Comment Module Bug and Add Item Bug

Category: English K2 Community

I already post this Bug but seems there's no fix nor right answer.
Here is my Set-up
1. I'm Using the latest Joomla 1.5
2. I'm Using the latest release of K2 which is K2 version 2.1
3. I'm using the Rocket-theme Afterburner template..
4. My Screen Resolution is 1024x768
5. And a firefox browser the latest version
Here is the bug

this image is the mod_k2_content As you can see the underscore of WRITTEN_BY_MALE << how can I move those underscore and that MALE tag

This is the front end add Item entry, as you can see the upper part of the item,
-The logo of the k2 is cut-off
-The save and cancel button cut-off

Hope somebody got some quick fix to this Bug,

Thanks,

Problems with URL rewriting

Category: English K2 Community

Oke... My host uses the IIRF filter for URL-rewriting. It works just perfect, but I have problems with the rewriting of K2 categories.

K2 items and tags are rewriten on the right way, but categories are giving an error.

So the category url: (build like this:)
index.php?option=com_k2&view=$1&layout=$2&task=$3&id=$4&Itemid=$5

has to be rewriten in something like this:

/category-name/ OR k2/category-name or everything else what's in someway a kind of SEF.

Thank you!

@Cristina : If they did not delete old posts you would understand. There is no sef problem. My issue is about software. We should install sh404sef to generate great sef urls. There is a slight problem. sh404sef generates sef urls for every link in the site and stores all of them in one database table.

When database tables get bigger, it is hard deal with them. Because indexes may be damaged. If K2 can generate SEF urls by using core joomla sef, it will be more comfortable. On the other hand sh404Sef IS A COMMERCIAL PRODUCT anymore.

@Mathew : I did not say my web site had not been indexed in the past. If a link to my web site without description is condired to be indexed, then yes! My web site was indexed. On the other hand, my extension and joomla knowledge is good enough to know about SuperBlogger. If I wanted a ready to use blog software, then I would use Wordpress. My purpose is to realize it with Joomla.

I am trying to make K2 better. I published discussion about solving multiple words tag links problem, then the developer responded : "Hi. The sh404SEF plugin for K2 is under development. Thanks for your commitment.". It is not a warm response. I could not share the information but it is open source. I help people as much as I can do in my spare time.

And now, everyone pushing on me. Matthew behaves like a hitman, hired to shut me up. He responded me an I thanked him but still the same things.

I give up my friends. Let K2 develop without me. You bright people will make him better in a short time I am sure.

To summarize;

I am a joomla profesional. I establihed many web sites. I am following K2 from the first release. I waited until it gets stable. Finally it is stable and I used K2. However google indexed the other web sites I created on the same day despite I did not informed them but when I use K2 google do not index any of my pages.

This is not a bug but I wanted to take your attention and considered it as conceptual bug.

1. K2 must have native joomla suppurt because sh404SEF is a commercial component anymore. On the other hand K2 can deal with keywords and description tags more professional than sh404sef.
2. I do not want to explain what is ping back to professional web programmer.
3. I know I can edit my meta tags but I want K2 can deal with this on th fly. Please just take a look at JoomSeo Plugin, you would understand what I am saying.

My post was not a bug report for software failures.

Hi. My problem is simple.

Google does not index my web site. It is the most simple ve important problem that K2 should solve. I installed sh404sef, sef Service Map 2, Joomseo plugin, Xmap plugin for K2, did many improvements. I used google web master tools, analytics, published my web site on many web sites. but no... Nothing happens. Google index the other web sites containing my website name but do not index my web site.

If K2 wants to measure itself with wordpress, I think it should have;

1. Native Joomla Sef support. If you want to see examples, please take a look at new Mosets Tree Ver.2.1. I use this component and it is perfect.
3. K2 should have a ping back mechanism to release us from SEF SM.
2. K2 Should create a siteMap to use with google to release us from SEF SM.
4. Meta Tags, Description Tag and the other Header Tags related to content, should be created on the fly.

I think the most important bug is K2 is not compatible with search engines.

My web site is www.pazarilla.com

It is online for one week and if you type in "pazarilla" in google and search, you can not see my web site in results. If you type "pazarilla.com" google asks you the famous "Did you mean" question.
:D

Instead of adding features, you should improve your very initial competitor. Wordpress. You should override wordpress, not joomla.

Thanks again.

K2 Titles

thanks alot! it works =) BUT now i lost my META TAGS :(
anyone can write meta_ext for k2? please..

Catalin Popescu said:Hey guys I discovered a way to at least have the article title displayed correctly (instead of the alias). The parent-category "train" isn't displayed but it's ok anyway. Add in ROOT_J!/components/com_sh404sef/meta_ext/ an empty file called com_k2.php.
I assume without this one, sh404sef uses some default settings, maybe even com_content.
The k2 guys have created a com_k2.php file for the /sef_ext folder, that is why links are ok. But there's also one needed for the meta: this is the way sh404sef works...
if anyone knows how to do it... would be G.R.E.A.T. :)

In addition, it would be great to also be able to choose the categories you want displayed and then filter it further by choosing specific tags. IE: choose all categories but only the "extended vacations" tag.

K2 footer jacked on non-single item pages

Category: English K2 Community

Ok I'm breaking down and asking for help. When I view a single item everything looks normal. However, if I choose to view multiple items such as the K2 Main page, by category, by author or by tag, then my layout is jacked up. The width appears to be too wide and does not fit in my theme design. Sometimes the K2 footer image is displayed in the breadcrumb area and in all cases the footer of my joomla theme itself is altered or gone completely.

I just converted from Wordpress to Joomla so I'm out of ideas. I was guessing it just needed a small CSS tweek but I can't find anything.

Here's a single item page (everything looks normal) ... link

Here's the main page (notice the footer graphic is in the breadcrumb area) .. link

View by category (both K2 and theme footer is gone) ... link

View by Tag ( it's all jacked up at the bottom) ... link

My first thought was that my theme just didn't click with K2 .... I've tried 3 themes and the same thing happens in all of them.

Lyle Chamney said:Bonjour, 1) those are now part of the K2 Tools module :) There are now 4 K2 modules that get installed: Comments, Content, Login and Tools

2) this is accomplished by setting the Home Page (in the demo instance) menu type to K2 > Item Listings > Categories and setting the Parameters as required :)

Cheers!

yes, its about simple attribution only. and the front page is fine, mod_k2_content handles that perfectly. the problem arises when you call a menu item - tag in cat. in your case its the issues menu. then the author atribution is missing, and its the generic template of k2 that does not have an author attribution in it. and here is the point where i still try finding a solution.

Kelsey Brookes said:How much author information do you want to display? Each article or extract on my front page gives an author attribution - just not a full photo, bio, etc. I'm not sure if the mod_k2_content can handle that, but the minimalist version was also my choice.

It's the content of a K2 item that causes the problem. That's why when you disable K2 the site works fine.

Documentation for Blogging

Category: English K2 Community

I dont think people need to be super administrators to write blogs.. What I can suggest is this:

1. Define a category in K2 called "Blogs"
2. Build a menu item with K2 Category type.. This is going to be your Blog Page.. Set this page to pick items from "Blog" category
3. Allow all pastrol staff to be Authors. For putting any blogs, they should Log into the System, as authors, go to Component >> K2 >> Add item and add the blog item.. Ensuring that it is put in the "Blogs" category.
4. Once they save the item, it will be displayed in the Blogs section... You can also add tags for these blog items, which will make it easy for readers to read related stuff...

Hope this is what you wanted to do..

Regards

Other component integration i.e. HWDMedia

Category: English K2 Community

Im using other components like HWDMediaShare and was wondering if there are any intentions to have easy integration of these into K2, I would use the video tab but I want a searchable database of videos and also be able to insert them into content if needed. Currently I upload to HWD and that is its own area which is searchable and a youtube style then use the plugin to insert a video from there into an article.

Something along the lines of a tab to insert the tag easier, or ability for video tab to use other components would be perfect.

All instances of tag link to tag menu item

Category: English K2 Community

Okay, I guess that makes sense for the menu items that are only filtered by tag but it's a problem for the ones that are filtered by tag and category. On the site I'm building, you can be reading posts in a specific category and click on a tag and it will take you to a page that's filtered by that tag and a completely different category (if such a menu item exists). This seems like a pretty counter-intuitive outcome on the front end.

I'll try making a menu item that's filtered by just the tag and put it higher than the menu item that's sorted by tag and category. Maybe that will make the tag link to the one that's just the tag?

Really, this wouldn't be a problem for me if the content module had the ability to filter by tag. The menu items that are filtered by tag and category aren't actually in the menu- I made them so that I could use the Component as Content plug-in to insert multiple different instances of content filtered by tag and category into a K2 item. I guess I'll go repost my request for that feature in the content module.

Lefteris Kavadas said:Hi. This is how it works and of course how it should works. If you have a menu link to a tag then all the links from this tag should go on the same page. This is very reasonable as you don't want to end up with two or more different pages displaying the same content. Also this is how all components for Joomla! work. So this cannot be accepted as a bug.

Place tags in own category lists

Category: English K2 Community

I'm happy you both understood what I was explaining. At the minute on my site I have 7 main categories and about 42 sub-categories assigned to the 7 top main content level categories. All these categories are not related and would not have anything in common really with each other, so obviously my Home - Gardening - DIY categories would not have anything familiar with the Computing - Internet categories, but the tag list show every tag for every category I have added which over time will build up and have a negative effect and members would be put off using the tags because of the irrelevant not associated tags on the list and means they would have to look through a long list to find the required tags which I feel will alienate some members from using the excellent tag feature. If your site only requires a few tags because your content does not involve a wide spectrum of subjects and different interests then the present tag feature is sufficient.

Hope this feature can be added to K2 to make it even better for those who require their site to provide a vast directory of unrelated subject matter and only have the tags shown for the categories in question.

Problem with the download link

Category: Simple Image Gallery PRO

I'm afraid that the download link is not compatible with K2, if you wish to download the latest version of K2 you will see that K2 disables that link.

You could use the SIG Pro as it is though, which means that you can put the {gallery} tags inside each article and after setting the parameters inside the plugin (you should probably move the galleries folders to the images/stories path), you could have a fully functional gallery.
