtext limit solved the problem. Thanks!

Piotr said:Hey. Make sure not to forget to remove any numbers in the Introtext word limit (Category > Item view options in category listings).

That's a K2 feature to prevent html breaking (K2 would cut the code before closing tags)

Hi there,
the category search (in the menu) uses the definitions of the accoring module. Nice to tune and easy to handle.
If I search by tags, which I use as a replacement for a second categoriy, the result is always shown as a list of full articles, nothing to customize. Any idea, how I can tell the component to use the settings of a catogory or where to define the view of tag-based search?
