What did you use to upgrade Joomla to 1.7? Jupgrade or something else?

Category: English K2 Community

I finally got Jupgrade to work, after switching to the default Joomla! template, disabling all the modules and plugins, and after having to disable the modules (in groups according to their component) and plugins (accordign to their component), it seemed to me that the K2tools was what was conflicting with the MooTools Upgrade plugin (MooTools.version kept showing up in the browser console (chrome, ff and ie) as version 1.11 instead of 1.2.4.

I upgraded initially to Joomla! 1.7 and the K2 SVN 2.5(RC) showed up in the component list but I couldn't make any menu items of it work, as it wasn't even acknowledged by Joomla - it kept saying in the menu manager that "K2 component doesn't exist"...

So I had to start over and upgrade to Joomla v1.6.6 and now at least in the menu manager it recognises that it exists as an installed component, but I'm having other issues, for which I will post a separate thread.

Anyway, I hope this helps someone at least. :)

[SOLVED] Ratings in k2 does not work

Category: English K2 Community

Update: I disabled K2 plugins to see what would happen.  The "addEvent" problem left, but I found a number of mootools errors.  I searched "mootools" in my Joomla plugin manager and found "System - Upgrade Mootools" was disabled.  After enabling it, my jQuery rating system works fine.  I turned K2 back on to find the "addEvent" error still there, but the rating system still works.

So, try turning on "Upgrade Mootools" and if that doesn't work, I dunno.

I'd like to get rid of this "addEvent" error, but if it's not causing any real problems then I guess it's not a big deal.

K2 Migration

Category: English K2 Community

I've tried and tried with Jupgrade, with having Joomla 1.5.23 and K2 2.4.1 and the Start Upgrade button does nothing - absolutely nothing - in Chrome, FF and IE because of some issue with MooTools, despite the fact that I have MooTools Upgrade latest and greatest installed and set to 1.2 for both front & back end, all browsers show that it is v1.11 - ugh.

On the Jupgrade dev's site it says that it supports K2 now, but that does me no good since it just doesn't work for me at all... and the developer is about as communicative as the K2 developers are.

What did everyone else use to upgrade to Joomla 1.6? I'm open to any suggestions at this point, I am so sick of  trying to get Jupgrade to work - I was actually told on their forum that perhaps it was a good idea to start drinking :D

What did you use to upgrade Joomla to 1.7? Jupgrade or something else?

Category: English K2 Community

I'm at the point now to upgrade Joomla! to version 1.7, and have tried Jupgrade, simply because it supposedly handles migrating the K2 items as well as core Joomla items. It has not worked for me because of the MooTools version, and after spending an entire day (and a total lack of official support), I'm looking at alternatives.

So my question to you all is  - what did you use? And how did it go?

And I'll have to try using the RC version of K2 because I don't know how to migrate the K2 content to Seblod or Zoo, otherwise, like many, I would just totally abandon K2 [not for all the wonderful and helpful people here, but because of the unprofessionality of the K2 developers]

K2 for joomla 1.6 does not display all items

Category: English K2 Community

Hello,

I am new K2 user. I am using K2 on joomla 1.6 and I have problem. Sometimes when I am adding new items from back end panel, K2 does not display them at front end panel. When I check at back end, they exist, but I can not see them at front end. I do not have the problem always, sometimes works great. I am using some upgrade for K2 form J 1.5 to 16.

Any solutions?

There is also a tutorial here: hide-empty-k2-extra-fields-in-joomla which shows you how to use the joomla override feature with your template so that you don't break your K2 component or get your changes overwritten when you upgrade your K2.

This tutorial hides the empty fields very simply with 2 lines of code.

[UPDATE] August 23rd, 2011: Frontpage Slideshow v3.0.1 has been released

Category: Frontpage Slideshow

We have just released a minor update to Frontpage Slideshow, version 3.0.1.

This update fixes/adds/updates the following:
- Replaced Joomla date picker with jQuery UI date picker
- Add source type info in the slides list (e.g. Joomla! Article, K2 etc.)
- Add parameter check in "Movies" and "Uncut" slideshows for title and tagline (used in the navigation bar)
- New option added in the module and component menu item to completely disable jQuery if you already load it in your site and options to either load the library from a local copy (great for offline site building) or from Google's CDN. The slideshow engine is compatible with jQuery 1.5.x+ and we have included the latest 1.5 and 1.6 releases of jQuery.
- Moved jQuery's "no conflict" option within the slideshow engine script to address issues occurred in some sites with Mootools code being fired inbetween the slideshow engine and the initializer script, causing JavaScript conflicts.
- Corrected PHP warnings showing up in some server setups.
- Fixed "menu itemid" being added to slides using menu items as links, which pointed to external URLs (no need for the menu itemid).

Since v3.0.0, Frontpage Slideshow is fully compatible with Joomla! 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7. To learn more, please read the updated product page at: www.joomlaworks.net/frontpage-slideshow

DOWNLOAD
You can download this version by logging into our PDS system at www.joomlaworks.net/pds or by email (which we have already sent to our newest customers).

IMPORTANT: SUPPORT FOR OLDER VERSIONS
With this new release, we are ceasing support for older versions 1.x.x and 2.x.x. We have moved all the posts regarding these versions in a new read-only board here: forum.joomlaworks.net/frontpage-slideshow-v1-v2-(for-joomla!)/

You can use it for your reference, but you cannot post new issues there.

If you use Joomla! 1.5 and v2.x.x of Frontpage Slideshow, we highly recommend you upgrade to v3.x.x to actively be supported.

UPGRADING
If you have v2.9.x installed in your system and want to upgrade to v3.x.x, you need to FRIST UNINSTALL the old version and install the new one, as both the database and slide image structure is changed in this newer version.

For more, please see the updated documentation page at: www.joomlaworks.net/content/view/71/41/

display extra field groups on category page

Category: English K2 Community

hi,

first of all - this is my first post, and i got to say that k2 has really upgraded my joomla abillities, so thank you for developing this extension!

my question is this -

is it possible to display the extra field group that is assigned to the category on ites category view page?

to visualize what i need check out this page on dhgate - look on the left side ('refine your search')
www.dhgate.com/wholesale-hoody/OjpSMlZ1WkdWeQ%253D%253D-OjpUV1Z1/s014001006.html#DCP014022-L1-01
imagine that the left side is the extra field group, and every option group (for example - material) is an extra field.
is this possible with some php programming? and of course, what is exactly ? :)
if not - is it possible to contact you guys in order for you to make this for me custum made?

Where and when I can download K2 for Joomla 1.7?

Category: English K2 Community

The RC is yet available here getk2.org/svnDownload.php

But it can't be used for production sites. I hope the team will soon release the definitive version!

In the meantime i've made the migration from joomla 1.5 + k2 2.4 to Joomla! 1.7 + k2 2.5 RC

I'm going to write how i made the upgrade (the italian version of the guide is ready, i've to translate it to english!).

PHP Upgrade Broke My Site

Category: English K2 Community

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but it's been so long I feel like a noob again. So, lemme see if i can succinctly spell out the problems...

I am hosting a Joomla/K2 site on Go Daddy: carissaandjaye.com

Everything was running fine until a PHP4 to PHP5 upgrade was performed. Now I get the dreaded Fatal Error msg:

Warning: require_once(/includes/version.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/t/e/a/teamcj/html/includes/joomla.php on line 71 Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/includes/version.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php') in /home/content/t/e/a/teamcj/html/includes/joomla.php on line 71

The error seems to stem from an improper value in the $mosConfig_absolute_path variable. I've already run the $path = getcwd(); trick to get the absolute path...which is also revealed in the above error: /home/content/t/e/a/teamcj/html.

If I go into the includes/joomla.php file and hard code the value of the absolute path on line 71, it resolves the error...but, of course, pushes the error on down the line where ever the variable is used.

I've been going round and round with Go Daddy's support, so I've been scouring for solutions elsewhere. I have some unknowns I need to resolve in order to fix the issue and having installed K2 seems to add another layer of questions. Now, on to the issues:

1) Does K2 alter the configuration.php file?

Other forums suggest that $mosConfig_absolute_path is set in the configuration.php file in the root of the site. however, this variable as well as a few others (cache, etc) are not listed there. I have not ever messed with the file until now, so not sure why these vars are missing or where they are now being set. I was wondering if K2 rewrote the config file and moved the variable declarations somewhere else during installation.

I've tried adding the variable declaration to the config file, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

2) How do I verify what versions of Joomla & K2 I have installed?

I know you are already asking it as you read this and I wish I had a confident answer about versions, but I don't. Since I cannot load the site nor access the admin area of the site, how can I tell which version of Joomla and K2 I am running? I do have access to the files thru FTP and I've been poking around looking for version numbers to no avail. Go Daddy's hosting connection panel says I am running Joomla 1.0.13 but I am not sure that is correct...did K2 support that early version?

3) The database is intact, can I do a clean install and link it to the old database?

I am hoping there is a simple and painless solution to the current problem, but worst case, can I just do a clean install and update to newer versions of Joomla & K2 and point it to the database? I thought there was some incompatibility issues with old and and new versions of K2 and Joomla that prevented this, but that was a few years ago when I looked into the idea.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Making easy use of K2 with items and pagination

Category: English K2 Community

For the date : Open components/com_k2/templates/default/item.php -> look for line 47

Change

<?php echo JHTML::_('date', $this->item->created , JText::_('K2_DATE_FORMAT_LC2')); ?>

To

<?php echo JHTML::_('date', $this->item->created , JText::_('K2_DATE_FORMAT')); ?>

this will give the date as 14/11/2008 - 9.50 <- which includes the time.

If you want to remove the time then you need to edit the language/en-GB.com_k2.ini -> look for line 78

Change :

K2_DATE_FORMAT="%d/%m/%Y - %H:%M"

To :

K2_DATE_FORMAT="%d/%m/%Y" <- remember to change back when you upgrade k2

As for editing the item.php file, it's better to use template overrides. See here

The pagination can be achieved with styling.

@Warrick van den Heever : i just installed the SIG pro 2.5.3 in Joomla 1.7 with K2 2.5 (SVN) and all works fine, i could even upload a zip file with images and it did show on the selected articles. Just some CSS issues only!!

Refer to the attached screenshots.

All the plugins I had bought for J1.5. have not caught up. All videos doesn't work, Gallery was not working (Yes I know it was upgraded but I could not get it to work with K2 it was not being recognised). I did not get an answer from the developers on why or how to fix it. Mark Foster said:
What problems have you found Warrick? as it seems ok to me apart from some minor css issues

Admittably, there's little new but for now I'm just pleased to have something I can move forward with.

Where and when I can download K2 for Joomla 1.7?

Here's the problem - K2 is such a great tool that it's being used by many professional developers and designers. Some of us have invested quite a bit in to K2 by committing to using K2 on client sites and developing extensions and plugins to work with K2. I've personally contributed 4 free GPL extensions for K2. I am heavily invested and would like to see K2 succeed.

However, I cannot tell a client that I am going to have to charge them to upgrade their site in April because I can't use the latest version of Joomla and K2 today. That is simply not an acceptable answer to someone paying thousands of dollars for a website. I also have to have an upgrade path for all of my other clients already on 1.5+K2. I can't wait until April to start upgrading them, I have to start now in order to have time to upgrade all of the sites before 1.5 EOL.

Six months ago it was an easy decision, wait until K2 v2.5 comes out then start upgrading. Today, it's not that easy. With no sign of a v2.5 stable release we have to have a solution. For a company that supports dozens of clients it's not as simple as just use another CCK until K2 is ready. There is a reason companies buy all the same brand and model computers for every employee, it's easier to support when everything is the same. Once we make the switch to another CCK, it will be a pain but we'll do it for every site that needs a CCK. It cost more money to support multiple CCKs.

That is going to start happening more and more, which is costing the K2 project not just users but also developers that contribute to this project. I'm in a really tough position right now because I can't afford to wait any longer. Clients to want to hear excuses they want to see their website live. We're building out our first Zoo site now and while it works differently, it seems to be able to do many of the things K2 does as well as some that K2 does not. I would prefer to continue using K2 but as Chris James already mentioned, if you fall behind you will never catch up.
