K2 News Ticker - News scroller for K2

Category: English K2 Community

Hello K2 Community,

K2 News Ticker V2 is released. We have received numerous requests from Joomla/K2 users to enhance the News Ticker and bring in new features. Now the enhanced News Ticker supports a number of K2 features including the Extra Fields and Comments.

K2 News Ticker now requires Mootools 1.2. All the Joomla 1.5.20+ versions have Mootools upgrade plugin. Just turn this plugin on and install the News ticker module. Set up the width, height and fill in the remaining params. All the params are self-explanatory. In a few minutes, you can have beautiful news ticker running in your website.

Note: The module requires Mootools 1.2 to work. So you have to upgrade. Please test your Joomla installation with Mootools upgrade plugin before you buy this module.

Module Features
- Mootools 1.2 based

- Supports almost all K2 features including extra-fields and comments counter

- User can either fetch items from a category and fetch single items from K2

- Provides 14 different animations

- Options to control speed and duration of the effects

-  Play / Pause controls

- You can use this also as an image scroller

- MVC structure

- Compatible with IE 7+, Firefox, Chrome and all modern browsers and many more...

Still cannot get comments to work. I have disabled different plugins one at a time to see if this made any difference, but nothing. The comments are out of alignment and once someone adds a comment it stills says "refreshing" it also publishes their email address which is something we do not want. Please help!

K2Joom said:Go to your K2 parameters, icon on top right side of K2 dashboard. Check and see if k2.css is enabled.

Also, ensure that all your K2 plugins are enabled.

Then report back.

Is there anyway I can revert to the older version of K2? I didn't have too many problems with that, but just can't seem to resolve the issues I have with the newer version. I haven't installed any additional components since the upgrade and whatever I have I need. Help!!

There are various discussion on the forums regarding SIG Free, some good some bad.
Although SIG Free has not K2 Support, it has been hacked, so do a forum search.

Which gallery style are you using? if jquery, try a mootols one and vice versa.

The alternative would be SIG Pro.

Mark Matheson said:I have now tracked the issue and know what is causing it.
This problem only occurs on K2 items that have images attached using SIG Free!!! If I remove the images from the item, the users name and email address is auto-populated, comments are added properly and the page refreshes.

As soon as I re-add the images using SIG Free, the problem returns.

Removing the images is not a solution!

Any suggestions other than buying SIG Pro?

Mark Matheson said:I have another website, using K2 and it works fine. Both websites use the same template, so it is unlikely to be the problem. I am currently looking at any plugins that are different between the two sites, but to date, can find none that have any effect.

Some additional information - I notice that when a user is logged in, their Name and email address are NOT auto-populated in the comments section of a K2 item. Does this sound like a JS Conflict?

K2Joom said:OK, sounds like a possible js conflict. Have you ever seen this work on your install? If you have, have you added any other components that might contain js that could cause a conflict?
If you have then disable them and retest.

Which Joomla template are you using?
Are you using the default K2 template or one within the Joomla template?

Look forward to your reply.

I am getting exactly the same problem. The page says "Comment added ... Refreshing Page", and nothing happens. The comment is actually added, but you need to manually refresh the page to get it to show.

The K2.css is ENABLED in my parameters, and Enable K2 Plugins is set to YES on the Category.

CHM said:Also, the comments no longer work. I submitted a comment, the page said "refreshing" and then nothing.

I just upgraded to the newest version and now there are many things wrong:
Titles are no longer linked
Increase font, email and print, are now in a list
Comments are squashed to the side
Share icons are now just text - also in a list

What can I do to resolve this.  Everything worked great until the upgrade

Gracias

CGI error when adding new item

Hi. I m afraid i cannot help you on this. As stated here "Whilst there is every chance that it will work with other systems, such as Windows IIS, these are not necessarily supported as fully/at all within the technical support community. " Joomla! itself does not officially support IIS so it maybe anything inside K2 or even a Joomla! API function that fails. What version of IIS are you using? Maybe try to upgrade to the latest one. Or even better switch to apache....

Stefan Buttigieg said:Dear Lefteris,
How can I get these log files?

And just to inform you that I'm still having a problem about this. Could other users kindly inspire me on how I can solve this problems.

Thanks
Stef

Lefteris Kavadas said:Hi. It is very difficult to find what's the problem on your case. Maybe if you take a look at the log files you might get some more info. Stefan Buttigieg said:Seriously Guys, I've been asking for help a number of times on this issue and I still get no answer at all. I will have to resort to shift my articles back to joomla because of this and I know that K2 is an extremely powerful component and it will be very time-consuming to do this shift. Can someone kindly please help me come up with a solution to this problem?
Thanks

Good news, FPSS is now fully functioning with the component - it can retrieve featured, latest, random 'items' as required. Oh, yes, this is with the Mosets Hot Property component, not with K2 (shame). A clever chap has made a bridge between the two - good for him and Hot Property users. Now seriously, when will JW release a K2 compatible version of their flagship commercial FPSS for their paid up/licenced customers? We've been sitting on unfulfilled promises since at least October 2009. Rocket Theme, Joomla Bamboo, Joomla Praise have all upgraded their similar products within that time, why not FPSS...or UCD??QAPBLX QTO

Tagging bug - after saving item tag functionality is disabled

Category: English K2 Community

Hi Jeanette,

OK, you do not have a tagging bug.
This is not a K2 issue as it is working, but most likely a js conflict.

I created a test item.
Added tags, saved.
Added image gallery, saved.
Added tag, saved.
Added video, saved.
Added tags, saved.

All no problem.
This is with SIG Pro using multibox with mootools.

So something else is causing this not too common issue.

I think that we can only speculate about it on this site.
This kind of question would get a better response over on the Joomla.org forums.

Sam M said:Great point. I was wondering about the conversion from sections/categories to nested categories in 1.6. Sections/categories seems like a wicked blunder from the start so it has to go....but that is some pretty nasty stuff actually, and I'm surprised more people are not freaking out about it.

Don't you think Joomla will offer some sort of upgrade utility that will port the sections and categories into the new structure?

K2Joom said:As commented by Joomlaworks: "K2 is supported by a solid Joomla! dev company, JoomlaWorks. We've been around for more than 3 years and plan to be around for even more. That means K2 will always be upgraded to meet the demands of true professionals (and newbies too).
If you build your website now with K2, you will migrate in a snap when J1.6 comes out, because K2 WILL SUPPORT J1.6 of course the day it becomes available as RC. The same upgrade path will not be possible from J1.5 articles to J1.6. This is because of the fundamental differences in the 2 versions. If you choose K2 in J1.5 now, you will just "move" your content to K2 in J1.6 and it will JUST play. That will not JUST happen if you currently use J1.5 core articles > J1.6 core articles. ;)"
