K2 2.54 -> 2.55 upgrade failure... was created by Ingmar Gutberlet

K2 2.54 -> 2.55 upgrade failure...

Category: English K2 Community

Hi,

I am trying to upgrade my Joomla 1.5.23 site from K2 2.54 to 2.55 but fail to get the upgrade to work.

When I upload and install the 2.55 zip I receive the error message...

JInstaller::install: Error! Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package.
Unable to detect manifest file

but below that the message "Install Component Success" is shown and needless to say, the ZIP file does contain a manifest.xml file.

After that my site is compromised with font sizes being changed, erratic behavior and error messages such as ...

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /homepages/0/dxxxxxxxxx/htdocs/websitek2/libraries/joomla/database/database/mysql.php on line 678
Warning: array_key_exists() [function.array-key-exists]: The second argument should be either an array or an object in /homepages/0/dxxxxxxxxxx/htdocs/websitek2/plugins/system/k2.php on line 344

being shown at the top (site ID x'ed out for privacy reasons).

I can remedy this problem by downgrading to 2.54, but would of course like to benefit from the cool new features of 2.55. Is there anything I have to do in prep for the upgrade process? Previous upgrades worked like a charm...

Regards,
Ingmar

Yani Joomla sitenize birden fazla dil seçeneği eklemenizi sağlayan JoomFish'in, Joomla 2.5 sürümüne uyarlanmış hali olan FaLang desteği artık K2 bileşeninde. Böylece K2 içeriklerinizi birden fazla dilde sunabilirsiniz.

Son sürüm K2 bileşeni kurulum paketi indirmek için: K2 2.5.5 İndir | K2 2.5.5 Türkçe Dil Dosyası

Multiple categories for 1 item?

Category: English K2 Community

I would love to have multiple categories as well but from everything I have read in my ventures across the interwebs... I have found that multiple categories can wreak havoc on SEO... Beside that and actually more important to me is compatibility.
I have been around Joomla long enough to know that relying on one extension could box me in so I am wary about just installing something to get functionality I think I need.

With all that said, I chose K2 - primarily because it is a strong community, great extension and seems to get upgraded VERY fast to keep up with the newest Joomla. (Over the last couple of years I had developed using Mighty Extensions which is still stuck on Joomla 1.5 with 1.7 compatibility being released in July).

So now I have K2... I would love multiple categories because my items need to be somewhat interlinked. So here is what I did:

1. Created MAIN categories for what the item actually is. For example:
- Songs
- Artists
- Labels
A song is a song and cannot be an artist and an artist cannot be a label,etc.. so it works right?
2. I needed something to interconnect features of the items within the categories.. For Example
- Song has an Artist which I TAG and a Label which I TAG
- Artist has the Artist TAG (shows up in same results as the song with same tag)
3. I actually use extra fields that I have customized to link directly to the tag

In summary - I may end up have hundreds of tags but only my 3 major categories. I realized I did not need multiple categories for each item when I can simply use multiple tags and customized templates.

Hope this helps!

Impossible d'importer les articles/catégories

Category: Communauté française K2

Bonjour,

Fatal error: Class 'JSimpleXML' not found in /home/www/7c958c198287bc73e43dc0c42f75ee72/web/jupgrade/administrator/components/com_k2/models/items.php on line 730

I have a J1.5 site which I'm planning to upgrade to 2.5 shortly. I have a lot of content which is already in K2 article format. It's one of the largest sites on my host's cloud servers. What's the best way to approach this?
Create a new J2.5 installation and import from the 1.5 version?

Thanks for any suggestions

Editor only displays basic icons? V2.5.4

Category: English K2 Community

Cannot seem to get the extended menu of icons in the editor. All I can see are the most basic options on the Editor. The site was upgraded to current versions of Joomla and K2. Using Gantry is that matters.

A nudge in the right direction would be appreciated as I try to understand all the interactions between pieces of the puzzle :)

I just upgraded to K2 v2.5.4 on Joomla 1.5 and am now receiving this error. While I haven't uploaded an attachment in a while, prior to the upgrade, I did not receive the error. I have tried ZIP as well as PDF files and both render the same error and did not attach anything to the post.

Could you please be more specific on the fix for your specific issue?

In K2 parameters configuration > Advanced, the field was blank for default. I made several changes referencing the default folder manually and others I created, and attachments still did not work. Though, when I did add a new directory under (media/k2/attachments) such as (media/k2/attachments/test), the error went away and the item showed on the front end and back end that it attached, but the was not there in the test directory and on the front end it rendered a 404 error.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It happened to me too.

Solution: Uninstall the plugin. But offcourse you are not able to see your front end right and neither the back-end, so you should go to your mysql database find the table with the plugin, search for something like active = 1, Turn it off with active = 0. Something like that. Then you will be able to get in again into your template.

I am sure must of your problem are running around permissions in your hosting. So you should take a look there too and change permission 644 to 755. After that you are sure you will be able to upgrade your ja_plugins and etz.

So upgrade your Ja_components download the Ja_Typo Plugin again and install it, after that you will not face more problems with upgrading.

Let me know if this help you.

[UPDATE] February 20th, 2012: Frontpage Slideshow v3.2.0 has been released

Category: Frontpage Slideshow

We have just released an update to Frontpage Slideshow, version 3.2.0. This new release improves integration with Joomla! 1.7/2.5, now fully utilizing the built-in Joomla! ACL for even more control on slideshow creation.

More particularly, this update fixes/adds/updates the following:
- Full integration with Joomla! 1.7/2.5 ACL
- New slideshow template "KeeSports". See the demo here: demo.joomlaworks.net/frontpage-slideshow/keesports-template
- Slides created from K2 items will now import the "original" K2 item image and resize it - the resulting image quality is better (previously we used the XL image size which could accidentally be adjusted to small dimensions).
- Fixed a problem caused by the RokCandy plugin, where you could not select a Joomla! article (to import its contents as a slide).
- JCE can now be used as the WYSIWYG editor in the slide edit page (if installed).
- For slideshow template developers: the "timer" can now operate both horizontally and vertically. Everything is CSS controlled as usually.

Since v3.1.0, Frontpage Slideshow is fully compatible with Joomla! versions 1.5 to 2.5. To learn more, please read the updated product page at: www.joomlaworks.net/frontpage-slideshow

DOWNLOAD
You can download this version by logging into our PDS system at www.joomlaworks.net/pds or by email (which we have already sent to our newest customers).

IMPORTANT: SUPPORT FOR OLDER VERSIONS
With this new release, we are ceasing support for older versions 1.x.x and 2.x.x. We have moved all the posts regarding these versions in a new read-only board here: forum.joomlaworks.net/frontpage-slideshow-v1-v2-(for-joomla!)/

You can use it for your reference, but you cannot post new issues there.

If you use Joomla! 1.5 and v2.x.x of Frontpage Slideshow, we highly recommend you upgrade to v3.x.x to actively be supported.

UPGRADING
If you have v2.9.x installed in your system and want to upgrade to v3.x.x, you need to FIRST UNINSTALL the old version and install the new one, as both the database and slide image structure is changed in this newer version.

For more, please see the updated documentation page at: www.joomlaworks.net/content/view/71/41/

There are database changes between 1.5 and 2.5
use jupgrade to get all the k2 tables copied
there is a thread on here to get a few quirks fixed, 2 lines in phpmyadmin sql box
then do a sql dump and import all the files into your 2.5 install
should work then

From J1.5 to J2.5

Hi there,

I have been running a blog using k2 for about a year and a half. I would like to upgrade it to 2.5 but have decided to redesign the site from scratch. How can I import the old database into the new site? I tried just a straight import from phpmyadmin and, while the DB successfully imported, none of the k2 articles are registering in the backend. I'm sure I'm making some newbie mistakes here but would really appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction. One thing I noticed was that the prefix in the DB was different from 1.5( jos ) to 2.5 (x2yde). There are hundreds of blog posts so importing them would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

Seth

Kevin,

Please let me know which module you are looking at. I will take a look at it and see if it is something feasible to accomplish. JUST KEEP IN MIND - Modifying a module is a hack and any upgrades to K2 would overwrite those changes.

403 error when moving mysql tables to J! 2.5

Category: English K2 Community

Well this error happens when i didn't use jupgrade (i did use it but that gave me another error).

When I try to access any part of the K2 component I get a 403 error. But i will take another look at the permissions.

Also all of this happens in the FRONTEND. Back-end works fine! :)

403 error when moving mysql tables to J! 2.5

Category: English K2 Community

So i decided to upgrade to joomla 2.5 and i'm testing the new setup. I am trying to move my K2 database over to the new joomla. But after importing the K2 tables I get a 403 error when I try to access ANY K2 item or anything related to K2.

I already changed the userid's for every entry to the current super user but it won't work.

What am I missing here? Is there a better way to move k2 to the new joomla installation?

Thanks!
