You don't have to disable anything, just to get the Captcha - ReCaptcha plugin working on K2 comment you have to follow these steps:

1 - ON www.google.com/recaptcha Go to
- USE reCAPTCHA ON YOUR SITE
- ADD Gmail account if you don't have, or log in if you have.
- Go MY ACCOUNT -> + Add a New Site
- Create a reCAPTCHA key -> ADD your Domain -> Create a Key.
- Copy (Public Key and then you will copy the Private Key)

2 - On your admin panel go to:
- Component -> K2 -> Parameters -> Comments-> Active reCaptcha -> Yes.
- Go to Component -> K2 -> Parameters -> Advanced -> Anti-spam.
- Past the two Key that you have from Google. (Public and Private Key)
-> Refresh you site and you got it ^_^

IF YOU STILL DON'T HAVE THE CAPTCHA WORKING:
Make sure you have enabled the K2 plugin and Comments on the Category options.
That should be resolving your problem.

- IF, IF that is still not working:
- Go to your site
- Click " F12 " on Google Chrom / Control+F12 (Firebugs, Firefox)
- Refresh your web site
- If you have a JavaScript errors try to find what is your problems and solutions.
- Last thing if you don't have any JS problem, You should re-install joomla xD

That is all
Thank you, your brother from Tunisia :)

Many thanks this worked for me.

[SOLVED] Captcha error in registration form

Category: English K2 Community

Hello, I'm having trouble with the registration form and reCaptcha, it is not recognizing the words entered:

Attachment not found

After this, the system displays: The words you entered did not match those shown. Please try again.

Since I tried several times in different browsers and got the same result, I disabled the plugin and set it to NO in k2 parameters, but then it appears this error when I try to registrate a new user:

Fatal error: Call to a member function checkAnswer() on a non-object in /libraries/cms/form/rule/captcha.php on line 52

Does anyone knows how to fix this?

Another recaptcha problem

Category: English K2 Community

Solved :)

I was using recaptcha keys from another domain - Doh!

I would like to say though that I think the captcha functionality should be more flexible - I really do not like Google's recpatcha as many of the images/words are completely unreadable. I know you can request another image but that is a pain.

I also have a dual language site and so would prefer to use another captcha plugin which is easier for my Chinese readers to use.

I know that K2 is a free component so cannot moan too much but considering the awesome power of K2 it is a pity the captcha/anti spam functionality is quite crude.

Have a good day all :)

Comments, name and email already in use.....

Category: English K2 Community

I have this issue as well with J2.5.4 and K2 2.5.4 :(

Maybe I misunderstand the intention, but I can't see how suppressing the message "Email Address you typed is already in use" will help in this case, as the comment is never being posted and therefore does not bring the user further :(

I've seen a solution on TemplateMonster where you disable the email check entirely, but this does not work for me as the submitting of the comment does not seem to happen either. All I get is a spinning progress-wheel under the Captcha, which never stops...

Doen anybody have other take on this?

Edit: Not sure why, but giving the solution from TemplateMonster another go, actually solved my problem! Seems to work for me now..!

Three (3) questions about K2 & community

Category: English K2 Community

Hello all

I've been using K2 for a few sites now but have some questions I haven't seen solved in the forums.

Maybe they are somewhat basic, but address common problems of building professional sites with K2.

1) How to parse joomla plugins in the K2 user profile?

Since it's possible to always display the user profile after articles (being it a blogger, a company or a product seller), parsing joomla plugins within it allows us to, for example, include a contact form or atbs or even some additional info, that can't be acomplished with the current extra fields or even external coms like Sherpa. So, what do on has to change in K2 to allow for parsing of joomla plugins in the user profile area?

2) Is there a simple way of adding recaptcha to the K2 registration form?

I've seen a couple of workarounds in the forums, some of them leading to conflicts with other recaptcha solutions installed in the site. Pardon me all that have invested time and dedication in bringing the solutons found in the forum, but If tried them all and none worked flawlessly. Yes, one can argue that is because of the template or maybe because of another recaptcha comp installed, but still all involved hacking the code and not having a stable solution. So, anyone has a solution for this?

3) What is the component used for the K2 community registration?

Sort of off-topic, but it's a nice registration process and forms.

thanks in advance

Deleting K2 comments - plugin suggestion

Category: English K2 Community

It happens now and then that there is a need to clean out some thousand comments because somehow a spammer found a way to bombard you with crap.

First - turn on reCaptcha.

BUT - how do we delete it?

One method is to use PhpMyAdmin and delete the content of the k2_comments table.

What I really would like to see is a new K2 plugin that do one thing for us - mark all comments as unpublished.

If we could do this, we then could go and mark the valid comments as published, then click "Delete all unpublished". And the problem would be solved...

Is anyone up for this? Make a plugin that unpublish ALL comments - not only the ones you can list on a page.

reCaptcha Problems

Category: English K2 Community

This issue has plagued me before and now has returned. Several other people and I have posted about the issue of reCaptcha appearing momentarily and then disappearing. I have had K2 2.2 with comments and reCaptcha working on a site for a year. For some reason this week the issue has cropped up again where the reCaptcha disappears.Last time I refreshed the /template/rt_affinity15/html/com_k2 folder and double-checked the domain at recaptcha.net and was able to finally resolved the issue. This time nothing is working. It seems there is some kind of AJAX scripting problems that make it very sensitive to breaking.Any ideas on what to look at would be appreciated. At them moment I have reCaptcha turned off so that users can comment. But, I fear I am now going to have to deal with spammers. I spent hours now reading all of the articles on reCaptcha on the K2 community site and the template provider, Rockettheme, and have come up with nothing. Thanks again Joomlaworks for a great component.

Solved: the k2.css references the images to ../images/social/reddit.png etc. I found the images in ../templates/MYTEMPLATE/images/social/ were GIF and not PNG. I uploaded the PNGs and all is good! :-)

I have resolved it, simply by adding the proper public/private keys for reCaptcha.

If you're still having a problem, double check that your keys are correct, AND that you didn't flip-flop the public / private.

Remember that the root of the problem was a script error. In my case (and Kat's), that script error was caused by not having our keys properly input for Comments, but that doesn't necessarily mean that your error isn't coming from some other script conflict. If your keys are correct and you're CSS is still broken, try disabling comments entirely and see if you get any change. If not, the problem is somewhere else. Try viewing it in every browser you can, looking for more clues that might determine what's making the mess. And if it comes down to it, disable extensions and plug-ins one-by-one until something works.

Good luck getting everything up and running, and please keep us posted on the progress. Just hang in there... K2 has too much potential to just walk away, and I'm sure the bugs will all get worked out eventually.
